Unofficial Preview Showdown 45

If it's close at half time, we'll win.

But we've got to make hay while we've got our neck on their throat, to mix a couple of metaphors. In showdown 44 after SPP's goal in the eighth minute of the last quarter we were 3 goals up with all the momentum. Just when we should have put it out of their reach we kept them in it with defensive play and a couple of ill-chosen kicks allowed them to go ahead. We were lucky to get out of that and would only have had ourselves to blame if we'd lost.

Totally not confident at all.

I'm praying for the day where I'm confident most weeks of a win , it's not this week.

Crows by 19 after port dominate play yet fail to capitalize on the scoreboard for 3 quarters of the match.

Who does he think he is, no one hate the Crows!

Or atleast that's what they all firmly believed until this year and they copped it from all angles as yet again they get exposed as the ratbag organisation we all know they are.
It's really shaken them too. Reminds me of the time they played sanfl finals and realised the old guard baby boomer male
core audience hated them with a passion. They won their 1st final and then came up against a right royal rogering from the umps.
The self imposed laughing stock status they have interstate is fantastic. The crowd booing Walker a few weeks back v Richmond :D

This is like Round 22, 2016 in reverse.

We were 9-11 at that point and they looked destined for Top 2 so naturally, we weren’t given much hope of winning.

But we pushed them to their very limit. They still prevailed but we did enough damage to sabotage them for West Coast the week after, costing them Top 4.

This is similar because we’re going for Top 4 while their season is as good as over, if we’re being honest. But the one thing they’d love most is to damage us as much as possible. Coincidentally we also have West Coast at home next week, like they did in 2016.

But of course let’s hope this time is different in the sense that we do get that precious Top 4 spot.

Port by 9 points.

Yeah. Beyond the ladder/seasonal thing we were horribly undermanned that night.

No Dixon, Hartlett, Ryder, Monfries, Wingard, Jonas, Hombsch, White. Running with Palmer, Toumpas, Neade, Krakouer, O'Shea, Lobbe and Amon as the next men up, with Schulz rushed back to play his final game at Adelaide Oval. I remember expecting to get smashed by at least 10 goals.

They'd be far more confident about this one and rightly so.

That said, would be super nice to see us cruise to a go-to-whoa heavy win in this fixture for the first time since Quorn Chocolate owned Glenferrie Garold. We're literally 17 years overdue.

Will be a lot closer than what most of yuse think, Jonas not the first port player to say he hates the Crows on national TV as Warren said the same thing on C7 some years back.

Crows by at least 19 points.

Yuse are shit but it's your grand final so it will definitely be close.

Port by 78.

Imagine the furor had it been Boak who turned up half an hour late to the presser...

Read that as "imagine the fuhrer"

I'd imagine he'd be quite upset.

Robbie Gray to kick 8 in a quarter ;)

But seriously, they seem to be taking a punt on bringing back a host of players who have missed a fair chunk of games - eg Douglas and Smith - and we look like we match up well in defence, with Jonas on Betts, Hombsch/Clurey on Walker, Doogs on Jenkins and DBJ on Lynch. If it rains, and we choose to play direct football, our midfield is bigger-bodied and more suited to heavy conditions, and getting it forward quickly allows Dixon, Gray, Wingard, Motlop and Watts to compete one-out.

We definitely don't match up well on Betts.

Would be surprised if Walker came up with that petty juvenile stunt on his own.
Whoever was behind it probably thought it was funny. I didn't know anything about it 'til Rooch said so this arvo

We totally controlled general play against the Crows last time we played and it still took a flukey 3rd quarter scoring burst to win, and not before a miracle final goal.

So in reality that doesn't fill me with much hope that we've broken through and dealt with the kryptonite that is their gameplan to us.

Add to that a manic crowd, a team that has some belief that the return of players is going to magically fix things, and the desperate desire they always have to beat us, and I think calling this game tough is an understatement.

The rain is also a huge concern, as it is proven their whole system is absolutely perfect for wet weather footy.

So overall, are we a chance? Well yes we are If we can hit the scoreboard and win the midfield battle. But will we win? No, there's too much against us and our form just isn't good enough, while our players are also starting to really appear bruised and battered, as the injury toll mounts, and seeking the relief of the pre-finals bye.

Crows by 17.

Melts galore to proceed on this forum.

That was the game where Sloane gave Ebert a whack and the media decided Sloane's suspension was all Ebert's fault because he wasn't tough enough and had "opened up like a bag of chips". Class.

The game is likely to be played in the wet, which we have endured fairly often.

Normally I am not happy with our game plan, but against the Dogs I felt it worked really well, and for much of the time had a more attacking focus than usual.

Last week was ugly winter weather so on Saturday I'm quite hopeful that we win well.

Ports by 23 points.

We are long overdue to give them an absolute hiding. Won’t happen, purely cause that’s not how our game plan works, for some reason. Another tight, low scoring tussle where we’re always 1-2 turnovers away from giving them the game. Joy.

I am hoping that all of our players are firing on all cylinders for this game. This is the start of our pre-Finals campaign and what better way to start it off with the clowns. If we come away with a good 3qtr effort to win by 20plus it will be a great performance leading into the next 3 games with confidence and excitement in the players minds having to cement a spot in the 8, let alone 4.

I not confident at all, having said that, if going by form, we should we win, but after a hard slog against the Bullies it will be a factor on our players but on the other side of the coin, should it be dry weather our boys should be better off after those wet conditions. Nail the kicking and decisions and let the ball do the running will be key to winning. Needless to say there is so much on the line in this next game.

The clowns are near to a full squad, they will be on with the granny's cheering on.... I got a feeling that we are going to be on the end of a tight loss....

Pretty much everyone has said it's likely to be close?

Anybody expecting a walkover needs to look at how these games are umpired. Year in year out the crows get gifted on average 20 odd points from biased umpiring in home showdowns, for us to win convincingly we have to overcome this as well as the team in front of us.

Port to win by a little, but like most of our remaining games, this is a danger game.

Whats funny is i know same crows supporters, they are the typical pensioner supporters, no memberships, don't go to games and only player they know is Betts.

They absolutely loathe port but for the life of them cannot comprehend the fact that i feel the same way about their "lovelyboys" (yes they do use this unironically ) they always spew "but soufstraya", hatred for their team is complete foreign.

I always thought people can't be that dense but here we are.

Yuse.
He won’t be the last. May as well get it out there, everyone not a tingle hates the crows. Don’t take it personally. “Yuse” are a pretty ******* shit plastic organisation. Let’s not beat around the bush here.

Hey hey carn yuse!!

We should be up and about, a lot of good signs last week. It would be great for Dixon to have a big Showdown.

After just finishing the Scott Hodges book, I hope we smash them and finish off the season strongly.
