I'm sure it's all been said before but it really says volumes about the incompetence of the AFL when we have a week's break before finals yet for some reason the last round still needs a floating fixture.

I can still remember the infamous Round 22 game in 2001 when Freo had only won 1 game for the whole year. All we had to do was beat the hapless Dockers by 2-3 goals to earn a home final, it couldn't be that hard right? They kicked something like 10 goals to 2 after half time and thrashed us by 7 goals

I think it's more about TV viewership than resting before finals. All the games given prime time slots could be ones which affect the final 8 the most.

Give their respective fans a good slot to see the game
But hide it on Foxtel so neutrals won’t know it exists.
