T20 World Cup Day 20 4/11. Australia v Afghanistan 1830hrs @ Adelaide Oval

Cricket is supposed to be the number 2 sport on the planet, behind Soccer.
Outside of the passionate Asian fans that scream for there teams. It just doesn't have a World Cup vibe about it.
Maby every two years for the T20 World Cup.I know we had COVID catch up with two tournaments in two years.
As for the Aussies we look a long way of the big 4 nations in the WC.India,SA,NZ+the Poms.
Our fielders look old and slow by T20 international standards. We have less batting and bowling options and don't use T20 specialists. And look tactically inferior with constant selection head scratching decisions.
This current Australian cricket structure could move into our test performances. With a young hungry West Indies and an Ashes smacking.
Time for the senior players to allow the coaches to run the show. And get there head down and backside up.Theres plenty of young players waiting there turn.If the senior players won't comply .Pay out there contracts and show them the door.

Could be an option

Or alternatively they can look at Warner who has also been talked about having the best tactical brain in aussie cricket by his fellow peers....Retire Warner from tests and let him play t20..another option

I do find it ironic though that we have all jumped aboard the maxi train..you do understand that was basically Maxis first contribution for about two years in the t20 scene....his recent record has been average and he did not really contribute to last years World Cup

Last night if maxi got out cheaply which he has done lately....the talk would all be about dropping him

People only see what's in front of them i guess

well T20 is a fickle game.

I just checked this and it's legit. How does this happen?

That 3-run overthrow must've really thrown the umpire...
Maybe we shouldnt blame the umpires and put a bit of blame on the TV producers. This was their scorecard:

Im assuming the umpires probably glanced at the scoreboard. That 2 should have been a 3, and that 3 should have been a dot ball, with a 6th ball to come.

I only just realized that we play a ODI series against England after this WC, with one being at AO. There’s been zero advertising for the series.

I didn’t even realise that. I knew about the test series with the West Indies because 7 (who don’t have the rights to the T20 WC), are already plugging it

The garbage being put by our coaches etc is laughable.
Vettori "Kane was unlucky in his first over and missed his mark in the last two. Other than that, we got what we expected".
Ok, 1-48....

People saying our batting was Ok on a "tricky" surface.
We were at least 20 runs short of where we should've been.

George Bailey's position should be under question.
Three replacements and they all failed.

Agar has an economy rate of under 7 and continually gets overlooked for pace bowlers who get hammered.

Questions need to be asked.
Selection was horrific! No Stark being the biggest blunder, his pace would’ve worried the Afghans, as for the batting, time for a complete rethink regarding T20 cricket IMO, park cricketers matched our batsmen in this tournament.

Even Stuart Broad couldn't understand why Australia left Starc out of their team last night and he was probably hoping Australia lost to help England.

“Just flicked on T20 World Cup. #AUSvsAFG. Why No Mitch Starc for Aus?” he said.

“Have we disagreed before? Please tell me Starc injured. He’s a beast in this format, wicket taker, game changer. Must win game? You want them.”

Don't cricket umpires use clickers to track the number of balls in an over?

If I'm CA I'm giving Maxwell the captaincy for 2 years til the next world cup and a 'blank canvas' where he can make adjustments that he deems necessary. Would probably be the best T20 brain in the country.

Might be lucky to still be in the team in two years. He has been in the side on reputation and lack of other options.

Having said he would be a better options to Captain than others.

T20 "cricket" is designed for the non-cricket follower. It's a passing fad. I give it another 10 years, tops.
Lmfao. In what logic does a non cricket follower follow any cricket?
What is a true cricket follower? Sitting in front of a computer, eating Doritos and calling international players hacks, spuds and crabs? Interesting concept.

Let’s see what the crowds are like for the West Indies Test series?

Shield figures are going through the roof, the real cricket follower can’t seem to get enough of that stuff.

Most nations don’t even really want to play Test Cricket anymore.

Personally I prefer Test Cricket, but T20 is still great. Just because grumpy old white Australian men don’t like it, hardly qualifies it as a fad.

Fair to say there are alot of players in this Australian T20 team living on reputation. This World Cup on home soil has left them found wanting.

Anyway Fox Cricket are predicting this team on their social media feed for 2024:

Phillipe
Inglis
McDermott
Mitch Marsh (Captain)
Maxwell
Green
David
Ashton Agar
Jhye Richardson
Zampa
Hazlewood

That team has a large Perth Scorcher/WA basis. Stoinis and Ellis would be harsh to miss that team. But if its a fast bowlers deck, you would swap Agar for Ellis.

What I like about that team is that it has a fresh look about all be it alot of the same names. Hopefully in the next few years we can see the emergence of a few younger players who are t20 specialists who could join that team.

I know he had an okay tournament but I'd be loving on from Stoinis. Lucky to still be in the team now and he will be 35 by then.

I heard Travis Head say the other day he feels he doesn't have a consistent pathway to push for t20 selection. He misses most of the big bash because of Test Cricket and doesn't tend to play the other tournaments around the world.

He said the selectors then tend to just go with the regulars as they don't know what others are capable off.

Before everyone comes at me to say Head shouldn't be in the team anyway, I think there is some truth that the pathway to T20 cricket is a bit undefined here.

Especially when compared to the 25,000 on a Tuesday night to see Australia vs "Group A Qualifier" in Perth.

A crowd which everyone ripped into to.
I'm a SACA member and I confess, a cricket traditionalist. Not a big fan of 20/20 but I will be there for all 5 days of the test match in December

My SACA membership costs me $400 per year which didnt include any of the T20 world cup games and I was not going to fork out any more $$$ to go. I reckon this kept a lot of the SACA members away...

I assume this is the same throughout the country (i.e. MCC members had to pay to attend) as it is an ICC event?

Stoinis won't be there in 2 years IMO.
Will be 35.
Time to move on.

I hope to Christ MM isn't captain.
Carey for Inglis maybe.

Question marks over McDermott and to a lesser extent Phillipe at the next level.
Time will tell I guess.

I agree with Head.
Inglis is in the same boat.

Continually in the squads and hardly gets a game.

This was the case for all venues.

On the bright side, it meant those sitting in the Western Stand actually participated in the Mexican Wave :D

I dont like Mitch Marsh personally as a person but that's another topic in itself.

What exact reason wouldn't you have MM as captain?

Do you think him bowling and batting will affect his decision making in a game? He is the sort of player I feel if given captaincy it may burden his game.

Exactly what you said.

Mitch is a see ball hit ball type of cricketer.
The last thing you want us him thinking about bowling changes and run rates.

Just let him bat.
