this would have to be the first time in a while we havent gone for a PSD pick... in recent years, Colquhoun and McCarthy..

Up to and including last year, taking at least one PSD pick seemed to be a PAFC policy set in stone.
Peter Rohde sure made it sound that way.

As a result, in hindsight Colquhoun was in 2012 unnecessarily passed over in the National Draft by us, as well as everyone else... followed by an equally unnecessary nail-biting wait for our first PSD pick.

I thought while listening to the 2012 National Draft come to an end that it was an unfortunate example of our recruiters not thinking on their feet, not making a nifty executive decision.
We were lucky, I'd reckon, as I feel The Hoon has a promising future in black, white, teal (and silver, somewhere)... and in Prison Bars of course, until he cements his spot in the Power.

So glad the SA under 18's coach gave him that role as an extra defender. If the coach gave him a role where he had to man up on someone he would have went top 30 no doubt.
I back Colquhoun to play 22 games for the Power this season. I feel he is the most underrated player on this board based on most peoples teams not having him in our best 22 come round 1.
If he played for the Maggies he would just get 30 touches every week just like he did at Centrals.

Same. That's how I felt at the time.

i think the recruiters putting their feet up post pick 30 was d/t the predraft plan of having 1 PSD pick

I would hope we are looking at a Ruckman and a big bodied midfielder.

Rucks -
Archie Smith 200/95
Josh Miller 204/95
Cameron Conlon 200/90 - more of a key forward
Darcy Cameron 204/105
Scott Jones 204/101
Reilly O'Brien 200/94

Big Bodied Mids

Aiden Franetic 185/84
Nick Favretto 189/89

Looks like Collingwood and Essendon want Conlon :(
Shall we get Jed Redden as a development ruck and hope his bro comes back home?

note: It would be very confusing with Jed, Jack and Jarrad Redden

Isn't Venter in Dubai though? Or am I seeing things?

Edit:

Is that him top right? Or am I being one of those "all gingers look the same" guys?

Is the person I think your looking at development coach Aaron Greaves?

Heard we have some interest in Louis Herbert, he's 188cm, quick and a ranga. Like a combo Harvey/Byrne-Jones. :D

Only 5 picks in the PSD and one of them is committed to Lamb.
Good, it means that a few of the players we are keen on for the Rookie draft might still be available by the time our pick comes around. :thumbsu:

Will only be the one pick used in the PSD according to Callum Twomey and Emma Quayle.

I knew Sydney were going one or two short to remain within the salary cap, but I hadn't realised other teams had the same issue.
That would be the only reason to not have a full list.

Also gives you some flexibility. Pretty sure there's a rule which allows clubs who are a player short to nominate a rookie to their senior list before Round 1. So if you take a PSD pick you get pushed up the draft order a few spots but you're also locked into that player being the one who gets the last main list spot, but if you leave the spot free then you have the pre-season to decide which rookie you'll nominate.
Does it give you an extra rookie spot?
I thought rookies/veterans were connected but IIRC there have been a few rule changes over the last couple of years because of GCS and GWS.

I think so. I'm sure REH or someone else can confirm or deny this, but I think clubs can choose between 38 + 6, 39 + 5 or 40 + 4.

Just in case my explanation wasn't clear, I'll give an example. Pretend we hadn't drafted Amon and we still had a spot left on the main list. Then say we had our eyes on Darcy Hourigan, Sam Gray and Frazer Dale for the three spots left on our list. We could either a) take one of Hourigan, Gray and Dale in the PSD and then rookie the other two, which gives the advantage of reducing the risk of another club drafting one of them, or b) skip the PSD pick and take them both as rookies, which gives us the advantage of an extra few months to decide which of Hourigan, Dale, Gray, Mitchell and Renouf we want to promote to the senior list as a 'nominated rookie' next year.
Yeah I think you might be right.
A few years back the numbers were fixed but then they went to something along the lines you mentioned except that I think the 38 + 6 might be a total of 6 rookies and or veterans or something along those lines.
