Tackled well, linked up in chains, smothered a likely goal

What he didn't do well - he's seen as depth at best so even his good performances are automatically dismissed
There's a long list of VFL players who could do that and more at AFL level.

Mitch Wallis is more than capable of all that. He's also shown he can be a high disposal winner in midfield, and a very solid medium forward. He's also actually performing well at VFL level.

We don't want Wallis in the midfield. And he wouldn't suit the role that R.Smith played last week which was not up forward.

Most of us didn't want R.Smith to play last week, but he performed his role as well as we could have hoped, and you don't just drop him because you don't like him in general. Especially after a solid performance in a good interstate win.

Move on from the whipping boy hate .. and stop making new accounts

In junktime?

What if Naughton did his knee crashing a pack in the last 5 minutes of a game we were 40+ points up in? Would you still say he was right to keep crashing packs? In scenarios like that, players often tend to drop their work-rate and jog around to avoid risking injury, which is basic common sense.

Every goal counts towards percentage which could be the difference between a top 8, 4 or 2 spot, and it could be, for example, the difference between playing the Eagles Perth v Marvel in a Final.

The latter example could change the whole trajectory of our finals campaign.

You want Wallis lining up on a wing? Jeeze

Roarke is only in the side atm because we have injuries. He's depth that can come in and not * everything up while being able to run out a game. He doesn't need to be racking up 25 and 2 goals. He needs to be in the right spots defensively, run hard, tackle and halve contests in the air.

In order to have excellent players and good players you have to have average players. Not everyone can be excellent. It’s like that 20/60/20 rule that some businesses run on (not that I agree it’s a good business model. )

There are the star players , the good-average players, and the ones fighting to stay on the list.

I don’t want Roarke to have 20+ possessions, it would indicate that something is badly wrong with our system.

We allow Bont to have 30 possessions by offering up the harassing sacrificial lambs. I can’t see Wallis sprinting to cover ground for the press for four quarters.

Not everyone on the list is a star.

The one player I’d like to lift is Lipinski, he can’t translate his damaging VFL form to the seniors.

King - Keath (big one for Keathy!)
Ryder/McKernan - Cordy
Membrey - Williams
Butler - Duryea
Lonie (who always manages to play well against us!) - Dale

Hunter Clark - JJ to do a defensive job

On paper we should win this well. But who bloody knows against this mob.

You make some good points.

Some people on here should listen to Easton Wood’s comments on the Barkly St Podcast.

Easton said that there was a special vibe around the club this year and that was indicative of a lot of players doing selfless acts with blocks and taps and sacrificing their games for the betterment of the team.

People should keep this in mind before they start reeling off low stats when they pot shot role, fringe and depth players.

I've only seen 1 game Frawley played this year (not sure how many he has played), but he looked completely done. Whoever he gets should have a field day

Marshall and Ryder have been such factors in their recent wins against us. With Marshall out and Ryder still underdone from a lengthy absence we really should be winning this.

We have to show up on our game of course and never take anything for granted but this is a should win.

Need to put game away early.

Ryder was an issue for us even when he was playing for Port

This is because you're judging him in the context of his previous performances. Because he didn't make any glaring errors, you perceive it as "playing well", when in reality, 13 disposals and not being particularly damaging is still very much mediocre for a player in a team that's meant to be contending. That isn't even getting to the fact that he did nothing in the VFL to earn selection in the first place, and that he has no business being in the team ahead of Mitch Wallis.

Roarke Smith has been on the list for 6 years, and has never been anything other than an average player.
Go watch the 1st quarter again and see how important his role was then. Without that lead we may not have one.
then watch the last quarter and see if he impacted. It’s not all about disposals. The only way players become coaches pets is by playing the role they were selected for or asked of them. .

What has Steve Wallis here done to get banned?

So if everyone, including the opposition coaches, know the team lineups are a joke, just what is the point? I don’t expect the match committee to give away planned moves but put in the obvious stuff for us to give some idea players roles. ( of course if Roarke does line up at FB ignore this post)
Agree with dogwatch, just list the names in alphabetical order

Obviously Mitch's dad... or mum...
