Jamar, Riley and Michie the only ones who have good looking stats there, strangely.

Spencer's 60 hit outs is good as well.

Can't see Gawn being dropped after another great game though.

Selection headaches this week..

Would love for the club to get some replays of the Casey games up on the site :(

Looking at the stat sheet you would assume the following:

Grimes - definite in.
Michie - two solid weeks in a row, possible in.
Newton - good tackle numbers the past two weeks, possible in.
Jamar - another great game pal but you're not coming in.

Thing about Michies game is he only laid 2 tackles in a game where Grimes and Mckenzie had 29

Also is that Lucas Cook with 5 touches for the match? Re Draft him?

Nah, he's at Ballarat.

He virtually only played 3/4 yesterday. Was off for the last 25 minutes with his ankle in ice. His role is an outlet player to use a basketball term so you dont want hin tackling. He has 7 tackles in a half against Richmond this year so knows how. I would like to see him go forward more but when in the 1sts he never goes in the forward 50. Probably a team thing but at Casey has no such restrictions and kicks goals. Not everyone needs to be tackling.

Why don't we bring Jamar in to play FF. I know people have stamped his papers...which totally worked in 07-10 so go on and do it to another club legend...but he'd actually kick a few, clunk a few and not stand in Hogan's space.

I wouldn't have a huge problem if Jamar came in for Dawes.

Gawn and Jamar could share ruck and deep forward duties, and Hogan at CHF.

I'm not sure if selection committee have the balls to drop Dawes though.

I'd like to see Michie given a game and kept in the side for as long as possible, even if he has an off game, give him another chance to get consistency.

I agree. He had four games in a row last year at the end of the season and was developing nicely. This year its been 1 in 1 out. His disposal, apart from the last game is very good and he gets the ball and gets it inside the 50. He needs to be given a chance to settle in to the side and build some confidence. Has been terrific at Casey and has the skill to make it.

Thing about Michie is who goes out? We have already dropped almost every single outside type we have
One of the reasons essendon beat us is we picked 17 inside midfielders

Yea they do , that's modern footy
Everyone needs to be contributing defensively

Agree on the need for every player to have a strong defensive side. But if you have the ball you can't be tackling. Michie had the ball 30 odd times in just on 3/4 of the game and provided the outlet on many occasions. As I said his half a game against Richmond showed he can tackle and tackle well.

This particular game was one long rolling maul. Watch the replay on the clubs website. Most of the tackles resulted in another tackle as the umpires did the right thing in the conditions and allowed the game to go on. There were over 200 stoppages and ruck contests which resulted in a game that looked a lot like an under 10's game. The 3rd quarter in particular. I will be interested in the match report and coaches assessment of players. Personally I don't think there is much you can take away from it because of the conditions but every player was fully committed.

FWIW I reckon the difference between the Bulldogs this year and last year is the fact that they have a much better balance between attack and defence this year than last year under MacCartney. Macca wanted them to "crack in and tackle" which left no one to clear it. This year they are good at the defensive side and have improvedd their run and carry which has seen them shoot up the ladder. Only my two cents.

Let me preface this by saying that I didn't see the Casey game so I don't know what role he was playing, but Jimmy T's numbers are concerning. 9 tackles is great, though it was reportedly a tacklefest all day, but 10 possessions for a guy who was coming of an extended run at AFL level?

We only had 3 guys get over 20 possessions, and very few marks were taken, so it was obviously a slogfest with no outside footy.

Would be nice to see him with a few more possessions, but I'm comfortable with 9 tackles. It clearly wasn't a day for an outside runner.

He may have had a tagging role for a while as well - I didn't see the game either.

Sounds likely. I don't think he'd be a player with any issues winning the ball when he wants to (at least at VFL level). It's likely that when he doesn't in the seconds he's been given a very specific role to play, possibly because even when he does win a lot of the ball he doesn't have a hell of a lot of impact on the contest.
