I have always thought the guitar riff in the Holy Grail sounds awfully similar to the other song below:

I never really use this riff in these discussions.

They are merely takes on what we used to call 'The Wild Thing' riff.

I forget how many bands have use it, but heres a couple of pretty well known bands ripping it off in some way.....

Admittedly Nirvana's use of it sounds more like the Goodies 'Wild Thing' than The Troggs 'Wild Thing' :D

i've thought, since hearing, the John Butler Trio song "wrong way" and Barenaked Ladies "one week" have the same sound about them. Not a riff, or the drums....just the vibe.

After all, its all about the vibe!!

Which are rip offs of this....

I actually think the riff from Bohemian Like You sounds more like Jumpin Jack Flash than it does Brown Sugar.

Great point about the Wild Thing riff though, it's been recycled in so many different ways.

I don't think we can be too bitter about this kind of thing, as obviously one of the limitations of rock music is that it's quite simple structurally, plus most of the best riffs have already been written.

If it's just a riff that's been used I don't mind as long as the vocals are different. Soul Kitchen/Walking on the Sun and "I Wanna Be Your Dog" (Iggy Pop) / "List of Demands" (Saul Williams) are two examples where I ignore the blatant borrowing of the riff because of the overall quality of the song.

itunes on random play from my entire library, just put mambo #5 and limbo rock on after one another. It's the same song!

Most likely they've both just 'sampled' the original song from 1940s, but you could almost just use alternate lyrics to change to the other.
