And the poster above who said Marlion BOG - couldn’t agree more. The thing that stood out at the game was his sheer will and effort to create a contest and carnage. The hit on Himmelberg was right in front of us and it was huge. He was a wrecking ball, fearless and GWS knew it.

How glorious was that.

What about the goal review that was over turned? Is the rule not that it has to be conclsuive to overturn the decision? The potato vision they showed was anything but conclusive. Robbed a goal there.
Almost broke my tv. Was a dead set ****ing disgrace that decision. Bloke had his back to the goal umpire and vision was far from conclusive

Pit him in the backline
It's really hard to shoehorn him into the side now. His best position would be sitting behind the ball and giving the St's forwards no chance, then swinging forward when Balta/Lynch are resting. Not sure if that's gonna work every week though.

why would JR not only come back when he is right??

For longevity reasons we want JR to last as long as possible.

Clearly the more experience Balta gets the better he will be wherever he is, gun
This will be his last season has come back off a broken thumb and Balta has kicked 4 and monstered his opponent. Happy for him to play but your 2 starting talls are Balta and Lynch

I thought Soldo was getting towards something and will get better. I still think our senior players held the team together and still concerned that the youngsters aren't showing much considering they're our future. Gibcus and HRS were the pick of the kids and will be a gooduns.
Did you not think Dow showed something as an inside mid. Was a bit hurried early on but the longer the game went the cleaner and better decisions he made. Has some good wheels to and that change of direction. Pretty exciting if/when he gets it together.

Balta and Bolton were as influential as anyone.

Also, just noticed Prestia is in the frame for next week… glad the injury was mild! Now we need Dustin back, and with Cotchin rebounding and Picket/McIntosh on the wings, we can have a core midfield that when in form as good as any in the Comp

What a difference a week makes (well, 10 days). Good to see us rebound with all our outs against what in theory is a pretty decent Giants outfit.

I was so flipping impressed with Pickett on the weekend, and was nice to be at a live game for the first time in ages. With a 6-month old I didn't think I'd get the green light to go much if at all this season. But yeah Pickett was bloody fantastic. Would love to see him thrown on to the ball and as someone else mentioned have KMac and Ralphsmith play wing.

Hard to pick a best 22 now which is a good thing, just hope that Dusty is a part of that soon.

To have a crack...

Gibcus, Tarrant, Broad
Vlastuin, Grimes, Short
Ralphsmith, Cotchin, McIntosh
Lambert, Balta, Bolton
Edwards, Lynch, Riewoldt
Nankervis, Martin, Prestia
Soldo, Graham, Pickett, Baker

Medi-Sub: Rioli

Emg/ Castagna, Ross, Dow

Obviously it's heavily based on the rose-tinted glasses you wear after a great win, but you also have Parker and Miller stiff to miss that side, and we still wanna find a game for one or both of Stack and Cumberland. MRJ showed a bit in the VFL too, and despite some good showings from new kids there's no rush with them, but they look promising.

Even if we come back to earth a bit one week soon, there's plenty of upside moving forward hey, plenty to work with.

Looking at that best 22 though, Rioli is stiff especially based on the weekend's game, and can we really play both rucks plus the 3 tall forwards? Just not sure of the best makeup anymore but also cannot imagine Jack missing out. They might end up opting to rest Gibucs, play Balta back, and bring Jack back to see how he fares. If he can't quite give us enough, Jack might even play back..?!

What did people make of Sonsie's game in the VFL? I was at the game briefly and in the last quarter Sonsie had a chance to swoop on a ball in the midst of a little congestion, I think it was near our half back line. He shirked things a bit and Southport ended up with the ball, but it really should have been Sonsie's had he gone hard enough. Tiredness or perhaps something he'll need to work on to make the jump to AFL level?

Wouldn’t make too bigger deal of that mate in his first vfl game , he appeared on the highlights with some nice play . I says he’s not ready for senior footy and after 1 vfl game an encouraging effort 19p and a goal

Amazing what happens when you play 4 quarters , I thought Soldo killed there ruckman in centre bounces and we seem to clear the ball easier from centre square compared to when Nank was in the middle .
Soldo was way more commanding in cbd than r1 his first senior game in 18m. Was really mixing his tapouts about making it harder to read for the oppo

Good analysis.... Except Rioli. If the oppo has a fast small, as let's face it, all teams do, Rioli is a lock. I was unsure at the end of last year, and the preseason, if he could play the lockdown role and have the runoff and overlap, but yesterday he showed he is up to it imo. Different to Houli with marking, but better on tackling. No way he is the sub even with Grimes and Vlas both coming in.

From the way dimma answered the questions re dusty I don’t think he’s confident he’ll be back soon- Almost sounded like he might be done.
Be sad if we never saw him again.
Nah, he's just not giving the media anything to feed off. He handled it correctly and professionally.

My take is they’re playing it smart ,,, VERY smart . That is zero updates on his status , dusty would respect that more than anything
