Round 13
Round 13, a.k.a. the Best Round of the Season, lived up to the hype by having not 1, not 2, not 5 but 4 games decided by a goal or less. It was a match poster's dream as so many games went down to the wire.

Firstly, we have the Dragons and the Bombers where the scores were tied with 4 minutes remaining. Baghdad had been 21 points ahead at one point but could only watch as the winning goal was kicked at the Dragons' end. The Bombers did get one last push in the time left but could only get a minor score as the Dragons sort to use the win to stay inside the 8. Then we have the Phoenix and the Wonders who had 5 lead changes in the final quarter. However, despite the close nature of the game, East Side would fail to score any points in the final 12 minutes, leaving West Coast to spray almost all their shots at goal but ensure a win by locking the ball down at the Wonders end.

Halfway through the 4th quarter, the Royals were ahead of the Roys by 3 goals but were tiring, with the timeline of goals showing the Roys scoring 5 of the last 7 goals of the match. Luckily for Gold City, they would have 2 moments of resistance to keep their heads above the water, with a crucial behind scored with 5 minutes left ending up derailing the Roys' comeback as they got within a goal of victory with just 17 seconds left. A similar story occurred with the Furies-Demons game as the Furies were ahead by 4 goals, the Demons scored 4 of the last 5 goals but it was too little, too late as that 1 goal the other way put a stop to Mount Buller's winning streak and put of the 8 once again.

The 2 games that weren't edge-of-your-seat nail-biters saw the Gumbies and Swamprats have a shootout, with the Gumbies' 10-goal 2nd quarter putting the result well beyond doubt and even got the Gumbies back to on top of the ladder as the Warriors slumped to one of their worst games ever, only scoring 5 goals for the whole game as the Old Boys ran out 92-point winners to try and not end up with the spoon.

Now that every team has had the Bye once, let's see what that does to the Predictor.

BLOW THE FREAKING SIREN!!!!!!

Round 14
Round 14. For some, it was the penultimate round. For others, it was a week off. For everyone, however, it was Heritage Round as well as another round of close results which saw every away team take home the victory. How did this affect the leaderboard?

Ever wanted to watch a team that can't score go against a team that can't score accurately? Like the argument of quality over quantity but using a terrible game of qooty. Well, that was the Warriors-Royals game which saw Gold City win by 5 points with almost twice the amount of scoring shots. Compare that to the Roys-Swamprats game which had an exciting finish, and plenty of goals at both ends, the margin stayed within a goal almost the entire last quarter but was ultimately won by the Sin City defense.

The Gumbies gave the Furies a scare as well, with the Fighting defense doing their job right before the Gumbies turned a 34-point deficit into a lead, while the Dragons also tried to have a comeback against the Bears with Las Vegas scoring the winning (and only) goal in the last 17 minutes of the game.

The Demons won the return Foundation Cup match comfortably over the Wonders, the Bombers continued East Side's misery to destroy their finals hopes and we now have just 1 game left to win the Mobbs Predictor. Who is in the box seat to be the overall winner?

Round 15
But before we get to the final round, first we have a dead rubber! Unless you're DenieD who won the Fred Medal from this game within the first quarter. Unfortunately for him though, the rest of the Wonders didn't get the same memo until Three-Quarter Time as the Old Boys were looking to get off the bottom of the ladder. While West Coast scored 7 goals to 2 in the final quarter to almost upset that, it was too little too late as the Wonders became Elimination Final bound while Ophidian had 1 more chance to secure the wooden spoon.

So it all comes down to this: Tonga Bob sits in pole position on 19 votes with Ljp86 only 1 vote behind, followed by a pack of 3 on 17 comprised of ant555 GWS Goose and norway blue . Any one of these people could win outright, or we could even have a 5-way tie. I wonder how these 5 feel before the final round of votes are revealed?

Round 16
Round 16, one last chance to finish atop the Predictor and it's all to play for 5-7 players. How did the games go while the individuals went about getting Best-on-Ground?

Despite it being well-known that the Furies prefer being at the bottom of the ladder over making finals, the Roys were nowhere close to besting the Furies during the second half, the Furies were always 4-5 goals in front until the final siren. It wasn't the only result this round that sent the Roys out of finals contention, but you should never leave your fate to others. Frothies Mcveigh

1700295298071.png 1700313706910.png

The Phoenix only had an outside chance to make the finals, but going up against a Top-2 side was never going to end pretty for them. The Bears gave East Side their 6-straight loss to end the season as Las Vegas secured the double chance and home advantage while the Phoenix were left wondering where all the heavy defeats came from. Another Top-2 team going up against a team trying to get an unlikely finals berth and it ended they way the mostly do. The Gumbies got the minor premiership with no trouble as the Gold City Royals were completely decimated on both the scoreboard and the Mobbs Predictor. Unfortunately, the Gumbies vote-getters didn't include GWS Goose, meaning there are now only 4 that can win the Predictor. cats_09

While on paper, the Bombers-Old Boys game looked like it was the closest game of the round. However, Ophidian didn't have any goals until after Quarter-Time and it doesn't seem like Baghdad was putting in maximum effort in the final quarter. The result gave the Bombers a double chance in finals while the Old Boys went from Premiers to Wooden Spooners (2 things the Warriors haven't won). Only 2 games to go now. Pugsley

1700295335904.png 1700313722905.png

The one game that had a lead-change in the 4th quarter, the Dragons for most of the match were staring down an early end to their season. While they were behind, the Dragons were never too far behind and piled on 9 goals to 2 once it was obvious that the Roys weren't going to win their match-up. The result saw both teams reach finals with the Demons only making finals due to other teams taking on penalties. Chief

1700295349155.png 1700313729661.png

The Warriors' woes continued as they suffered a 4-straight loss, sending them to an elimination final. It wasn't all one-sided as Coney Island was ahead for most of the 3rd quarter and was within 10 points of the lead until after 14 minutes were left in the game. It was, however, the Swamprats who led at every change and were the better team as Sin City secured the last double chance in a game that could determine who wins the Mobbs Medal. ant555

The Home-and-Away has been simmed and we get our predicted winners. A 3-way tie between ant555 Ljp86 and Tonga Bob with norway blue failing just shy of joining the trio as GWS Goose and Frothies Mcveigh round out the Top 5.

Now that the main course is finished, onto dessert to find the Finals MVP!
Champagne graphics mate!

Finals History
Of course, this thread isn't finished until we've gone over the 4 weeks of finals. Who in the competition is the best qooty player when any game could be the team's last and when the entire league is watching?

Now, as someone pointed out in last season's thread, there isn't any official award for being the best player during finals. So I went and calculated who was the Finals MVP all the way back to Season 18 when time started.

Season - Player (Team) - Score
Season 35 - Fleabane (Old Boys) - 34
Season 34 - Ligma (Bombers) & DenieD (Gumbies) - 24
Season 33 - larrikin (Phoenix) - 27
Season 32 - por_please_ya (Phoneix) & Supersuns (Roys) - 19
Season 31 - manangatang (Demons) - 28
Season 30 - Nunez (Swamprats) - 31
Season 29 - philreich (Swamprats) - 25
Season 28 - Ljp86 (Dragons) - 25.5
Season 27 - philreich (Swamprats) - 32
Season 26 - DemonJim (Demons) - 25.5
Season 25 - Ant Bear (Swamprats) - 29
Season 24 - miggs (Bombers) - 31
Season 23 - Itsmyshow (Bombers) - 30.5
Season 22 - Determinant (Dragons) - 18
Season 21 - pantskyle (Hawks) & Danoz (Dragons) - 20
Season 20 - Sublime (Swamprats) - 28
Season 19 - Stronzo (Warriors) - 26
Season 18 - lanky_wes (Demons) - 29.5

Time to find out who will join this illustrious and strange group this season.

Finals Week 1
Week 1 of finals and the Warriors are already out of contention after being on top of the ladder for most of the season, losing to a team that needed 2 teams to get penalties to play finals. Wasn't much of a contest either, Coney Island for the 5th week in a row went belly-up before the siren rang for Quarter-Time. The Dragons in their Elimination Final were at least in the contest for most of the game before the Wonders kept them to 1 goal after the last change which helped cover over West Coast shotgun sprays at goal.

The Qualifying Finals on the other hand went as expected, with the Gumbies slowly building up a lead throughout their match with the Swamprats never troubling the Gumbies at any point of the second half. The same thing happened with the Bears but with the goal-scorers putting the scoreboard to regular use as the Bomber's score would've won them the game (or at least tied) in the other 3 games played but now have to play next week as Las Vegas had not 1, not 3 but 2 players score 5 goals and a week off.

Could this be the start of a certain victory for one of these players?

Finals Week 2
Week 2 of finals and we have 1 team making a fairytale run while another bounces back to keep their shot at history alive.

Usually, when a team kicks 6 goals to 1 in a quarter, that team goes on to win. Seems that the Swamprats also believe this as they let off the accelerator past Half-Time. However, comma, this is finals qooty and we got to see a better masterclass by the Demons in the 2nd half of the game, kicking 13 goals and only conceding 2. The admin wasn't able to end his reign with a premiership but could see a team go from being gifted a finals spot to Grand Final winners.

The Bombers are the team you love to hate but I think there's more ill-will towards the Wonders nowadays. So it was quite fascinating to see who people wanted to win when the two sides met last week. The game delivered as well with the margin being 3 points with less than 5 minutes remaining. While West Coast had the first crack at the 21st-minute mark to get back in front, it was the Baghdad that ended up wanting the qooty ball more, finishing the game with the last 2 goals to seal their spot in the Preliminaries.

Finals Week 3
The Preliminaries have been run and won and we now know who will contest for the Premiership Decider. Let's see how that came about.

There's no better way to show you mean business than belting a team a week before the Grand Final and that's what both teams did right from the opening bounce. The Gumbies got out to a 38-point lead before the Bombers scored their first goal with less than 2 minutes before Quarter-Time, while the Bears built their own 5-goal lead against the Demons.

Both Baghdad and Mount Buller got within 3 kicks during the second quarter but both times, the better team of their respective games ended the first half stronger. The Gumbies and Las Vegas then put the results beyond doubt during the 3rd quarter by replicating the 1st term, though the Bombers will rue the inaccuracy they had in this quarter.

Both games saw the winning sides let their defeated opponents have a good finish to their matches as we now prepare to see who will win between the Gumbies and the Las Vegas Bears. Which players helped their teams reach a long-awaited Grand Final berth though? Let's see there's...

1702118274987.png

...that means we are down to 6 players who could take out the Finals MVP for Season 36. Pugsley still sits on top of the leaderboard despite going missing in the Bombers loss and it shouldn't be hard for someone to jump past him. GWS Goose will have the best chance to this award to their CV but could his bad luck with winning open the door for rookie nobbyiscool to take home the prize? As for the Bears, 200-gamer Millky95 is their best chance at what could be the cherry on top for the milestone. As for Bradbury plans, both cats_09 and Art Vandelay_ are mathematical chances to join the Finals MVP group thanks to the 1.5x multiplayer the Grand Finals has.

Alright, time to find out who adds their name to the long list of Finals MVPs this season.
