Showdown whatever ADELAIDE v PORT Sunday

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Have a laugh if you want to but expect next weeks game to be a lot closer just as most of the showdowns have been

If the PA players have any pride in their jumper they will bounce back.

Crows to win by 2 - 3 goals.

Porp to win the medal.:thumbsu:

We just have to get on top of them early and if history is any guide, if we get on top early they will be gone.

every week I read to drop a young player after a quiet game

bringing payers in and out of the side will not help their development, we need to be more patient an accept they will have a quiet day from time to time

For example, Douglas was very good round 1, however quieter yesterday, dropping him next week after on quiet game is not the answer, we need to persist and keep providing them game time and experience, they will develop in this environment, however they will also have their quiet games,

a quiet game here or their does not mean is a form slump
Agreed. Dropping Douglas would be stupid. We need to be patient with the kids & only drop them after a decent run. None of this yo-yo selection policy that plays with their confidence.

Given Maric didn't set the world on fire & we don't have an players returning from injury, no need for changes IMO.

I would have preferred Port to win today as I don't fancy facing them 0-2. The Crows have had the wood on the Power in recent showdowns and based on this weekend's form will start favourites. That is just how Port will want it and I wouldn't be surprised if they won in a close match. I'll tip the Crows though but am already nervous.

It will be interesting to see how the young players in each team perform. We need Thompson, Goodwin and McLeod to keep maintain their current form so they are targeted/tagged and Porps is left alone. Not sure how he'll do with a tagger yet and am pretty sure he'll see one fairly soon.

Then Port has Brisbane, West Coast and St Kilda.

Classic.

So much to play for this week. Kick start the season and prove we are a force by backing up a win against the semi finalists from last year by then beating the runners up, and putting us on a 2-1 start to the season. Also crush ports hopes.

And finally get the showdown record to 12 all. Woop. Would make the next showdown MASSIVE.

Agree I thought Douglas was very good yesterday, whoever suggested he should be dropped has rocks in their head:thumbsd: Persistance is the key now, make changes when nessesary not 'just because':thumbsu:

So winning and team structure isn’t important any more?

So if we lose next week you will refrain from coming on this site and proclaiming it’s the end of the world by posting some crap?

Kurt Tippett hurt his knee yesterday but he can still play a vital role in the side as a forward. It may limit his mobility in the ruck making his ruck work a potential liability against the experienced duo of Lade and Brogan. So I would have him play as a permanent forward taking the pressure of him to perform. His knee injury will not stop him from playing but may make it difficult to last an entire game so we may need another ruckman to come into the side so who comes out?

I said Richard Douglas should be the one who comes out at this stage and I still stand by that. Selection has to be horses for courses and the unlucky player in my veiw was Richard Douglas.

WTF are you on about, Douglas was good yesterday, why wouldnt we win if Douglas plays? I want to win and Douglas playing wont change that at all, you out to pick a fight or what? Question what type of supporter I am?

Cox was always going to cause problems for us Griffen pretty much rucked the whole last 1/4 himself (Mcgregor was rucking a few of the midfeild stoppages) and it made not one bit of difference, he had an honorable game against one of the best ruckmen going around, Brogan is in terrible form at the moment and Lade in containable, did you even see that midfeild pressure is what won the game yesterday? Cox won the taps but our relentless midfeild pressure is what didnt allow them to benefit and get easy take aways.

So if Douglas is dropped who would then play his HFF crumbing/pressuring role which he worked his guts out for yesterday? We have struggled to find someone to play this role & if Macca plays down back, then we would be silly IMO to drop Douglas.

If it is decided we need another ruckman to play Tippett as a permanent forrward, then IMO Jericho makes way (even though he did nothing wrong to deserve dropping).

There's no way I'd drop Douglas for Maric. The only reason we should change the line-up is if Tippett is out injured - and then I'd almost prefer to put Sellar in ahead of Maric. If Tippett is ok, the scenario we had against the best combo in the league (Cox/Seaby) yesterday should work ok for the Lade/Brogan combo as well.

Exactly, it's a ****ing ridiculous suggestion from someone who hasnt a friken clue:rolleyes:

Exactly right, lets ensure we are playing a settled group every week not making rash suggestions on the back of zero information and need to do it, **** me if Douglas got dropped I will be ropeable, **** stupid we are even discussing it, but absurdly we are:rolleyes:

Vince, Edwards, MacKay, Porplyzia all rotating via the HFF at times.

And that’s your prerogative to have that opinion however I feel Jericho offer greater flexibility as he can play down back, wing, half forward or as a leading forward if needed.

Let's say Craig decides he wants Maric in this week even though Tippett is ok (assuming he is). That means someone has to make way (so discussing it is not really all that absurd). I think Douglas though has been instrumental in our performances the last two weeks. May not get the 20+ possessions, but what he does with the ball when he gets it has been very good. I would hate to see Jericho dropped after a good perfomance again, that would be the end of him for sure. I thought Bernie Vince did enough too. The only two I would consider would be KMac and DMac neither of whom deserve to be dropped .

That sort of thinking only really worked with the Port Magpies in the SANFL - they'd bounce back when their backs were to the wall and win against the odds.

Thankfully for us, Port Power is a whole new club that doesn't do that.

That is all.

Douglas didn’t play badly yesterday but saying he played well is not a correct comment either. I never said anything about him being the difference between a win and a loss, I said he would be the unlucky one to miss out of a change was needed.

Out to pick a fight? FFS grow up

Like you never come on after a loss and make stupid outlandish comments that any said person would be embarrassed about.

And at this stage of his career rather than dropping him after a more than serviceable performance I gave him that opportunity to perform again. You are correct it may be the end of him and as it’s my prerogative to write my won option, I decided to give to leave him in the side.

Dropping Richard Douglas may seem like it’s the end of the world to some but he will bounce back. He is a good player and with some luck play between 15 and 18 games this year and cement his place him the side. Now is the time to see if Jericho can back up his performance and perform in a tight contest two weeks in a row rather than taking the easy option of dropping him. Dropping Jericho will prove nothing, Vince is now starting to show some needed confidence and David MacKay is coming on in leaps and bounds. MacKay should get about 2 or 3 more games before seeing some SANFL action again and then be brought back. Its s steady process with the young kids as consistency is the key to getting good performances out of them.

That's the point - these guys rotate through the forward line, whilst Douglas was playing the more difficult role as a permanent HFF. This is a difficult role which he is growing into well & it would be crazy to drop him. Crumbing forwards don't tend to build up a mountain of possessions.

even in the SANFL they do not bounce back anymore :D

So you would bring in James Sellar to play as a ruckman?

Or would you have him as the sole big man whist Kenny McGregor was in the ruck and Griffin was resting?

Yes the combo was good yesterday but with a suspect knee injury I would like to see some caution being displayed.
