I'd rest Tex this week and play Curtin in his role. Draper moves to Rachele's role, Nank into the side, Berry (would prefer Bond, as he was very good last year) to sub, although I think Nick's will be definitely considering Murphy - although I believe Murphy is doing more midfield minutes now, and that may sway selectors to look at others.

So basically Cromulant was talking out of his ass when saying Butts didnt perform in the SANFL.

FR0GGY you watch the SANFL game?
No, I read a few different posts on here. I think bigmans might have been one.

If you are after selection integrity then Nankervis is next in line and his position is currently held by Milera

The coaching group has 2 choices

Keep Milera and hope he steps up again

Replace Milera with Nankervis - selection integrity

I know which one I would do and I know which one the coaches will do

On Tex I think the '' we will rest him from long flights '' will go out the window
It's abundantly clear that, rightly or wrongly, the coaches rate Milera as having more talent than Nankervis.

We've previously castigated them for picking Himmelberg ahead of Thilthorpe, when they did so on the basis of form. We can't have our cake and eat it too. Criticising them for selecting the more talented player, despite the lesser player having stronger current form, is hypocrisy writ large.

Maybe Draper & Izak share mid / forward roles, rest Tex (I agree it isn't just the travel that is the issue). Bring in Nank and possibly Dowling as a lock down.

Nank is more talented than Milera

Scully 10 disposals at 50% disposal efficiency, most of those in non threatening positions and 1 joe the goose goal that Jacob Weitering couldn't have stopped.

Butts 14 disposals at 86% disposal efficiency.

Nowhere did I claim Butts starred but he was certainly not beaten by the 203cm Scully on the day as was claimed..

Not sure why you bother quoting me just to say the same thing I did

And we were wrong??

Who is who in this scenario

Ahh you answered above

That you come to that conclusion informs everyone of your lack of football ideas

Well current form should be the criteria and really there is no comparison in that regard re Nankervis vs Milera right through the pre-season trials and games Nank has been the superior player, franked by an outstanding B.O.G. in the SANFL on the weekend. We are basically carrying Milera in the hope he regains something like his best can be the only reason surely?

3 AFL games averaging 13.3 disposals, 0.7 inside 50's, 3 rebound 50's, 227 metres gained....he needs to lift big time.

Resting Tex for a long flight with a 5 day break to come does make good sense to me. You want him primed for the Cats.

They have lost Charlie Ballard for the season too.

I get why this is being suggested but I don't like it. Gold Coast are a major challenger this year and we shouldn't be picking and choosing games. I think it sends a poor message to the group that should of been removed over summer.

Sure it's a long flight but he is professional AFL footballer. He is also not Tom Hawkins and we are not Geelong.

If the other argument is forward structure which I think has merit, why do so many people lose their minds over Kane Cornes / Jono Brown comments.

Fair.

Bigman said this about Butts.

Butts - actually thought Scully got the better of him at times (not sure why Port ditched him after only two years) and made a couple of blues by hand. Not awful but can see why Borlase was preferred.

So we now have a narrative on BF that Butts was terrible in the SANFL.

bigman - you have become too powerful.

I'm not sure I agree with that, and I know for damn certain that the coaches don't agree.
Milera gets a good run on here from some. Not sure what Milera did to deserve a spot ahead of Nank in the first place but he hasnt backed that decision up in his 3 games this year, Nank has to come in for him.

Rachele out is a big loss, he looked sublime early yesterday with a couple of his field kicks, I would be disappointed if Murphy came in, I would be inclined to play Draper there.

Maybe Berry could play as a sub and bring some extra grunt against a tough midfield

In: Nankervis, Murray/Butts, Murphy
Out: Rachele, Tex and Borlase.

Draper is in for Rachele and I'm envisioning a similar usage to what he did against the Roos where it is entirely at small forward. GC has been strong off the half back line and Draper put in a big defensive performance against the Roos + is super quick which fills me with confidence he can do a hatchet job here. He's got his window of best 22 gametime.

Tex is out for a rest, which means Curtin slides to a third tall. I wouldn't be too fussed to give Turray a debut here but would prefer an extra runner in Nank.

There is absolutely no point in playing Borlase if Keane has to be our main shutdown KPD. Murray if fit, Butts if not.

Murphy wins the lottery to be the sub this week. If we debut Turray, Nank can be sub.

Current form was the argument when they selected Himmelberg ahead of Thilthorpe. BF smashed them over it.

Now you're suggesting that they should pick current form over talent when it comes to Nank vs Milera?

This is the point I'm making. BF picks & chooses when players should be picked on form or talent, with zero consistency, as it's based entirely on who happens to be the board's favourite at that particular point in time.

Milera was quiet this week, but he was good vs Essendon. Players should not be dropped after 1 bad game (and Milera wasn't even bad against Norf - quiet yes, bad no).

I beg to differ. It sends the message to our players that we care about player welfare.

We're not Geelong, but Tex's situation is VERY similar to Hawkins' - in that he needs to be managed to ensure his aging body can get through the full season.

Check out the BFF GC equivalent thread.
Some are drinking their own bath water….
The expectedly thrash WC and beat Melbourne by 10 goals.
North beat Melbourne by 10 goals.
Melbourne circa 2025 are poor.
We beat North by 6 goals.
So....
