i've thought, since hearing, the John Butler Trio song "wrong way" and Barenaked Ladies "one week" have the same sound about them. Not a riff, or the drums....just the vibe.
After all, its all about the vibe!!

If it's just a riff that's been used I don't mind as long as the vocals are different. Soul Kitchen/Walking on the Sun and "I Wanna Be Your Dog" (Iggy Pop) / "List of Demands" (Saul Williams) are two examples where I ignore the blatant borrowing of the riff because of the overall quality of the song.
