There are certain things that the AFL mandates - such as all "marquee" games being available on FTA TV. Beyond that, there is zero evidence to suggest that they care one way or another which broadcaster covers which game(s).

There is certainly no evidence whatsoever to suggest that they have prevented Ch7 from broadcasting Saturday games since R9. Ch7 have made a commercial decision not to show these games, preferring the ratings sugar hit of showing Thursday night games instead. The fact that they're NOT showing the Thursday game next week is incontrovertible evidence that they had this option all along (from R9 onwards), and it was always their choice.
It's more the internal negotiations between Ch7 and Foxtel's new owners .....obviously a staged process to have the majority of games on subscription TV

The future rights won't be increased, if Ch7 is the major party in negotiations ....in fact they'll be the minor party

It’s a Saturday game - 7 literally don’t have the rights. It’s a huge issue for a number of reasons but it wasn’t a broadcasting decision they made this week
There is nothing in the broadcast agreement which precluded Ch7 from showing the Adelaide/Collingwood game last night. Foxtel only had exclusive rights to Saturday games from R1-8, excluding marquee games. Since then, it has been Ch7's choice, and they have chosen to show the Thursday night games instead of showing a Saturday game.

Not true. They can only show a limited amount per week, the day is not stipulated. They chose to show the Essendon v St Kilda game instead.

In Laws of Australian Football 2025, Law 18.13 states:

This is defined in Section 1.1 (Definitions and Interpretation) as:

Note that Time Wasting is also a reportable offence, though Thilthorpe's actions did not rise to that level.
If the definition of time-wasting depends on the umpire’s opinion, and he didn’t grant it, then it wasn’t timewasting.

And time off is automatic when the boundary umpire signals out of bounds. Hard to waste time when it doesn’t exist 👀

It did give us a chance to reset but exactly 9 seconds later they got a free about 30m up the ground for HTB against Keane, so effectively it was the same result.

Much whinging about nothing but poor ole Collingwood.

Now another they do is apply tackle but then let go and plead to the umpires for HTB - well of you let the tackle go, how can it possibly be HTB?
Because they grab you again. They are showing that the player could dispose of it.

So Smith gets cited but Darcy avoids any sanction for puncturing a lung - tell me it makes sense.

It doesn't.

Michael Christian is not fit to be in any official position.

Smith fined for the ‘hit’ on Daicos.

Rankine fined for staging.

You are a petty, pathetic man Michael Christian.
For real or you making this up?

How about Dalcos 1st hit on Smith?

FFS - Collingwood prick!

Did Daicos get a fine for hitting Smith 1st?

Crows need to challenge & show footage of Daicos hitting Smith 1st & ask wtf!

Collingwood had 71 inside 50s last night. Josh Daicos had ONE of the 71 inside 50s, his lowest for the year. Last week Hawthorn kept Jaicos pretty quiet but he still had 14 uncontested possessions and 5 inside 50s.
That is a significant difference.
If Murphy was the reason behind that, great :thumbsupv1: .
Prior to last night Josh Daicos averaged 19 uncontested possessions a game, last night he had 8.
Again, if Murphy was the reason behind that, great :thumbsupv1:.

I think you misunderstand my motives.
I am not out for point-scoring or disagreeing to be right. I enjoy the discussion.
In fact, I'd like to see what you and davos44 have seen that make Murphy a good selection.

I liked Murphy early on; he struck me as an honest trier and a tough little nugget. I want Murphy to be a valuable and impactful part of the team, in spite of what we've seen in his previous 4 games in 2025 (very little), his last-quarter fades in 2 of them and his general, below-AFL level mediocrity.
I'd love to see Murphy seize his opportunities at AFL level and show steady improvement.
It's 120 games later and he has not.

I had a good look at his career stats. It looks like his best years were actually 2018 and 2019 when he averaged a goal/game.
Under Nicks, he's kicked 44 goals in 87 games (!) and his K/HB ratio is roughly steady @ 6/5 per game.
Also 2M, 3T and less than 1 x 1%er/game. He has not improved, even after 120 AFL games.
Do you think Collingwood decided last night, just for shit and giggles, let’s starve Joshie of the ball.
Please, save the sarcasm for someone else who gives you shit, fair enough?

When I returned from the game and started reading this thread I couldn’t believe the number of posters gleefully pouring shit on Murphy. Not celebrating a great victory but more importantly declaring “I was right, Murphy is shit”. It’s almost like it was the most enjoyable thing to come out of the game.
I didn't pour shit on Murphy, gleefully or otherwise. I thought he had a bad game, but I was and still am really happy about the win and the way we ground it out.
When you and davos44 posted that he was serviceable, I wanted to see/understand why and I've asked for examples. davos44 cited one example:
"That contest against Naicos at their CHF was pretty good".
I'd guess every player had at least one contest that was "pretty good", so I am not convinced.
Did Murphy play a great game - No
I agree. I think also Nicks could have selected better but I have zero influence therein, so meh.
Did Murphy do his job - Absolutely.
I'll watch the replay later tonight or tomorrow and have another look.

And time off is automatic when the boundary umpire signals out of bounds. Hard to waste time when it doesn’t exist 👀
It was mentioned earlier. "Time wasting" can also mean delaying the game so that your team can set up defensively or whatever.

If you mark a ball that's out on the full you still have to give it back within a reasonable time. The game clock has stopped, but you are still wasting real time to allow your team to set up, for example.

Either way, it wasn't paid, and at the end of the day it's up to the umpire's interpretation what they saw or didn't see.

He literally gets a shoulder in the face?

Who Rankine? No it was a forearm to the neck and he sold it like a dodgy real estate agent - I did think it was a free but the one moments later that ? Murphy didnt get was even worse

2 high frees not paid - I even commented in the match thread at the time

Do I think Rankine should get a staging charge? Not really
