I don't think it's that important that it will define our season. You always want to play the best and beat the best but I would rather do this in round 20 onwards / September rather then round 9.

Given the past 2 years, the supersticious side of me wants us to lose as the eventual premier (08 & 09 at least) lost to the team they beat in the GF during the H&A season (if that makes sense).

That said, I have my ticket and once 'White Line Fever' kicks in I won't want to lose just like everyone else who loves the Pies. Will be an absolute cracker and I can't wait to see our now hardened midfield battle the class that is Geelong.

What are all your thoughts?

I just want a good, close contest. I just want to see that we can match a great side like Geelong, specially in the midfield (where we lost the game last year).

Worst that can happen is that we drop to second.

Pretty sure we'll get over it given we were 4-5 at the same time last year.

7-2 aint bad. As a matter of fact, 7-2 is what Geelong would be if they WON.

Some people need perspective.

We're not going to go 21-1 no matter how you cut it. I'd rather we be losing games to Geelong than Richmond if thats the case.

Would love a win, but a loss won't mean much in the big picture.

Exactly, 21-1 is an unrealistic expectation so losing now is better then losing later against an average side. But the flipside is we are flying and keeping that form for the whole year is better then going in cycles which is what typically happens.

Would rather win this week and rest some players next week against the Bears. We need to believe that we can match it with the best

If we can get with in 3 goals of them i would still walk away from the game happy. I dont want us to go in like we would if we played them in a granfinal i want us to have a few tricks left if we met them in the grand final.

Whilst losing won't be too bad on our ladder position however it may have an impact on our confidence.

One of the big differences in the boys at the moment is their belief in each other, the structure and the game plan.

If we get belted by the Cats on Friday we may start to question ourselves and our form may be impacted. On the flipside if we can beat Geelong then our confidence will grow again.

Agree 100% if we get Thrashed the Confidence could really fall away

If we are going to lose a few it really holds no more value whether early or late. All that matters is we win enough to lock in top 2.

I hope to god none of the players think like any of our posters.

I want Chinese for tea on Saturday night so a Cat must die Friday.

Winning on Friday would provide an important psychological boost for future encounters with Geelong.

I'm tipping a very close content, margin within 20 points at the end.

Yeah but we play each other again in Round 19 so it doesn't really apply.

Correct. That's why we should hit hard now when we have the chance.

Who knows a win here or loss there could be the difference between Geelong getting 2nd or 3rd to Freo at the end of the year.

Sure I reckon we're much more likely to have to travel to Freo in the finals than the Cats ever will be, but you can't underestimate the power of a few well timed results.

I have no doubt we can win this game, but at this point in the season I'm more looking forward to how we play against these guys not the end result.

You don't want this! If i recall correctly the last team that did this got rolled on GF day!

Win the game. Win as many now so we can rest who we need to rest later on in the year and rotate how we need to rotate to keep everyone fresh and give everyone some gametime.

I belive our season was defined by the inaccurate kicking loss to the Saints. That would have burnt them up. Along with the saga that followed with Micks's comments.

WOW, I can't believe some of the comments.
Who in their right mind would not want to win this Friday.

I want the pies to win EVERY game, I want them to THUMP every team, every week!!! If most supporters aren't thinking the same thing, I would be pretty surprised.

And this, "we're gonna lose anyway, might as well lose now" is absolute rubbish.
I would much rather we beat every team in the top 8 easily, and lose to the shit teams. If we lose to the bottom teams, we can call it a bad day, and we don't need to worry about them in the finals anyway.
But if we lose to the top teams, then we simply aren't good enough, and that actually means something if we face them in finals!!!!!!

And going 22-0 in a season IS NOT detrimental to a premiership in any way!

Actually shocked at some of the things people come up with....

That's totally absurd, and you know it.
Which supporter would not love their team winning 22 straight games?

And it has absolutely no affect on grand final performance, Geelong lost for other reasons!
And the saints lost by a kick for goodness sakes. If anyone can blame losing a grand final by one kick, because of winning 20 games in the season, they're delusional.

IF it's an evenly matched game it won't make much difference except for the 4 points (which are gold obviously).
If we thrash Geelong that will just make them better, whereas if the young woods team get thrashed it might dent their belief quite a bit. Might be a good thing, since that's important to develop that solidness that Geelong have where you know a thrashing is not going to phase them.

Having said that, I'm still hoping for a 10 goal trashing of Geelong.
They have that rolls-royce coolness and ability to create time and make it look easy, like a whole team of Pendleburys (like Carlton in the 80's, Coasters in the 90's and 3-peat Lions). Interesting to see if we can smash their headlights and pour sugar in their 12 cylinder super-tuned engine. Collingwood aren't exactly an FJ holden anymore either.

I have to agree.
I want a win and hope the club is primed for it.
I certainly can't see any downside to a win and "links" to past winners of blockbusters and grand final losses are superstitious crap.
Freo were 2nd on the ladder last week and have as much right to assume they could be the "other side" in a GF this year....does this mean we will lose to them if we make it?

The whole thing is a crock.
As to thrashing the Cats, well if it is possible then it can only be a good thing.

I think a lot of people are mentally preparing for a loss with a lot of arse covering. If we lose we lose because Geelong are a better side, if we win then it's pretty obvious we are a better side...on the day.

That said we will not lose as I still have not washed my lucky undies.:thumbsu::D

Go Pies.:thumbsu:

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to win (moreso now I know we are playing them again so my supersticious side is satisfied)... :P

Seriously though, it isn't the beall and endall as some media / supporters are making it out to be. I would love to win 22 games, means the majority of my year as been good. That said, it very rarely happens (and can't for us this year) so I think a lot of us are just trying to keep a lid on things, that's all. Heck, I know I am.

That said, BRING ON FRIDAY NIGHT AND GO PIES!!!!!!

Very noble of you to keep that lid on, but if we beat the Cats do you really think the media will join you?
I don't give a rats about how the media are building up the game. They will do what sells the most papers or ad slots. I want the Pies to win.
True it is not the end of the world but then neither is never winning flag again ever. It's footy. Nobody dies.

But is that the point from a footy point of view???

Certainly not.

Cat for Saturday lunch will satisfy far more than troll.
