It's more the internal negotiations between Ch7 and Foxtel's new owners .....obviously a staged process to have the majority of games on subscription TVThere are certain things that the AFL mandates - such as all "marquee" games being available on FTA TV. Beyond that, there is zero evidence to suggest that they care one way or another which broadcaster covers which game(s).
There is certainly no evidence whatsoever to suggest that they have prevented Ch7 from broadcasting Saturday games since R9. Ch7 have made a commercial decision not to show these games, preferring the ratings sugar hit of showing Thursday night games instead. The fact that they're NOT showing the Thursday game next week is incontrovertible evidence that they had this option all along (from R9 onwards), and it was always their choice.
The future rights won't be increased, if Ch7 is the major party in negotiations ....in fact they'll be the minor party
