My hope is Riewoldt has to come and get the kick in from the Aints backline on a fairly consistent basis - if that's occurring, then 2 benefits:

1) Our forward pressure is really making it hard for the Saints to get a kick in to a target
2) Riewoldt is 100m from his own goals, and we can hold them up.

Could the Zone Backfire on us?

I been watching all the Footy shows this week and all I am hearing is how the Aints have to do to beat us and they say they have do to beat us and they say if they get Through the Zone we can be easy to score on.

I am worried about this as the Lions did with us when they Knocked us Off by Denying us use of the Footy by playing Kick to Kick until they can get it into there Forward Line.

Who Else is Worried?

That's a massive if, Dave. And the Lions game was just a fluke - it counts for nothing now.

We won't fail this time. The boys are so ready and so resolute that they'd have to deliberately throw this game for us not to win the flag.

Settle down and enjoy the build-up.

I think Shawthing is on the money and seems more often than not to be.

The things we did well against Geelong was our pressure, but the other area which has gone fairly unnoticed has been our ball movement. The ball movement against Geelong was supurb and in 3-4 posessions we could pretty comfortably at times go end to end. I recall a Ben Reid 55m kick down the centre to an open target from back in the defensive 50. It was consistantly quick and accurate ball movement. With a strong start I think we can replicate.

If we can pressure and move the ball like we did against Geelong as well as win the midfield battle we will win.

Winning the midfield battle will go a long way towards "beating Riewoldt" and I'm confident the club has the right approach to taking him and St Kilda on.

The dangermen for mine are Milne and Schneider who will both be very lively.

My tip is a win. 17 points.

Yeah Milne and Espically Schneider who has played well against us could hold the Key for the Saints.

Remember what happend in the NAB Cup Game

Agree fully there... we must cover them.

I feel by bringing in Neon it will creat a headache for the Saints

No Dave, I don't remember what happened in the pre season game, in fact I couldn't even tell you what the result was, let alone who beat our reserves team that day.

StKilda has beaten us once this year (Round 3) and we have beaten them once (round 16), and that's the only form you can look at for this game, as anything else was either a practice match or was a completely different Collingwood team.

StKilda's "threats" to us haven't changed, but Milne has never been one of them, as long as Ben Johnson is fit and in the side.

Harry can take Schneider, it would be a perfect matchup IMO.

I'm more concerned about their "elite" players in Hayes, Riewoldt, Goddard and Montagna.

Shaw took Schneider in Round 16. Schneider dragged him up the ground and Shaw ended up kicking 2 goals because of it. Great tactical nous there Rossy :o

Big Game Players...

We Drafted just for this Reason just for this sort of game and they are Steele Sidebottom and Dale Thomas after there great GF Games.

Daisy's 4 Goals and Spectitcal Marks and Goals

Sidbeottom 10 Goals and total Domination of the GF.

Time to show us why you are Big Game Players Boys

Gardiner as a smokey might cause some issues too in the forward line. We have to be careful about this but our defenders getting over to cover each other should have it covered.

Show's what a great season we've had when we are discussing the couple of games we lost.

I noticed in the lions game that we were miles in front (then either they got fired up or we took our foot off) but they started winning all the centre clearances, Black was on fire as it was his 200th or something and they repeatedly got the ball out then one kick to the flasher or Brown who were one on one then goal. Same thing happened in that non event game in round 22 towards the end, quick win in the centre and kick on to Rioli or Buddy.

I don't think this was a winning tactic by either team that will work on Sat, I think we were resting our mids??

That was at their home ground under a roof ;)

and we now have more mobile backman who can stick with them with pace for the ground and easily out mark them in the air

True, but I will back Jolly and Leeroy to be more dangerous when they go forward then both Gardiner and McEvoy will be, which just gives us another advantage.

Also

In the first st kilda game when Nick did his hammie we were still developing as a team and lost primarily by poor scoring, a result I believe due to great pressure as much as poor kicking.

We were actually doing really well until the Nick incident then saints got fired up and this is the side that I am expecting to see on Sat. They kept possession of the ball at all costs until a convienant time to break out of the zone and have acres of space to run in.

Can somebody do an ins and outs compared to that game, would be interested in JA, Leroy, Fraser, Lockeyer, etc. I beleived we have developed a lot since then and the same tactics will keep scores low but it wont be enough

Harry will go on Schneider and I think he will do a very good job on him. I can understand why you some of you are nervious, its a GF but seriously there was more to fear about playing Geelong then there is playing Stkilda this week. They will try and chip the ball around their deffence and control the game. They wont be allowed to do that, we are the number one ranked side for forward tackles and preasure in the AFL. As long as we convert well we will win. As much as people say they will be using last year as motivation they can use it as much as they want. They dont have the gameplan to beat, Its a joke how all these experts on shows try and find a way of beating us, they are bloody crapping themselves.

MCG is a larger ground and if played at Etihad it would certainly be played more so on their terms.

It's not a huge consideration, but it can change things. The MCG being so wide does play very much into our hands.

Just hope the Players don't take the Saints any easier than the Cats

Thats it, as long as we go out fired up like we did against the Cats we should have them. Its a GF so I am expecting them to play better if anything. I just hope we kick quick goals against the Saints in the 1st quter and get to a very good start, the best way to put preasure on their deffence and team is scoreboard preasure and get them to panic. Just like theh 1st quter last week.

Good point Dave, we certainly draft with a thought towards players who can perform on the big stage.

The other thing is, people (opposition supporers) keep raving on about how our young blokes will get overawed on the big stage, they neglect to consider we play on the big stage, in front of massive crowds nearly every week. Beams, Sidey, Macaffer, Dawes etc have already proven they can stand up in front of 95k of screaming fans on the MCG, this will probably be an easy one for them this week considering only about 65k of people there are actually fans, the rest are corporates who won't make a sound!

If the boys with <50 games experienced didn't get overawed last week in front of that massive crowd, they never will :thumbsu:

Agree a Quick Start is what the Doctor Ordered and would make them play into our Hands but not Mucking Around too Much as I think if they get the Early Lead they will just try and Play Kick to Kick for the Rest of the Game and Try and Frustrate us

Spot On Anzac Day is just about Big as Crowd you would get on GF Day and we average against Vic Sides 70k +

God I hope they do that, they dont have the skill to do that against us. Dawson and Dempster add Gwilt as well. They or Ok but if you put preasure aginst them they will turn it over. I hope Eddy plays as well.
