The Suns have set on Dew

Nice bloke and has done great off field, but on field he seemingly hasn't been up to it, has had a pretty good 6 year run to get us in the mix and we look like missing yet again.

Who are his assistants? They need to carry some of that burden.

I agree, Dew has steadied the ship off-field and imo the suns are now a respected opponent even though they have ups and downs like any middle of the ladder team. They were a certified joke prior to Dew taking over.

I cant see AFL running with a bye round for a team each week myself is all. Something will give
Maybe they'll have to have a bye every week or they'll add another team not long afterwards

Participation on the Gold Coast is going damn well and their crowds have held up half decent for a team that has been shit their entire existence.
Both the the Giants and GC are there to grow the game
The Afl doesn't just give up on expansion like that, otherwise We'd have no Brisbane or Sydney in the AFL cos they largely struggled for the first 10-15 years.

I'm always gonna call out other supporters suggesting that other teams (never their own club of coursw) should fold. It's shithouse

Hardwick took 6 years to do anything at Richmond and it was less him and more that Dusty just came of age.

Hardwicks not going to do anything at Gold Coast so if that's the grand plan, this thread will just be bumped in 3-4 years rofl.
Hardwick made finals from his 3rd to 5th year as a coach though. Gold Coast didn’t make finals at all in the 6 years Dew was coach.

Think Hardwick would be a solid appointment for Gold Coast. He’s a decent matchday coach and could take them to finals as early as next year with the list they currently have.

I've seen a bunch of people online saying it's a short sighted and bad decision when Gold Coast are close to finals.

They should have been close 2 years ago, you can't be a senior coach in football and not make finals for 6 years, I'd even argue if you become coach and don't make finals within 3-4 seasons you're a failure of a coach, 3 years is plenty of time to get the team playing the style of footy you want.

Long time coming.

There was a big assistant turnover last year with the likes of Steven King coming in from the Dogs.

FWIW Craig Cameron should also be moved on ASAP with some of list bungles he has overseen.

Not to mention the Bowes/Pick 7 thing. And over paying for hacks like Ellis and Atkins.

When you are not a destination club you need to overpay to attract and retain players.

Any chance this is the beginning of the club being wound up? In reality someone has to go to make way for Tasmania and out of the 2 of GWS and Gold Coast, Gold Coast makes the most sense in the long term
Not with how well their academy is going in producing talent.

Literally the whole point of the club.

The assistants will only be there till the end of season the new coach will have his own people

Gold Coasts problems are far more serious than the on field team.

Hardwick certainly is a good coach, but he is going to fix the suns issues soon? no.

yeah. Kinda sucks for Dew

they’re going to load up on genuinely elite kids this year and the next coach is going to look like a genius

In 2019 they traded their 2020 priority pick (11), a pick that AFL handed as compensation to help with the rebuild + pick 64 for Geelong's pick 27.

Out of those two trades alone, Gold Coast has handed Geelong got pick 7, 11 and Bowes for pick 27.

Their recruiting and management is hopeless.

Their list management has been atrocious since their inception.
It was always going to be downhill from the start when they first appointed Scott Clayton way back when.

Agreed, sick to death of it, especially when this guy's own club is not even state league standard

We know its being discussed in the backgrounds. Ignoring it seems rather silly.

You dont think the topic of moving Gold Coast to Tasmania hasnt come up in AFL HQ?

I mean why pretend it isnt discussed cos some it will hurt peoples feelings?
