Was their any time last night when Cassisi's abscence was felt? Schulz? maybe the 1st quarter with him.

Yep first quarter for both

I note you mentioned the 2004 model Kane - if he was playing that role & that well there would absolutely be a spot for him - especially if we have a functioning attacking component to our midfield

Yes keep Craig please crowies... hes rebuilding ya know, lucky he don't build homes.... you would be 235 years old before you could move in !

Hahahaha..

Quote of the day!

On the game, it was sweet how we gave all their supporters hard ons in the first quarter and a half and just when they were about to blow we came out and and demoralised them.
That loss will hurt them mentally, I see no positives for them.
They have a shit coach, shit list and will finish down near the bottom again this year.
The media over here flatters them, whenever they pick a draft pick they are built up as a superstar. I don't get the hype on Dangerfield, he is so overrated and the rest of their young stars.... Geez, haven't they got ahead of themselves.. If Westhoff was on the Crows list, they would have him rated as high as Nick Riewoldt..

If we can improve our disposal we will improve and be very competitive this year but we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves as we were playing a very overrated team that finished down near the bottom last year and will be for many years ahead. We have beaten them the last few Showdowns, so matter what spin their supporters put on it, injuries or they finish higher on the ladder or their kids had an off night etc we are a better side and have showed it by continuosly beating them.

Boydman, I'm not going to suggest that he has fully earnt his spot, or that we should persevere with him at the expense of playing someone else (say Banner for instance), but O'Shea is a four game player, in his first year at a club to which he was drafted as a late pick-up. He has been surrounded by thorough incompetence in his first 13 quarters of AFL football and has come up against at least 2 barnestorming top 4 sides in that time frame.

etc

, rather than watch us recruit and get useless games into front runners.

good post, good points

I know!!

Wasn't it great

We turned around wahat seemed hopeless and lost, and created an inspirational win which hopefully we can build upon

normall we'd lose from so far ahead, but this time the coach and players showed something different and it worked!

I remember in 97 or 98? when we were 42 down agains Bulldogs and Francou and others lifted us to a win

I hope this is a turning point for us

Very happy to be very wrong

Noted in today's Sunday Mail that Oshea had about 15 disposals, 3 clangers and 60% efficiency... Paul Stewart had about 11 touches, 3 clangers and yet hasn't been mentioned.
* Also IIRC Boak traveled at around 65% efficiency in 2010.

... just sayin :p

My 1st time seeing Oshea play, so still making up my mind on him... yes he made errors and wasn't our best (although his set shot was calmly slotted after Ebert's "give-mes") and I think he should be replaced if someone better is available... but on last night's effort he was far from a dud.

Was great to be there last night to see the guys record their first win of the season. Took them a while to warm up, but when they did, it was a sight to behold with them running all over the top of the opposition. Doing so well against the Crows last night was great, but now we need to bring that consistently against other teams; not just save this sort of game play for Showdowns.

Efficiency
I guess if you kick it to your opponent its called a kick to target
Great stat isn't it, proves they mean nothing.
Anyone who had eyes saw there is no way on gods green earth it was even near that.

Boak @ 65% vs Oshea at cough 60%

reminds me of the film the castle, with their Rissoles.

His efficiency rate would be no worse than most kids of his age and experience.
I love his run and endurance and attitude in games and at training.
This kid will be a great player for us for many years and needs games now because he can handle them - it is only a matter of time before he bridges the gap in his error rate and awareness.

I guess the main issue with O'Shea has been his uncontested clangers....where he has been in the clear and kicked on the full or to an opponent under no pressure. The difference between that and say a Stewart or Boak and their efficiency rate is that theirs are usually contested clangers...quick kicks out of a pack etc.

Still, O'Shea was great after quarter time. One of the best in the second half.

It's never a good thing to generalise but i agree, they can all go **** themselves. I don't care how nice they want to pretend to be.

We had a group of about 20 of them plonk themselves down next to us and a more obnoxious, frontrunning group of plebs you will never see. When Adelaide were up and about they were poking us with flags, screaming in faces, trying to provoke shit, chanting "look at the scoreboard" 10 minutes into the second quarter. All well and good, but once they started getting hammered barely a murmur was heard from the spineless pricks. Then they resorted to cliche'd mocking of Port supporters, and then, when it was really being served up back at them, it was all "hey man, it's just football, it's not life and death".

Nah, **** 'em all. Hope they're really suffering.

i'm surprised those frontrunners didn't go home by the start of the 4th quarter... People like that are just w***ers. Act all provokative and instigate trouble but then when trouble comes to them they suddenly don't want any part of it and are trying to play it out as a misunderstanding.

But yeh that win was awesome. First quarter i was just thinking this game is like Geelong all over again and was getting frustrated as hell with the backwards kicking, turnovers, and lack of ability to clear the football out of half back. But then the 2nd quarter was just a power surge. Suddenly there was a come back starting off with that Motlop goal. At half time i thought it was going to be a dog fight coz last years Port would've got back into the game but then surrendered and died off. But this was different 3rd and 4th quarters were continuation of the 2nd and i couldn't keep the smile off my face. Seeing everyone play with confidence and offering shepherds to the ball runners was great. Game felt comfortable it was like everyone played with more poise and focus instead of just rushing themselves into bad decisions. But yeh it was defs 1 of the best games i've seen for years out of Port. Hopefully the boyz can start off next weeks game like they finished off this 1 and they'll beat the Suns by 100+ points. That was Port style football- hard and passionate.

Surj/Chaplin BOG

Butcher needs to come in v GC to give us a target up forward. Or we play Trengove up forward.

Westhoff isn't good enough in that role, the marks are nice but the rest is not so good. Keep him up forward.

are you high??

the hoff struggles sometimes because people make the mistake of thinking he is a forward, he cannot win one on ones!!

but if you unleash him to run around the ground and run and leap at anything he will gobble it up and kill the opposition!! watch every killer game ( for example vs wc late last year) he is running up into the midfield. he gives us a chance when we are kicking out of defense if we cant find a target the other teams ruckman always tries to sit a kick ahead and will take it or force us to hold it up but when hoff is on we dont worry and can go long knowing he will take it or it will spill. completely nullifies the opponents ruckman's trick of sitting a kick ahead of the play near the line when we are bringing it out.

the hoff got killed in the 2007 gf cause we played him deep in the 50 and scarlett killed him. as a free running hff providing a marking presence through the middle of the ground teams will worry about him... how can they nullify him? who has a player that can run with him at 198cms or close to that?? do you let him go and try to hurt with your free man?? if played outside the f50 he will be our trump card!! and we saw what happens when he gets his confidence up that no look snap over his shoulder was pure instinctual gold!!!

i agree about butch/ trengove up forward though.

Could not disagree with your opinions on Westhoff more. 7 or 8 times out of 10 he's useless in the midfield (the Showdown being an obvious exception), but 7 or 8 times out of 10 when played as a forward he has a good game. He doesn't need to win one on ones, because his leading and presenting is so good (only player in our team right now other than Gray who you can say that about).

 Ok, what was so w***erish about my post?

Wasn't referring to your post. I was referrign to b0ydman's editing out of everything in your post (which I thought was very good) that he didn't agree with and passing it off as your opinion.
