Review Semi final vs Hawthorn - Ugly, Historically Embarrassing and Pathetic

You'll get smashed.... and rightly so.

There's been some dumb things posted on this board, this is up there.
Well I am a biased South Adelaide fan.

I think Draper is gonna be a solid player. Either on a wing or forward flank.

I love Brayden Cook. But I don't think he is some one that's gonna be in a team that makes a grand final.

That he was shit. Well beaten by Meek.

But did it matter? No. ROB hasn't mattered all season.

You tried to talk about clearances pre finals and how concerning it was. It was well proven that they dont matter.

We won the clearances last week and got beaten.

This week - we scored 5.3 from stoppages compared to Hawthorns 4.5. Where the game was won and lost? Turnovers.

Hawthorn scored 10.12 from turnovers compared to us scoring 4.3.

A lot of things we need to fix before we get to ROB.
I’m not sure how much I trust those stats, hawthorn had three goals on the board without it going past the centre through clearance to newcomb then you have Rob turning over a sure f50 entry late.
He absolutely does matter and it’s hurting us.
4 out of the 5 teams left have a better ruck/player than us.

Also noticed we are way too slow and one paced across the ground. Name one player in our starting 22 who has a bit of foot speed/acceleration. Do we just prioritise weights and "winning contests" over skills and foot speed? So many times a Hawthorn player was able to get separation out of a stoppage.

Tell us something we don't know. :embarrassedv1:
Not trying to sink the boots in.

Sam Powell Pepper is good. But is also an occasional nutcase .

Butters at the crows would of been huge.

Caleb Serong is like a Robbie Gray. Can Work in the midfield. But he would thrive on a forward flank.

Hayden Young was chosen in the top 10 for a reason. Similar to Jason Horne Francis.

Hayden Young would look good at the crows. 185 cm tall. Can play on a forward flank or back flank. Can play inside mid or outside mid.

Sure he average 20 to 25 disposals a game. But he is solid with either foot.

It's the usual thing with rucks.

You don't need a good ruck, but you do need a ruckman who is competitive and predictable. Doesn't have to win taps or do much, but has to not get destroyed and allow the midfield to plan for something (either winning or losing taps). A classic role player

ROB is often not competitive and based on the finals is not a big game player either. He was destroyed by Meek last night.

ROB is also far too inconsistent. Some weeks he just doesn't rock up. When he doesn't win the ruck contest he loses it badly. Sometimes he can kick, sometimes he can't.
The amount of times last night i yelled out, ROB get a bloody tap (to advantage)... & Meek proceeded to get the tap nearly everytime.

Thilthorpe looked more useful in ruck for us, but was our only decent tall forward.

I don’t think any of our KPDs were the right match up for Gunston the way the game was played last night.
Either Max or Woz should have been tried.

Just got to try something rather than conceeding.

Crazy that Meek had a good game last night. Not shocked.

Meek was on dockers list for 4 or 5 seasons. Played a few games. He is basically this decades Sam Jacobs.

Sauce Jacobs played like 15 games in 4 seasons at Carlton from 2007 to 2010. Goes back to South Australia . Joins the crows and had 8 or 9 good years here at the crows.

I heard Nicks in the pre game talking about how great the experience was and how everyone raised their hands when asked who’s played finals. He was talking like just having played would do the trick, like that was the only reason we lost. He’s a legitimate moron.

It's like he's an under 12s coach.

O'Brien is serviceable but hopefully is surpassed by McAndrew or a recruit like Dodson in a couple of years. He can be a good ruck but was poor last night mind you I think Meek is elite.

Crows used to find elite mids with mid- late picks, Vince, Stenglein, Sloane.

Doing that just once or twice in the next couple of drafts would go a long way.

On what basis does he go at 4? His use isn’t elite and if he has no composure, his decision making will be questionable.
Draper was clearly part of the best 4 players.

Has decent pace which we need.

Just need to fasttrack him & Edwards.

We looked rapid at the start of the year, we got smashed in contested possessions again last night - it's the reason we looked slow.

Smashed all over the park, but what didn't make sense to me was how poor Soligo, Peatling, Berry, etc were. The midfield was hopeless save for small periods. No one thought those players listed were elite before finals, but they'd been doing a decent job.

Rankine obviously makes a big difference, but he won't be enough to bridge the gap.

Curtin needs to be tried through there, Michaellany again. So bland and reactive as is.

Badly need to land Zac Bailey and/or similar to help Dawson and Rankine. Draper will need another 2-3 seasons before he's good enough to impact finals.

As to the mentality, players looked shot out there so often. Genuinely bizarre. Idk if the flu from last week was true or not, but you'd hope it is given the output of so many.

Worrell can hold his head up high, he is a leader. Need more like him.
Absolutely we need to be boosting our midfield. Should be chasing an established quality midfielder & fast tracking Draper & Edwards, as well as using Curtin more in the moddle.

Something that stood out to me was Thithorpe pulling a face when they were lined up for the National Anthem.

I think he is a great player but I feel like that said alot about our mindset and how seriously we took things.
This would not even register on my list of concerns about last night.

We had opportunities to get games into kids, but we blew them on Murphy and Smith.

They can all raise both hands now which is exciting.

Dowling showed he was an up and coming midfielder last year with some very impressive games and couldnt get a run. If that wasnt a symbol of a pathetic selection policy I dont know what was.

Commiserations for last night Crows. Just wasn't your night.

When you're on you play some of the best football and have a great, great squad.
Last night just wasn't it. It happens to the best clubs in every code.

I'm very sure you'll be up there again next season, you're in prime age with a great spine and a great leadership team.

A club to admire.

Best wishes for the offseason.
