Walker will miss one of GCS or Geelong games. Just a matter of which one we think is more important to our season, and how he's feeling after 3 matches. I don't know the answer to which is the more important match, as the way things stand they are both ranked somewhere between 3rd and 6th in the comp in my mind. Tough weather in Queensland but if he plays that he gets two weeks off before another big match up against GWS - also a huge game for us. Big three matches ahead.

Does he really need to miss though? Subbed out in the first game half way through the third, bit bruise free against Essendon.

Is it a bit early to be resting him?
I think the mindset would be to have some water before you get thirsty

Probably not, but we're also dealing with a 34 year old with a lot of mileage in the body, so better safe than sorry.

Can we look at replacing Sholl or even putting him to sub, painfully weak over the weekend.

Pedlar and Nank in, Nank into Sholl's position and Pedlar to Rachelle
I wonder if Sholl pushed himself too hard to get back quickly from his knee?

Knowing that possession (of playing position) is 9/10ths the law. The Round 1 spot is critical because we either aren't changing a winning team or are giving the team a chance to respond for the rest of the season

I think it will be a real test for Nicks to see whether he has the ticker to make unforced changes to a winning side with good momentum. Easy enough to just 'back the boys in' but any or all of Milera, Sholl or Keane have not had a great three weeks and we have very solid replacements ready and waiting. I reckon it would send a clear (and good) message to the squad about form over favourites...we'll see what he does.

I dont think we have a solid replacement for Keane with Muzz injured and coming up against the Suns. Keane would have to be safe.

Nah, this isn't. You have a team who is winning comfortably, and your outside game is firing on all cylinders. There is absolutely no reason to drop anyone. Especially in a week with 2 guaranteed changes.

If Adelaide were playing poorly, and scraping wins I'd agree, as that is where you need a bit of ticker to ignore the win column. That is not our form line.

Another fitness test for us. Six day break and 27 degrees predicted on Saturday

From memory there's no negative statistical reduction with singular 5 or 6 day breaks. It does drop markedly when there's a second in a row though. I recall this from 5-10 years ago though, so may have changed.

I disagree. Part of the game here is to make as little changes as possible, seeing we've put up 3 100+ scores, which means our outside game is working. The only reason we should be changing anything with our outside players right now is due to injury.

We need to give Draper game time, and we just saw that he capable of a hatchet role. To add to this point, after the Gold Coast game, we're about to run into two of the best teams in the league at scoring from the defensive half. Effectively this is a way to replace Rachele with elite leg speed for a few weeks and reinforce our ability to shut down ball movement from the backline (+ whatever offensive output we get is a bonus, as it's not like we're struggling in this aspect).

Gets him a run, and by the time Rachele is back, someone else has likely dropped from an injury.
I can get behind this line of thinking though it asks a lot of a first year player. If you want minimal change tactically like the first part of your post suggests, I think we're getting it a lot more swapping Rachele for Taylor.

My money is on him playing both. Had these 2 games been a few more rounds in then much more chance of a rest. But he'll only be resting a couple of times throughout the year, I doubt one of them is before round 8-9.

I know it's a bit harsh dropping Sholl from one poor game but humid conditions against a quick, strong side that thrives off turnovers are several variables we've seen him consistently struggle with. It's an avenue to fitting Draper in, whether predominantly midfield (Dawson/Soligo spend more time on the wing), or forward (Curtin spends more time on the wing)

I'm not sure there'll be much appetite to reduce overall running capacity in those conditions. I think Draper comes in anyway and plays forward with mid stints. Milera should be dropped, but they won't, Nicks has already said he's an AFL player, so if fit, he plays. I reckon sub likelihood of selection order is Dowling, Murphy, Pedlar. Butts may replace Borlase if that one SANFL game was the last tick required in his preparation program. Wouldn't be surprised it requires one or 2 more though and Borlase remains.

Theyd be managing him through the season, and that the Queensland and WA games he'd probably miss.

Tex himself mentioned it too.

Did they say that he'd, "probably miss" or that they'd be looking at those games as possibilities? I recall Tex saying last year that his season was going to be "quality over quantity" and yet we saw him play hampered by a back injury in a season that was over a third the way in. What we say and what seems good practice doesn't always make it through selection committee.

Nicks when he realises he has to replace a small forward:
