A fitting result really. One team wanted to win.

During the week and on the podcast I stated my concern about how this game would play out and in the end my concerns were valid. Adelaide were always going to coe out firing and it was up to us to go with the. In the end we were too pedestrian when it mattered and once again it was a predictable comeback when the heat went out of the game only to fall dramatically short. End script.

The club has killed my enjoyment of come backs and close games over the last 2 years. How many times have we seen a comeback in the last 10 minutes only to lose by a kick since the start of 2014? 6 or 7? It's not good enough. Whilst everyone else is going rabid around me, screeching, screaming, jumping up and down, i'm sat there in silence knowing that we'll only fall a kick short. So damn predictable.

I wont criticise the effort. The effort was there. We tried hard. We went in hard. It was just the kicking, marking, running, gameplan, decision making, goal kicking, stoppage set ups, defensive set ups, lack of 2nd string midfielders and inability to be switched on for 100% of the quarter that cost us.

We just make stupid decisions with the ball, or we give it up too easily. We play very stagnant footy. Deliberately hug one side of the oval, ignroe free options in the corridor only to hoof it to a 4 on 4 contest and watch it go out of bounds. Rinse and repeat. So many times we get caught on a back flank and just look lost at what to do next. When the inevitable turnover happens, the opposition can move it quickly through the middle or on the fat side of the ground as all our players are caught hugging one side of the ground.

Our midfield is a major issue, and whilst Boak and Gray put in a seriously good shift, to watch the ball just fly away from the stoppage time and time again is disheartening. I really hope Jacobs sends Matty Lobbe an edible bloom or at least a thankyou card after his annual thanksgiving, where Lobbe stands there like a rod whilst Jacobs looks like a mix of Polly Farmer and Dean Cox. And obviously its not all Lobbe's problem, so many times they had players free at the stoppage who were able to run it out. Who was on Thompson in the first quarter? Who was on dangerfield in the second half? Why do we let the same players destroy us time and time again? What strategies do we have in place to stop the opposition killing us in the middle, or shutting down their key clearance winners?

In the end the result that the whole football world wanted occured. Crows won a close one to honour their lost leader. It will be a win they will cherish for many years. Its a pity we are too nice to spoil the party.

PLAYER REVIEWS

Boak - Our best 4 quarter performer on the day and as usual put the team on his back and almost got us over the line. Huge last quarter including a top goal from 50 and a number of key contested ball wins in the middle. Would have been the medal winner had we got over the line. Is irresistable when in that sort of form.

Wingard - Another strong effort by Mr consistent. 3 goals, a couple of assists, was all over the place up forward and Adelaide had no real answer in containing him. They tried Brown, Laird for a while, Smith for a while but Chad kept getting in front and winning the football. Skills were great and was good further up the ground.

Hartlett - I thought that was another great performance by Hammer. Was excellent across half back in the first half and pushed through the middle well in the second half. The last two weeks have been close to his best games for the year so its good he's coming into some great consistent form. Used it better than he has almost all year.

Gray - Was great in the middle and dangerous up forward all day. The one midfielder we had all day that was able to get some clean clearances at the stoppages and get it forward effectively. Dished off a number of goals as well. Went head to head with Douglas who also had a good game.

Ebert - It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. A very bipolar performance. His efforts in dropping back and taking some strong courageous grabs was excellent. His efforts in kicking were a calamity. All up it was an ok performance. He needs work, he needs help, he needs a big lift in confidence.

Monfries - Worked hard but didnt really have as big an influence in the game as he did last week. Needed to slot one of those goals in the last quarter. Had the chance to be a hero again but couldnt do it.

Ryder - Great game by Paddy. Reasonable in the ruck and ever dangerous up forward. Took some nice grabs and kicked 3 important goals. Needed to slot that one in the last though. Outside of the Hawks game, it was probably his best game of the year.

Lobbe - I'd much rather he give Jacobs an expensive Christmas present as opposed to him allowing Jacobs to walk over us every year. But hey, he actually took 2 decent marks this week - one as the 'get out of jail' option in defence and the other up fowrard which led to his 2nd goal. Outside of that, pants.

Broadbent - Hello Jay Nash. Broady is a good short kick - quick, direct, low, hits targets. He's a very long kick. But anything over 30m is an absolute crap shoot. To be honest, i'm sick of him just hoofing the ball as hard as he can whilst our forwards are on the lead and we all watch it sail 20m over their heads. Happens far too often now. Its a liability.

Westhoff - Could only get a kick behind the play, again. Smashed by Kyle Hartigan and Ricky Henderson. Well done Justin.

Wines - Thought it was one of his worst games of the year. Won some clearances but was unable to get any clean disposal away and didnt really offer anything on the outside. Struggled.

Hombsch - Given the run around by Walker in the first half. Tightened up but Walker had already done plenty of damage. Liked some of his rebounding work and didnt take a backward step.

O'Shea - Only thing I remember him doing is falling over and dropping the ball when we had a 3 on 1 which cost us a goal. The worst thing I saw today.

Impey - He may have a great side step and can kick a nice goal, but his field kicking is a liability. One step forward, two steps back with him at the moment. Poor defensive work on Laird.

Stewart - Some nice disposal but overall had no impact on the result

Schulz - 3 nice goals, was good to see him get a few goals again, but was reasonably well held.

Krakouer - Did a great job on Betts. Was right on his hammer all day and provided great rebound and disposal from the backline as we expect.

Clurey - Lynch was too quick and too fit for him. Couldn't keep up.

Neade - Looked like the lost player that he was in the first two rounds.

Young - Gave the impact as sub that we were looking for, similar to how he performed in similar roles last year. Was his best game for a while.

Trengove - Jenkins gave him the run around in the first half before tightening up and playing closer to him in the second.

AhChee - Disappointing. Got his shot and didnt take it. Looked lost on a flank and couldnt do anything in the midfield.

A win would have simply been more cracks covered in winning wallpaper. Ball use and fumbles needs to be addressed rigorously from now until season 2016. Forward structure and entries are totally coaching dependant. Over to you, Ken.

No disrespect as i know you are a long time poster but I can't agree with that. We wanted to win, could have won but stuffed it up. I'm devastated by this game. Feels the same as losing to Hawks in prelim last year.

this week will be 10 hours of kicking practice, seriously our kicking has gone downhill bigtime this year, im not talking about the hard kicks im talking about blokes on the lead with all the space in the world in front of them and it either ends up on their heads or over it, or guys 20m in the clear where is doesn't reach the target. Sloppy sloppy sloppy

Who was the work experience umpire? No 11 looked like he was 15 yrs old and umpired accordingly.

Missed the last quarter coz I was on my way home from some shit.

Kinda glad I did coz I'd accepted the inevitable loss at three quarter-time.

So when I checked the final score, I just shook my head and laughed.

Those crazy ass mofos punk'd us again...

Meh. Couldn't really care less. The season has been a long road to nowhere and that has been obvious for a long time. I've just been watching the footy with very little expectations other than effort. We've had that for the most part, skills a long way off.

I've been relatively hollow all season really. It was clear we werent going to contest for the premiership. Some people get so lost in emotion that they make some genuinely deplorable comments. It's a game.

I said it way earlier in the thread, forward entries killed us, coughed it up plenty and missed plenty of goals, they kicked really well. We didn't deserve to be within three points at the end, so credit to the team. The fact is personally i think we have altered our game plan which is a good thing, we are looking to play more possession football coming out of defence, then run.... but we will managed to cough it up plenty to a waiting Adelaide defender. We need to sharpen up on skills over the summer, make no mistake the season is well and truly over. I hope it burns in their guts. We need to remove passengers and become ruthless at selection table. I can see the light, Ryder is a big part of our next premiership, those of you who think if we won today we'd be on our way to finals are kidding yourself, we don't deserve it and would of served up some shitty game to St Klida and lost (that's just been 2015).

In 2016 we need to eradicate the turnovers, we actually go our out of our way to lose games, sometimes it's just dead set pathetic. Shultz is done, start playing the kids, there is nothing to lose anymore, sorry fellas, a few more rounds to go yet, so suck it up and look in the mirror, nobody to blame but yourselves.

Just watching Dangerfield and Thompson shrug tackles and waltz out of the middle and stoppages for most of the day was nauseating but hey we still had our teasing little patches where our mid's GaveAF but too little & too late in the end.

Thought Young showed up a few of his more celebrated hard ball winning teammates when he came on & that's a worry

Yep, we consented to allowing the media and the AFC to write the narrative for this game, for sentimental reasons. Utterly shit effort on every level of the PAFC. Will be a milestone match one way or the other.

Nah. Saying we could have won if we just hadn't played below par for most of the game is delusional thinking.

Our incompetence for three quarters hid our "want" to win very convincingly. Can't say that about us in last year's prelim.

It was a fair enough result today given what both sides offered up. I'm grateful we finally switched on a little in the last and eventually made it a down-to-the-wire contest worthy of Phil's memory.

Playing a good last quarter rarely makes up for playing three dumb ones before it, and our players have a bloody long time that to reflect on that now.

Disappointing, but not surprising.

Three quarters of absolute trash, with some excellent patches interspersed throughout.

Too many clumsy contests in which we gave away free kicks, too many stupid unforced attempts to play on, and too many simple targets missed.

A few fantastic individual performances across the team, but also too many spectators.

Can't be angry at the result, we didn't particularly deserve to win, and our season was probably already over.

Onto 2016, with improved kicking, tackling, gameplan and forward structure.

My heart wasn't even beating faster in the last minute. That's not a good thing.

Not sure where the team and coach are at

That's all I took out of the game.

Play new players.

Screw being Politically correct. This game was lost, when instead of drawing the line under our highly fitting tribute to Phil Walsh, by taking everything that makes our home game our home game and neutering it.

Is anyone surprised that then instead of Adelaides players suffering nerves in a cauldron of hostility they come out firing after the group sing-a-long? Well **** off, we'd done everything we needed to already. I hope that arm around Chapmans shoulder at the end Koch was worth pissing our last chance of saving our season down the drain.

Get fraked with being Mr. nice club, that isn't how we were in the SANFL or earned the right to play in the AFL. #everyonessecondclubisforlosers

****ing lol

Felt more like falling over against Carlton to me, crows are very average port were piss weak again

As exciting as 2013 and 2014 were this year has been the antithesis. It has been painful and now we are done and can get on with fixing the problems for next season. Because we have been unbearable to watch this year.

Short memory?? 2011 & 2012 were the definition of "unbearable".

This year is merely "incredibly bloody disappointing" by comparison.
