Game Day Round 13: Collingwood V Melbourne, 12 June, 3.20pm

Pretty simple really. We fumbled almost every ball, handballed to opposition, kicked to opposition, couldn’t stick tackles, couldn’t free players up, made a lot of poor decisions and didn’t execute our skills, rarely had a favourable bounce of the ball. Yes Melbourne should have won by more but a lot of their chances came from shocking skill errors on our part.

But our game plan of moving the ball quickly was dumb, considering that's what Melbourne wanted us to do. We should have been alot more precise with our kicking, instead of just kicking it quickly to no one, and Melbourne just have repeat forward 50 entries. It was ridiculous. Not sure if the instruction was to get the ball and just play on and kick it aimlessly to the opposition.
It's good to play quick tempo footy, but you also need to take a breath and assess the quick movement isn't working for us, so lets hold the ball a bit more and hit targets....

Moving quickly is a good tactic... the problem was the Pies plan of gaining meters was by bombing it out with a kick to an outnumbered or surrounded Pies player.

Needed to be craftier.

McStay will come in, can we trust Krueger with his body. He looked good yesterday against Casey, but can he get through a senior game?

Disgusting performance today. Looked like rabbits in the headlights and weren't brave enough to take the game on earlier.

Too many players didn't play their role and stick to their strengths. Way too many passengers including Cameron, McInnes, McCreery, Harrison and Johnson.

should be told to take the first option and shouldn't be permitted to take kick-ins. He might've improved over the journey, but he's still prone to turning the ball over when he attempts to be too creative. McInnes isn't AFL standard right now and Harrison was largely anonymous.

McRae's press conference should be interesting. Our forward 50 entries were poor and played to Melbourne's strengths. We failed to switch the ball when Melbourne lined up down the line and were caught blindly hacking the ball out of contests (Cameron). I'd like to know why Ginnivan, Elliott and McStay didn't play - were they injured / unfit, or did we think we'd get away with one today?

Regardless of the win/loss column, today is probably a better reflection of reality. St Kilda showed how to defend against us and better teams have been able to execute the blueprint - flood the defensive 50 and slow us down by denying the corridor and forcing us to chip down the wings. Then when you get it, take care of the ball in your half of the ground until you get the opportunity to launch it deep into your forward line, giving your defence enough time to set up behind the ball.

We played like sh1t and lost by 4 points.
We had key players out.
Even Pendles was turning the ball over.
Better we lose now & have time to fix the issues, rather than have it happen at the pointy end.
HH looks like he's going to be a player.

Agree with all your points though don't think it was "disgusting". Just a reality check.

Most concerning is the blueprint to beat us. The only way to combat that is to win the clearances. But I can't see us doing that against this mob any time soon. De Goey is balanced out by Oliver so there's some concerns. Elliot and Sidebottom help though.
