Less than 20% of the time, it works every time!

Who were the other teams that lost Round 1?
Agree but knight comes in as he is ready and best 18Lose Round 1 in a game that could've gone either way and we want to make 5 changes? Sheesh. Talk about panic stations. Calm the farm.
I remember at three quarter time he had 3 or 4 touches to his nameOMG... we're St Kilda

I must have been watching another game as cheney appeared to be on Waite most of the time... & allowed him to get most of his goals & possessions.Cheney was barely on Waite mate - maybe for 1/3 of the game (and Waite kicked 1 maximum on him). Rewatch the game. The defenders rotated throughout.
Only 3 of those marks were I50 and of those 3 only 1 resulted in a goal.Your opponent having 20 possessions, 8 contested, 7 marks & 3 goals does not mean you had an excellent game.
It means the opposition identified you as the weak link & played through you.
Waite was damaging for the roos.
So long as milera picks up their weaker forward like neade & not guns like wingard & Gray. We have Brown & Laird for them... Yet we didn't use them to lock down Harvey!I've been trying to think of the best way to restructure to get bad players out of the side and talented players in despite us having more forwards than defenders.
VB must go, so who plays in defence?
Hampton unavailable, Henderson I rate a very good wingman but a poor defender, Wigg too small.
There's 3 realistic options imo…
1) Seedsman to defence
2) A midfielder recast back into defence (CEY would be the best option)
Both good options but here's the best one (and it wasn't my original idea but when i heard it the penny dropped)
3) MILERA to defence. Has the size, tenacity, skill, decision making, run…he has it all!! The comparisons to McLeod have been made previously. He isn't ready for full time midfield (in time he will be an AA mid) and he's wasted getting low possession numbers forward when we have other good options in that half of the ground. Seriously, when I think of Milera running off the half back line I imagine serious damage to the opposition inflicted from the scoring chain created
Leaving the Hartigan debate aside for a moment the obvious 2 changes then become:
OUT: VB, Mackay
IN: Knight, Cameron
I have no issue Cheney playing as a medium defender, but why does he always has goals kicked in him when he plays on tall forwards?Only 3 of those marks were I50 and of those 3 only 1 resulted in a goal.
Waite roamed far and wide and the defence switched and rotated numerous times. One of his goals was from a 50m penalty, his contested mark and goal saw 4 AFC players standing and watching.
The issue here is the Cheney has become a convenient whipping boy with almost zero basis in fact.
If you are wanting to be serious about you're analysis, and I know you do, then you need to look at Talia's poor 1/1 work, Lever's lack of discipline and a pretty ordinary performance from both Laird and Brown (Harvey?)
The problem is that all 4 of those guys are BF luvvies and no one wants to call it
Medical report should be in our favour as Waite kept playing a decent game.Watched the replay from the Bounce, Crouch's hip it's Waites shoulder but his elbow hits his head. That's a worry. But it was pretty soft.
Yep. He's gawn.Pav in trouble based on that schematic.

How many times last year did Hartigan allow his opponent to have 3 goals, 20 possessions & 7 marks?
If you don't think Waite was one of their most influential players, then I suggest you watch the replay.
I reiterate I'm ok playing Cheney, just not on tall forwards as he is just about always dominated.
Ps. Also, would like to know how we let Harvey off the leash too.
Happily concede how influential Waite was, but I'm not conceding it all lies at the feet of Cheney.I have no issue Cheney playing as a medium defender, but why is he always has goals kicked in him when he plays on tall forwards?

Can anyone really hold him for all of the game? 5 minutes is all he neededPs. Also, would like to know how we let Harvey off the leash too.
Because petrie took Talia out of the play, so they could play through our weakest link!!He was outmarked far less than Talia was.

Would have thought Laird would have been instructed to stay with him, but honestly not sure who was picking him up at times...Can anyone really hold him for all of the game? 5 minutes is all he needed
What? Petrie had 3 marks & 6 possessions! He was outmarked far less than Talia was.
Brown the first, the second he seemed to have no one near him and Laird the third. Both Brown and Laird were caught ball watching.Would have thought Laird would have been instructed to stay with him, but honestly not sure who was picking him up at times...
Bloody sensible post!Agree.
We're all (well most of us) are banging our head against the wall. The clear solution is VB out, Hartigan in. Harto picks up a tall and Cheney picks up the resting mid. Brown and laird lock down on the specialist small forwards with laird on the lesser small forward so he can rebound.
Harto and Talia lock down the talls and lever on the lesser tall to provide rebound too. You have three pure lock down guys (Talia, Harto, brown), Cheney locks down a resting mid otherwise floats with laird and lever being the rebounding defenders. This assumes they are all in defence at the same time which isn't often the case.
I do like the idea of Milera going back. He is a good size, tackles well, chases hard and has great disposal and decision making. He would be an immediate upgrade on VB.
If we are inclined to make only one change then VB out for knight and swing Milera back. Although I also think we need a second change to bring Hartigan in. Whether that is Cheney out or Mackay doesn't bother me.
I'd keep McGovern in. Has good pace and seems to be picking up the pace of afl now. Reckon he could start to have some really good games soon.
What? Petrie had 3 marks & 6 possessions!
Talia didn't have his best game, but was dragged out of the play.
Kane that's such a lazy and superficial analysis which belongs in 1970 football.Because petrie took Talia out of the play, so they could play through our weakest link!!
