Because he at least tried. that was my point. the fact Burgess lack of ability had been brought to the fore and highlighted was because he was the only one providing genuine options for our team to kick too.

All I said was he played with heart. Last time I checked it doesnt make him a star.
RT Rankine and Pedlar didn’t try?

Murphy plays with heart. No head … all heart and two left feet and hands, trier though… good for shape

That was a terrible performance and exactly what we didn’t want. We needed to get on too early, put the game to bed and then rest up key players.
Instead we relied on our best players to scrap every minute of the game and now back up by playing Collingwood who have a 3 day extra break. Awful from us.

So many tried to coast around.
Hinge is rubbish. Laird was shit - so many panic kicks to spots a guy with his experience shouldn’t be doing. Milera has had a great 6 weeks but was back to awful today. Berry is doing a whole lot of nothing at the moment. I think he’s supposed to be nullifying his opponent, but he doesn’t do that or get the ball.

I hope it’s the kick in the pants we needed to remind us that we aren’t THAT good yet.

I think that was exactly what we needed.
A very down week between the bye and finals was a statistical absolute. Couldnt have timed it better than playing the worst team on the worst road trip whilst also resting our aging spiritual leader.
Any other week and we're back in the pack.

Add to all that, we've come out and played some solid response games this year. A rocket just prior to the Pies is probably just what the doc ordered.

We used to ambush teams that didn't rock up in our crap years just a few seasons ago.

Our players (many of which were in the team back then) should be well aware of that risk
It's not a lack of awareness

It's a natural human reaction. You aren't going to be at the same intensity playing the 18th ranked team away with a finals spot already in the bank than in a full house do-or-die clash with the high flying Hawks

Can talk complacency or danger game all you want but they're just words.

Apologies to Shuestar13 . My outburst in the Game Day thread was unwarranted, unfair and mean-spirited.

No, please it’s ok, absolutely no offence taken. I didn’t mean my comment to come across as condescending, was more trying to be a bit light hearted. I can see how it read. The comment was more made knowing my team and what we are (and aren’t) capable of. There’s a reason there has only been one top vs bottom upset in ~20 years. The gap in quality between the two sides meant it was going to turn, but it sure took a bit longer than expected.

As the Gameday thread title implored - you did just get it done, albeit with a bit more of a challenge 😛

A few interesting questions now for next week. One win secures top two. If there are some that are really (really) sore, do you manage a few even against Collingwood knowing that you just need to win the last round. Or go all out. I wonder if today will make the selectors a bit gunshy and you just push on and try and it get it done next week.

sorry must have missed it while he let players run around him. if you want to rate rankines game. go ahead. easily pleased.
What are you talking about? Rankine was best on ground, give or take maybe Dawson. I think he’ll likely get 8-10 coaches votes.

In the second half he had 20 disposals, 8 inside 50s, 5 score involvements, 517 metres gained and a brilliant solo goal. First half was quiet but he absolutely turned the game when he went into the midfield.

Dawson by a mile, Rankine getting in the best players with that effort is a terrible look for the rest of the team.

Not sure about the heart thing. Seemed to disappear when game on line a lot.
The cream rises to the top on those occasions

And the sludge settles on the bottom
