Ground isn't up to it, trust me. It's a sandpit.

Collingwood have relocated a majority of their VFL home games to the holden centre too. They still play at vic park of course, but their bulk is at the holden centre now. I think it's mainly due to redevlopment. Also as would be the case if Essendon had a side, i assume the ground might host cricket as well

Is it under redevelopment? Collingwood is playing 7 home games at Victoria Park in 2017, 1 at the MCG curtain raiser against Hawthorn and one at the Holden centre in round 18.

Yeah I know there is one stand left but according to a few sources, Ausstadiums.com and wiki it still fits 15000, 7000 at the Holden centre with no grand stands, to me that makes no sense to why Collingwood wouldn't want to play at their traditional home.
I go to a lot of our VFL games, so can offer some insight.
  • The redevelopment of the Victoria Park was completed a few years back (2012?)
  • There's still 2 stands left - Sherrin Stand (capacity 5k) and Ryder Stand (3k however coaches box have been relocated inside the stand and for televised VFL games the TV equipment takes up a row, so it's probably closer to 2k).
  • The ground was very sandy in parts for the VFL last year
  • The 'pies experimented with twilight and evening games last year as double headers to our AFL matches and less Vic Park games was simply the preference of the club
In terms of our ability to play AFLW games theres the council is reluctant to host bigger drawing matches. They knocked back our VFL final under the excuse there wasn't time to get temporary fencing etc in place, however they were also discussing having a men's preseason match at Vic Park this year way back in 2015, which the AFL was onboard, so it's likely the council knocked that back too.

Lethlean from the AFL stated the preference is to play the Collingwood Melbourne game at Victoria Park, however there's safety issues that need to be worked out and the AFL were instead looking at Princes Park.

Looking on the AFL website the transfer to Princes Park has now been confirmed, with the Carlton/GWS match moving forward 1.5 hours. Hopefully this gives enough time for the ground to empty out, otherwise they'll be a lot of disappointed Collingwood and Melbourne fans who can't get a seat.

I wish we had the idea of forming a guard of honour like Carlton did. Would have loved to seen our boys do that

I was really excited coming into this, but our women's team is so shit it's actually sapping me of excitement for the men's season.

Is following one good team seriously too much to ask for, **** me

It appears I may have unloaded a quarter early...

Beating the filth in the women's league feels as satisfying as in the men's to me.

Arguably the best win by any team so far. To come back from 19 pts down at half time and looking completely out of the game, it was a super effort by the girls. I've watched most of the ladies matches so far, and this was probably the best game I've seen thus far. Great to hear the theme song for the first time in 2017. Hopefully many more to come..

Sounds like even though we've got some really good experienced players (Daisy, Mel et al) we've got a young side on the whole, with a lot of players under 20.
They just looked like they found their feet in the second half and started playing like a team and combining much much better.
If they can keep up that level of performance, it'll be really interesting.
Agree with the poster who said it'd be good to see the men's team more involved and visible.

Losing Downie for the season is a real shame. Might be the difference between finals and not.

The game this weekend is super important too; big chance to jump into the top 4.
De Bortoli doing her achillies is terrible too. Let's hope she follows Roughies lead and comes back stronger.

Big game this weekend. The Blues will likely be sore and tired from the game against Adelaide which was a real arm wrestle.

Both teams' defences have been particularly good so far, I can see this being a tough low scoring match.

However, we set a record for disposals on the weekend (okay not that impressive 3 weeks into the history of the comp) but if we can play like we did against the Dogs I don't see why we can't win.

Any chance we play Daisy straight out of the middle this week instead of in the forward line for Q1?

Surely! I think the confidence of the girls in the forward line has come along enough that we can finally play her where she belongs now, and look out everyone else!

I'd love for us to line up Paxman-Pearce-O'Dea for the first bounce and just put the fear of god through Vescio.

Don't think Vescio will play midfield? I haven't really seen her rotate through in the games I've watched but could be wrong.

Having said that I'm still worried about her. I think we've used Clifford as the shut down defender previously but not sure of her agility; Vescio moves pretty well and can take a strong mark.
