Roast So, when does Burgess start getting some scrutiny?

That's actually a good point. To now be lower-end of the league having enjoyed a full preseason, while ETA 5 Star Burton has the Crows looking like we did circa 2014 off a fortnight or more less prep is unacceptable.

Only a "they'll freshen right up in time for the run-in" push for top-4 justifies his wages, if we're the ruthless club we were and not the sentimental mediocrity-hub we've been for a decade.

I'm still hopeful that the plan is to let everyone else burn out and us keep the same pace, which will look like we are super human by the end of the season - kind of like Days of Thunder: "I'm not going faster, Harry. Everyone else is just going slower."

It's a risk but if it works out...

He's run his race and lost. Get Andrew Russell back
When I think of Andrew Russell I think of Bare Naked Ladies' song from the early 1990's - but I'd only spend it on one thing though.

This is literally the only thing that is giving me any hope for the season ahead. Trusting that Burgess has an ace up his sleeve

Usually we dominate on the dry flat tracks, lose momentum in the winter slog and then pick it up again near the end.

That was the Carl Lewis theory, I will decelerate slower than everyone else once I hit peak speed at 60m mark and I will run over the top of them by the time we get to the finish line. That's what Lewis did all his career, he didn't accelerate at the end, he decelerated less than the others just after the halfway point. This is also what Bolt does, but unlike Lewis did, he tends to be in front at the 60m mark an the gap just increases. We aren't Lewis or Bolt with better deceleration, even though we aren't the quickest over the first quarter of the race like those two, compared to the rest of the field.

Those injuries keep mounting. Time to bump again. Do we need to get Birdbrain over here, or those sleep rooms, or look at the Alberton oval surface?

Matthew Lobbe – knee Not Burgo's fault
Chad Wingard – concussion (assess) Not Burgo's fault
Alipate Carlile – wrist (2-3 weeks) Not Burgo's fault
Will Snelling – foot (indefinite) Not Burgo's fault
Jay Schulz – back (indefinite) Not Burgo's fault
Matt White - pectoral (indefinite) Not Burgo's fault

Then there are the hamstrings. We've had three this year. If you check most other teams I'd say they have had about the same.

Yeah, you are probably right but what about the feet? Clurey, (Polec last year) Wingard's (only rumoured at this stage)foot hot spot? Frampton? Is it the oval surface then?

Injuries are a part of sport.

They happen to everyone no matter who is in charge

As an example

Western Bulldogs

Tom Boyd, Shoulder, 2-3 weeks
Caleb Daniel, Calf, 1-2 weeks
Nathan Hrovat, Ankle, 3-5 weeks
Jason Johannisen, Hamstring, 9 weeks
Robert Murphy, Knee, Season
Josh Prudden, Knee, Season
Clay Smith, Knee, Indefinite
Roarke Smith, Knee, Indefinite
Matt Suckling, Ankle. 4 weeks

Ok. Yeah, guess it's just annoying that our club is the main sufferer of injuries in this state over the past 2 years. When will it improve?

Collision injuries have nothing to do with the fitness department. That's sport and bad luck.

Hamstrings, calfs and groins ie OP type groin injuries, are dependent on the fitness department monitoring players to make sure they dont push it too far. They play an important role.

Wear and tear injuries like knees, ankles and shoulders are a mix of both bad luck after collisions and good or bad monitoring by the fitness staff. What Andrew Russell has done for Shaun Burgoyne's knee has been marvelous to get so many extra games out of him. Same with Steven Schwert and what he did for monitoring Andrew McLeod's knee.

Yep you make a good case,

I will retract my uneducated opinion.

Nah not uneducated, just not looking at the full 360 degrees. That's why having a decent fitness and medical department is critical to the overall success of a club, but you cant hang everything on them.

Our performance against the Tigers is a tick for him IMO. Our players haven't lost the physical ability to run hard, get numbers to contests and support each other. They just ... weren't. It's really hard to explain.

Psychological. If you feel like you're carrying dead weight that feels like they don't have to chase back, you won't chase back either. Gray is notorious for not really bothering to track back and defend, which is why he won't win a Brownlow until he does. Lobbe was too concerned about getting injured and never really pushed himself, which is a little ironic given the circumstances.

Those two will have an opportunity over the next few weeks to get their head space right and start sacrificing for the team instead of just themselves. I know their selfishness is done with the best intentions, but it's far easier to carry a burden across many shoulders than just one or two. As Guillermo Amor said last night: "The team is the most important thing. When you have a strong team, it makes things easier. If you're trying to rely on individual players, it's very difficult."

I don't believe it's that difficult to explain... If a player isn't 100% confident they're doing what they're supposed to, they're not going to go 100% at it.

Not blaming Burgo for our bad run of injuries but the pre season running on hard surfaces does worry me, as far as the lower leg and foot injuries are concerned.
