According to the current ladder, depending how Richmond, West Coast, Fremantle, Swans and Kangaroos, if all these clubs end up less than 4 wins, this is the draft order:

Priority Pick
Pick 1 Melbourne
Pick 2 West Coast

Round 1
Pick 3 Melbourne
Pick 4 Fremantle
Pick 5 Richmond
Pick 6 West Coast
Pick 7 Kangaroos
Pick 8 Swans
etc

Priority Pick
Pick 19 Fremantle
Pick 20 Richmond
Pick 21 Kangaroos
Pick 22 Swans

Round 2
Pick 23 Melbourne
Pick 24 Fremantle
Pick 25 Richmond
Pick 26 West Coast
Pick 27 Kangaroos
Pick 28 Swans
etc.

In this worse senario MFC gets Pick 1, 3, 23, 39, 55 and 71

Due to this worse senario, it is crucial that MFC gets 2 top 3 picks
(Pick 1 and 2 or 3) and Pick 23 rather than 1 top 3 pick (Pick 1 or 2 or 3) (if MFC wins more than 4 meaningless) because of the following reasons:

1) MFC won't get 3 top 20 picks if Fremantle, Richmond, Swans and Kangaroos win less than 4 games. If MFC want 3 top 20 picks, the club need to do somthing with Pick 23.

2) Butcher and Fitzpatrick will not last till Pick 23 if Pick 2 or 3 is used on another quality midfielder, assuming we all are happy with Scully at Pick 1.

3) As we all aware that GC and West Sydney gets all the draft picks in 2010 and 2011.

4) Pick 2 or 3 depends on WC. If WC win more than 4 matches and MFC win less than 4 matches, MFC will get Pick 1, 2, 22, 38, 54 and 70.

The above shows how crucial priority picks are for MFC's future sucess.

Pick 1 and 2 :thumbsu: :D

Don't remind me of meaningless wins. We had a couple against The Blues and Bulldogs...effectively costing us Naitanui. We could have had both Watts and Naitanui....except for the fact that we got sucked in by The Blues, who left Trapper Johnstone on his own all day so that he could get his 45 meaningless possessions. And remember Liberatore spilling the beans about Carlton's coaching tactics that day?..and remember Trappers reward for getting 45 touches in Round 22?..we traded him to The Lions.

Yep... I hope that we don't win more than 4...however I have a bad feeling that we will stuff up again.

Thanks AFL Number One,
This is where I am trying to explain why Pick 1 and 2 is crucial to the club's success. Also, it will be handy for people who have no idea how the draft order works if all priority picks are involved :)

you might want to change it to less than 5 wins not 4 because i think we will come home with 16pts.our next 4 next week..however sydney and north will win 5,6,7 easy richmond 5 maybe 6 west coast 4 or 5,freo 5 or 6.so its safe to say we get 1 and 2.fingers crossed.

the way the dees are playing theyll finish with 1 win cause we are shoutnhisen no good atm

Im just the average mug footy follower and even I can tell how crucial
an extra pick would be - god knows we need it..

But in reality, we have been playing great football - up until QB against
the pies, and as is usually the case with young sides, they find it hard
to keep up the consistancy - so Id expect a drop off in form, regardless
of whether fans want to win - or not.

We have introduced Watts and Jurrah in the past couple of weeks, both
are KPs - slight on frame and although they will show flashes of brilliance,
I wouldnt expect them to kicking bags of 5-6s..

Id also expect us to give some of our blokes down at Casey a run towards
the latter half of the year, in order to see whether they are worth keeping
or culling.

Our ruck stocks continue to look very thin and we dont even have a
permanent 'go to' man in the foward line, Millers in and out and Robbos
a side of his own, and if Bates 'go to' - then 1 win might be all we get
in 2009..

KTLK, your constant mentioning of draft picks and priority picks and how "crucial" they are to our success is getting very f....g annoying...let's start talking about the draft later in the year at around rounds 21 and 22 when we have some semblance of what is actually happening.

Lets assume if we finish last and win 4 games or under - we get the Priority Pick 1.
We also get number 2. (Our actual first pick)

My question is - dont we also get a Prority pick at the end of round 1???
Meaning like pick 19??

So I was under the impression we would get 1,2,19,22 (depending on how others finish)

Wish all these topics could be blended into one, because they're basically the same I think...

You get a PP between rounds 1 and 2 for finishing on less than 16.5 points, do that 2 years in a row and it's a pp before the 1st round, it does not double up.

Also, over these threads, merge them all please.

saw butcher kick a freak goal today at cranny over the head on the point post ala gary ablett snr style. scully/trengove scully/butcher what ever combo it is we cant lose. Also butch puts on some nice screens for his fellow forwards. Watts and butcher could be a nice duo.

WCE won tonight, meaning that we are very close to securing picks 1 & 2.
so who do we go for: the mid/forward or the mid/mid.
i was sold on butcher up until this week, now not so sure, but big forwards are hard to come by. butcher or trengove??????????????????

i think we should get the 2 best mids from the draft.
