All 3 recruits have contributed and made our side better. Peatling seems to be involved in many assists and has real pace.
Helped make our midfield more balanced & deeper.

Cumming will get better after interrupted preseason.

ANB does so much hard work that goes unnoticed.

Should be looking to be smart about managing Tex for around 4 games, particularly when we have shorter breaks.

Against weaker opponents like West Coast would be preferable where possible.

Don’t forget Tex can only miss a couple of games and get to 300 if we don’t make finals. He’ll bank as many as he can whilst fresh from a preseason.

We have = 3rd goal kickers Thilthorpe & Fogarty (9)
Keays 7
Walker & missing Rachele 6

Sun have King on 10 goals, who has highest average with 5 goals per game. We just can't use Keane or it will get messy.

Next Miller & Long on 5 goals each.

I wonder how we'll view Rachele's injury?

Might be the bonus opportunity Pedlar needs for instance
I’d play Draper forward with the odd change with Peatling forward / mid

Draper 70/30 Fwd/Mid
Peatling 70/30 Mid/Fwd

Pedlar sub

Nank for milera but I fear milera is somehow locked in hence Nank playing sanfl wing

Be nice to see butts come in for borlase and Keane go back to more an intercept role

Not sure any of these things happen other than the Draper forward one

It's the first actual challenge of the year, with an under strength forward line as is. I wouldn't be resting the only tall forward capable of independent thought.

Given the short turnaround, we do need to manage players. Need to play the long game & develop an expanded squad as we will need it.

Walker should be rested from long travels & need him fresh for Cats.
Allows us to manage Curtin as 3rd tall forward.
Jones comes in as 3rd wingman.
Nankervis just has to come in for Milera.
We need Butts height & lockdown as Keane can't be main lockdown defender.
Draper gets his 1st start with Rachele injury.
Taylor as sub as think we need to inject another midfielder.

In: Butts, Nankervis, Jones, Taylor
Out: Borlase, Milera, Walker, Rachele

B: Laird, Butts, Keane
HB: Michaelanny, Worrell, Hinge
C: Jones, Dawson, Cumming
HF: ANB, Fogarty, Keays
F: Curtin, Thilthorpe, Rankine
R: O'Brien, Soligo, Peatling
I: Nankervis, Crouch, Sholl, Draper
Sub: Taylor
Put a fork in Jones

Why wouldn’t Butts come in for Keane if he only missed because he was underdone?

Cumming to half back, Nank to the wing, Milera sub. Draper forward and mid.

My changes would be :
OUT
Rash, Milera, Borlase

IN
Bond, Nank, Butts

Bond to be hard tag on Rowell. Borlase was ok but we need a bigger body for their forwards.

Scholl for Sub . Draper to start

Bond. Hugh Bond.
Like the thinking. We need to be expanding our squad's exposure, not narrowing it.

We aren't the finished product.

Tex needs to be rested and used sparingly, we to have the option of a fit and healthy Tex come finals. He needs to ignore the 300 game mark - it's not the team's problem. Maybe this week isn't the right time to rest him, not certain on that - but it should be on the table EVERY week.

Want to see us bring in untried players in games where it matters - put them under the spotlight and see what happens. It might cost us a game here and there, but the long term benefits outweigh the negatives imo.

Let's see Curtin / Fog / Thilthorpe work as the three bigs up forward.

Let's see how the mids cope with Rankine spending time up forward with Rash out, do we bring in someone like Taylor to fill that gap. Draper gets more midfield time?

Let's see how Bond goes in full tag mode. Would like to see how Peatling does that type of job too, and ANB / Keays for that matter.

Let's see how Butts slots back into the back-6, he has never been anything but a very solid defender - I can't remember him having an awful game back there?

We have seen how Nank handles AFL, he should be in the 22 ... I suppose we need to see how Milera handles being dropped to the SANFL.

I want Dawson to be the ultimate swingman - middle / back / forward - wherever he is most damaging in-game. He's a nightmare matchup.

That's before we get to players like Ryan and Edwards - who deserve to be in the discussion until they prove otherwise.

I do not want us to sit on the same 23/24/25 players for the first half of the year.

Why wouldn’t Butts come in for Keane if he only missed because he was underdone?

Cumming to half back, Nank to the wing, Milera sub. Draper forward and mid.
He might still be underdone , they’ve got a lot of data re coming back from lisfranc foot injury after Chayce struggling with it and Taylor having one as well

Moving cumming would be interesting , that could work out ok , not sure be in a rush to change side too much though ie ain’t broke don’t fix it

With the depth we now have, how on earth is Chayce Jones part of the conversation?

Also our first real test for the year, match of the round, don't think we should be resting anyone, even Tex.
