Let's hope that just because we re 5-3 we suddenly don't go for experience for the sake of it because we are "in contention". The bigger picture has to prevail.

There is no guarantee that we will be in the 8 in the next 5 years, if we are kinda getting there this year, we'd have to give it as fair a chance as possible.

You wouldn't expect that Zac D would come back in now (except for injuries), probably DPearce is the one to come out for SHill's return (and only because the position is best filled by both Hills, not because he had a bad game) etc so our best 22 as already determined by the selection committee isn't automatically seasoned veterans first.

With these wins, I wouldn't be expecting youth to be played just for the sake of injecting experience into them - at this point I think they'll have to earn selection. Probably Ballas is the only veteran that would make it back into the side on merit and not because injury/suspension gives them a recall, but even then he'd probably need to get some touch at Peel first.

A good opportunity to have Luke come in. Home game, slightly lesser opponent. Let's give this guy a shot

5-6 knocking on the door

Important to keep the youngsters fresh, they're the guys that have given us the energy after round 2

Why is Mundy in trouble?
He collected Rance's head with his hip in the goal square . . Rance was awarded a free kick but he was very groggy for some time and after but he stayed on the ground. which surprised me as he should have had a concussion test .Very poor player management you Richmond TBH .

Was there two times? Cause I only remember one on the Freo HFF.

Winning 5 out of the last 6 says there won't be many changes apart from Injuries . Hill and Balla will be automatic when fit .

Exactly - and no one (not even Ibbo) was terrible yesterday.

Mundy's not in trouble, Grey played out the game and a Ryan selection is pure fantasy talk at this point.

It will be a case of someone making way for Hill, Ballantyne and potentially Balic if they're all fit this week.

The bigger picture is that with all the experienced players in the side we produced performances like Rd's 1&2.
Being suddenly in contention is because we refreshed the team with some new faces.

Only want ibbo out this round , time to put some fresh face like Luke Ryan or Collins in. Who can said they will not play better than ibbo ? Leaking less goal will improve the percentage also .

I won't be surprised if there isn't any changes but I'd love to see Ryan for Ibbo and Balic for someone but realistically can't see who he'd replace just yet.

Ibbo actually didn't do that badly but I think he just needs a week or 2 in the WAFL to dominate and remember how good he can actually be. D.Pearce was good yesterday, can't see him coming out. All the people calling for Croz need to relax, Croz should be in the younger, more fluent team because he can seriously become something. Even when Stringer for the dogs struggles, they don't drop him because of what he can do. Croz is the same. I've still yet to see any reason or footage of why the free kick was given. Especially considering Kersten and Tabs both got dragged down behind the play in our f50 on more then one occasion.

Stringer get drop last year due to form .

From the link below

In Stringer’s past four games he has kicked four goals, suffered a shoulder injury and been accused of playing soft football.

I have no idea who makes room for SHill and Balic if fit, let alone Ballas and Ryan possibly being in the mix as well?

Thought Spurr was much improved defensively and didn't get caught chasing the ball and leaving his man unmanned that I can remember - so he holds his spot again. Although he was our only player not to be involved in a score which surprised me. Still think he is closer to the fringe than many assume.

Ibbo and Croz might be in jeopardy as both made more than one critical mistake in the final quarter that could have cost us the game. Thought Danyle Pearce was ok, especially in the 3rd, so should probably hold his spot. Sutty was solid also up until the last quarter but he wasn't alone there.

Unless someone is rested or comes up sore it's going to be the toughest week in a long time for the selectors. Just hope they don't resort back to our experience over youth policy from Rds 1 & 2 now that we are strong chance to be in the 8 after next week. I suppose a poor showing in the 4th gives them some reasons to find room for those coming back from injury at least.

Scream Luke Ryan and Collins , confident they had what it take to play Carlton. Apart from tab not much changes make after Rd 1 and 2. Same old players sherriden or sutty , suban or d.pearce .

My main question would be about Walters who took a bit of a battering. Really important player to us and want him in good nick. If he needs a short recovery, and if we are wanting to bring S Hill, Ballantyne or Balic in, then this could be a doorway for that to happen. Possibly even Ryan if they wanted to flirt with Weller in the middle/forward.

IN : S Hill

OUT : H Crozier

If you watch the behind the goals vision in the AFL Wrap with Lloyd et al, Crozier was a f**king idiot.
We had the f**king ball FFS.
I'm a fan, but he needs to go back to Peel.

For mine this is about improving over the 1-2 years we have before we're a genuine chance.

So Balic lost his spot only due to illness.
He comes straight back in for Pearce.

Hilly is in for Sutcliffe, although he doesn't really deserve to be dropped.
Hill is a massive upgrade.

While I didn't think Ibbo was too bad, Ryan should be slotted into his position now.
Reading the reports from Peel we see "long accurate" kicking mentioned a lot.
Ballantyne is coming back from serious injury. A couple of weeks at Peel wont hurt him. If Crozier isn't performing then he goes.

Tucker is being eased in, judging by the fact he's only getting 50-60% game time a week

Yeah I agree with this. We can't leave SHill and Balic sitting on the sidelines so someone has to come out. Long term I'd like us to try transitioning our back line something like this:

Primary key defender: Hamling > APearce
Secondary key defender: Johnson > Hamling
Hybrid defender: Ibbo > Hughes
Lockdown small defender: Spurr > Nyhuis
Half back/medium defender: Hughes > Ryan
Rebounding half back: Weller
Interchange half back: Sutty > Croz

And still with Logue, Collins, Cox, Duman all in the mix as well.

I'd be looking at Logue replacing Spurr.

So something like

Hughes Hamling Ryan
Logue A Pearce Johnson (Nyhuis)

Otherwise known as the Dawson factor...

Steven Hill would be an automatic but they may choose to give him another week to be sure. Ballas has missed a lot of footy now, I am not sure he warrants automatic inclusion anymore unless Grey is injured.

Changes will be minimal. Arguments for Balic, Ryan in particular but how much do we push our luck with the youth policy.

I agree with most of your thoughts. Actually it is also highlighting an imbalance in our list with all four of your "in the mix players" being +192cms.

Realistically, Collins is enough depth and seems to be a genuine best 22 contender, and the three others need to find alternative ways to push their cases, perhaps the most realistic opportunity centring on Mundy's stage of career; Logue and Duman more likely at this early stage.
