Not all of us can live off priority pick handouts via academy picks.
Ironic, when Melbourne received three priority picks at the top of the first round, including the most recent one.

Talent isnt there problem, constantly having a list of players who wanna leave is. Why do they think having mates together will make any ******* difference?
Because it does? Brisbane once had this problem, and recruiting some players who were mates already was a big help in stopping that trend.

The Suns should pick either Darwin or Hobart for their home ground.
They are playing a game in Darwin next year actually.

They should of copped a 5 year exemption from PP’s as soon as they spent a #2 pick on Lachie Weller.
Oh yeah, that would really help the problem. You are aware they sacked the guy responsible for that, right? Except he traded all their picks to West Coast too, right before going there himself.

He has a right to be why is fair to screw over one struggling club to prop up another?
Melbourne still has one of the best lists in the competition, just a bad run with injuries etc as we've seen.

They are not a "struggling club" when they were essentially a contender as recently as 2018 lol.

GCS have never made the finals. They need a reboot like GWS got, even with the first 5 picks I don't know if that'd be enough.

What a joke.

Melbourne and its supporters woukd have every right to be furious if they are given pick 1.

How many more careers are going to be screwedby this basket case. Sending them even more kids aint going fix jack.

Watching Lynch dominate just highlights it. He wasted 7 years up there, had he been drafted to one of the other 17 clubs, we might already be talking about him as an all time fwd.

There’s not a lot to suggest coming to Melbourne would be a lot better. We will find out in early 2020 if our 2018 or 2019 form is mote reflective of who we are.

How are Melbourne being screwed over being bumped down one slot in the draft after making a Prelim Final last year ? You are being way overdramatic.
They were the 2nd worst team in the AFL this year, this means they should be getting the number 2 pick.

If the Suns need assistance give them an end of first round pick after every other club has had a chance to make a selection.

Ellis is decent maturity

We’ve heard this about many Gold Coast players over the years, and they’ve either been too old, not good enough or regress when made to take on extra responsibility.

It’s amazing some can’t see the difference between Lyons giving little effort in a mediocre Suns team, and actively trying in a finals-bound, stacked Brisbane midfield. Super conditional.

They’d be much better getting their equivalent of Ward, Davis and Scully: young self-starters with talent and low floors.

Hawthorn fan moaning about Priotity Picks. Laughable really.

3 in >20 years allocated to poorly performed teams under the same rules applied to the entire league vs multiple selections available every year regardless of ladder position. Yep really comparable.

Both their first round picks should have to be traded for established players. Clearly GC cannot develop players. Rowell and Anderson will just end up bags of crap like the rest of the GC first rd picks.

Says a Swans fan whose team has been propped up by their AFL Sugar Daddies for many years.

Extremely comparable, yes. Your club ought to pay back what they received before whinging about another club receiving a high priority pick.

That's a question I was asking when Melbourne were gifted two first round picks for Tom Scully.

Yes that trade ban was the AFL looking after the Swans.

Yeah cause that really cancels out COLA and getting Mills, Heeney and Blakey via the Academy ?.

If they're forced to trade their picks, this would provide the perfect opportunity for other clubs to really screw them over - they would be lucky to get the equivalent of 2nd round value players (like Weller) in return for their picks 1 & 2, because true elite level players would simply refuse to be traded there.

Thus, the compulsory trade idea idea sounds good at first, but would only make their situation worse.

It’s not just about picking good players, it’s about picking good players with the right temperament in a developing team. Unfortunately they’re only starting to realise this after taking on talented first-round picks who didn’t have to drive to get the best out of themselves: Bennell, Gorringe, Scrimshaw, Martin etc.

Anderson and Rowell are both hard-working guys who likely develop into very good players regardless where they are drafted, and them getting picked up together gives them more impetus to succeed.

You make it sound like this is the first time in many many years that Melbourne have had a good draft pick
We played finals last year, so yes, for us it’s a long time in between top picks

#1 Priority pick this year.

About 10 NGA/Acadamy players in the top 20 next year, including the likely #1 pick.

Oh joy.

The AFL's really good at this.

You had two top 10 picks in 2015 - really not that long ago. You would have had a pick in 2016 if you hadn’t (rightly) brought in Weideman.

In 2017 you used multiple first round picks to bring Lever in.

You definitely haven’t lacked early picks in recent times.

Anderson’s dad a former St Kilda player and currently on the St Kilda board
