Is anyone else pumped for this? As the sequel to my favorite game of 2007 (and one of the best RPG's I've ever played), I personally can't wait. Hopefully the dark feel of the original's story and the feeling of hopelessness that permeated throughout it (something I was hoping would be replicated in DA:O, but which fell a little short) is retained and the combat system is improved. From the looks of the trailer, the graphics have been improved greatly although I'm not really digging Geralt's new hairdo.

Anyway, it'll be on PC early next year (they are interested in a console release, but if it happens it will be some time after the PC release) and is already my most eagerly anticipated game:)

Hopefully it get's picked up for consoles as it looks pretty good.

The first one didn't get a go on consoles due to a lack of funding and the devs want the 2nd on consoles but need a publisher. You'd think with fairly good reviews for the "Enhanced Edition" that was released there'd be someone out there that'll pick this up.

It's was kind of old school in a sense, but as I was playing the original I couldn't help but think the fighting would have felt better with a controller. It would've made a great console game, and I'll be surprised if a pub didn't pick it up. Considering it was their debut, and how good it was, these guys may turn out to be the next Bioware.

One of the best RPGS I have played, loved the fighting mechanic and the story, the sequel can only be an improvement on the original(fingers crossed) so it is a definite buy

Take the amazing story, setting, and genuinely mature, gritty take on fantasy from the original (The Witcher was much closer in tone to Conan and A Song of Ice and Fire than Lord of the Rings and similar high fantasy) and add it to the above, and I think it's safe to say that this game is heading towards legendary status in the genre. It's just stunning, and is making Dragon Age 2 look second rate in every way, imo. If no publishers step forth to try to get a deal to get this onto the consoles, then there is something seriously messed up with the gaming world. As for now, it's being built from the ground up with the PC in mind, and it shows.

edit: It's the OP, by the way. Having a few difficulties with my old account :)

LOL I wondered who the **** this n00b was.

Stuff looks incredible. I love that they want to make it a truly dynamic world, something that has never really been seen in any game before. Also love the visual differences between places too, going from bright and colourful to dense and dark (but still with amazing visual flare) creates a wonderful artistic style and contrast.

The dialogue is a bit shitty though, very much a situation of a non-natural English speaking developer trying to do proper English dialogue and it rarely works.

It would seem that there could very well be a console's version coming. With Metropolis Software House developing in conjunction with CD Projekt, despite the fact that it won't look close to the PC version, it would still be fantastic to get on PS3.

This game is going to be amazing.

CD Project said there's no PS3/360 version and they're spending all their time on working on the master PC version.

I hope Witcher 1 goes on sale again soon.

Edited, although only slightly.

A spokesman from Namco-Bandai told GamePron:
The modification was a small change we requested the developer to make to one scene during one the games side quests.

In the original version your character Geralt was given the choice of accepting sex ‘as a reward’ for successfully completing this particular side quest. The Australian Classification Board originally refused classification as they deemed the inclusion of ‘sex as a reward’ as not suitable for an MA15+ classification.

The change is only minor, in that the character choice is now made automatically for him. The character and the side quest are still in the game but presented in a slightly different context. No other changes have been made and this change has no impact on gameplay, storyline or character development.

Proof positive that the OFLC is batshit crazy.

"This will not do, we're going to make you have sex with that peasant girl whether you like it or not!"

Could hardly care less about censorship that minor. I'm probably the only big gamer around (well, not as big as I used to be) who agrees with at least some censorship.

I loved the first one but never finished it because I think school or uni restarted while I was about half way through it. May have to crack it out again before the sequel.

Official word from CD Projekt on Witcher 2 for consoles.

Looks like it'll come eventually.:thumbsu:

Gop says nothing has begun yet, insisting it’ll wait until the launch of the PC version next month before formally looking into a console version.

“Production wise – coordination and scheduling and budgeting – this is a new project for us. But it’s not going to be a completely different game: it’s going to be the same storyline and everything,” he told.

“I can already promise you that if we’re going to do this on consoles it’s not going to look like crap, definitely.

“We’re definitely not a team that can do multiple projects at the same time. We’re warily not doing it this way because it might compromise the quality of the first PC release.”

“So no, no no no, we are not in full-scale development on the console version of the Witcher 2 right now. There were tests like a proof of concept, so we at least know that it’s doable, possible. But we are not fully producing the game right now. Nuh-uh.”

In a few days you can get a DRM free version from GOG.com for $4.99 US. Includes soundtrack and other extras too.

http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/the_witcher

FWIW, you can also pre-order The Witcher 2 (DRM free) from the same place with some extras and a free game, and if you pay the Aussie retail pre-order price $62.99 ($26 more than the US price), you get $26 in store credit to help make up for us being ripped off by the Aussie distributor :thumbsu: - unless you can bypass the redirect and just buy the US version ;)

GOG.com is run by CD Projekt, so the money goes straight to back to the devs I believe.

Is the Witcher 1 worth playing at this point? How has it aged?

Can't wait to see how this runs on my new PC, some of these screenshots make it look like 'next gen' is already here

Pre-ordered this on Steam ($45 in Jan), then heard about the GOG busienss so got steam pre-order refunded last night and bought on GOG for $44USD ($42 AUD :)) after setting my profile to the US.

Got the game for cheaper, DRM free, uncensored and money goes straight into CDprojekts pockets...can't complain about that. Can't wait to get home from work today and play it!

Did not really get into the first game as Geralt isn't the kind of person i like to roleplay as, plus the opening level didn't interest me much. Plus, it was a few years after release before I played it.

Really looking forward to having a crack at part 2 though. Looks good, has gamepad support, and the retail version has some pretty nifty little trinkets to keep me amused during installation. Trinkets!*

Now, I just hope my girly computer can run it at a decent lick of speed. To be honest I'll be pleased if it loads up at all...

*also, the game promises to have irrelevant naked women woven clumsily into the plot, making it a must for the connoisseur of the shonky boobs genre (see also: Conan, God of War, Heavy Rain).

The GoG unlock in minutes away, apparently. I'm installing now and am eagerly anticipating playing pretty much my most wanted game since MGS2 a decade ago.

Install is taking for everrrrrrrr come on, I want to play already!!!

3 hours in and its utterly stunning visually, the writing and V.O work is top shelf and the new combat system has fixed the one major flaw of TW1.

I've gone from being 100% sure of a console W2 being on the way a few months down the track to doubting if it will be possible to pull off with acceptable results. The lighting and texture detail work in particular, just looks so damn good.

my system is struggling hard to run this on high settings, let alone dreaming of what this would look like on Ultra.

In saying that, high looks bloody awesome!!!

You might want to lower the "number of shadowed lights" option, as that, in particular, is a bit of a fps killer for what you are getting. SSAO is a good one to turn off, also.

Yes, very good looking isn't it?

I'll have to play it on pretty much the minimum settings, but i cranked it up to ultra to see what i'm missing out on. i'm missing out on a lot, haha

looking forward to spending a bit of time with it tonight. didn't play it much last night. waiting to get an xbox gamepad, i'll get more enjoyment out of the game that way.

some initial thoughts

*good looking even in low resolution, dialogue/acting seems up to scratch. speaking of dialogue, it seems to be your traditional talking heads shot reverse shot which seems a little regressive after bioware's last couple of games for instance, but isn't a big deal in the scheme of things and may even change later in the game

*looks to have a really nice sense of place and atmosphere

*time to breasts: <5 minutes

*only final fantasy people can make haircuts that aren't rubbish looking
