Hurley from Sturt about 5 or 6 years ago, was expected by some to be a 1st round pick in his year. Hes mainly played amateurs since.
Panos from Norwood was highly rated, but like Hourigan, under-sized. Panos was rookied, but in the main just been a solid SANFL footballer.

In addition to these six rookie-listed players, each club can include up to three additional players (now referred to as Category B rookies) on its Rookie List provided the player either:

IRISH ROOKIE PRE-SELECTION
Irish players can be signed directly to a club’s Rookie List under the International Player Rule and do not have to go through the draft. Previously, Irish players could not be listed as Category B rookies but took a spot on the main Rookie List.
Clubs can now list one Irish player as a Category B rookie but for each additional Irish player rookie listed, that player will be deemed to be a Category A rookie and the club will forfeit its last selection in the Rookie Draft for each additional player listed.
According to the Tiser Port had Sam Russell in the top 35 players in the draft and we couldn't believe he was still there.

Flynn isn't on the main rookie list. We can only have 4 category A rookies and they are Mutchell, Renouf, Gray, and Russell.
I assume the 4 main rookies is because we have the two vets ?
In which case, my original question stands, why did we call out Flynn's name with selection (I note on Wiki at least its listed as an international rookie selection)... I assume its just protocol then ... even though we can still add another international rookie until mid December ?
Have you seen him kick, he will get his team mates seriously hurt by continuously putting them under rain makers.
Have you???
I've seen a fair bit of Matt play through the juniors and TAC and whilst he certainly isn't any Hamish Hartlett by foot, he is nowhere near as bad as some would have you believe, perhaps lacks a bit of penetration, more to do with his fitness base as he has never done a full pre-season due to cricket commitments.Matt has represented Victoria [wicketkeeper/batsman] at both schoolboys and Under 17's and has played A grade cricket in Ballarat since he was 14. However his contested footy, reading of the play and handball/extraction skills are elite. Getting his fitness up to AFL standard will be his toughest assignment IMO. Let's face it you rarely get the "perfect" footballer outside the top ten or so picks but there's plenty of scope with Matt.
P.S. I have resided in the Central Highlands, Victoria for the last 10 years, after shifting over from S.A.
Time will tell I guess Jumbo, though I see his role more as a Scott Thompson in and under type player, Thommo ain't great with his foot skills either but most teams would love one like him, perhaps even Port??Did becoming full time footballers with numerous pre-seasons under their belts sure did help Tregenza and symes with alleviating their bomb scare kicks?
Shit I hope he's a better than Tregenza and Symes anyhow.

That vets thing has me a bit bamboozled. I think it used to be the case but according to the afl info prior to the draft it only depends on how many are on your main list. You can have a total of 44 players made up of 38 main list + 6 rookies, 39 + 5 or 40 + 4. If my sums are right we have 40 on the main list.
The international rookie read out seems to be an administrative direction. A few other clubs read out their international rookies too.
I think we can still add Venter under the 3 year rule. There was no deadline given for rookies under that rule as far as I could tell.
Thursday 31 October by 2pm - list lodgement (1); rookie promotion to primary list; retained second and third-year rookies; scholarship players; alternate talent player nominations.
Friday 8 November - international players inclusion on rookie list form; players not registered or played for 3 years rookie list form lodgement.
Monday 25 November - Gillette AFL delisted free agency period (3) concludes; AFL club list lodgement (3); notification of NSW and Qld pre-selected rookies, father-son pre-selected rookies, Academy pre-selected rookies, international scholarship pre-selected rookies and scholarship pre-selected rookies nominated if not selected in the pre-season draft.

Out-Of-Puff will go well with Head-Crouch, all the foot skills of Leon Milde.

One thing about a post like that, you are bound to get a reply.Brad Ebert's kicking is pretty good now. I think Brad has pushed into the top 50 players in the AFL. Better kick than Judd
