If the review coming out today (i believe) says he should stay. Havent doubted Cooky and Co yet so no reason to doubt them now.

On one hand I am down for ****ing Bomber off and putting Kelly, SJ and Mackie on the table. On the other hand...

If Kelly, SJ, Mackie, NAblett and Prismall amongst others have big pre-seasons and play like we KNOW they can the turnaround next year could be HUGE. I mean just imagine Kelly firing like we have all seen him do for large periods of time. Releases ling to tag, takes some pressure of the young Prismall the midfield suddenly looks a bit more scary. One player and the coach now has options etc...so quickly it can turn around.

If the board say stay. I for one am going to shutup, buy my membership and have every confidence that the players, coach and board know that this year was a disgrace. And will be doing EVERYTHING to fix it.

I know where you are coming from. I wouldn't mind if they changed coaches, but not sure if there are better options. The most vitriolic here always suggest Cresswell, who has shown he is, at the very least, stupid.

Some better (well, different) assistants, changes to Football department, the medical and fitness staff are already changing.

Clean out some players. No knee jerk reactions.

Exactly.

Everyone at the club knows it's been a **** year and they must all be feeling the pressure. We've got the examples of guys like Connolly and Daniher who have been under immense pressure to turn around talented and underperforming teams and have done so. Mid-year Connolly was gone - and the end result has been a top-4 spot. Give Bomber the remaining year to turn it around, change his assistants (the ideal situation IMO would be to recruit someone, preferablly Creswell, as an assistant, and groom him to take over the senior position), do a thorough player clean-out (again, no knee-jerk reactions - all this crap about delisting/trading Kelly, SJ or Ling is just that, crap) and run them hard over summer.

Bomber doesn't want to change his assistants.

Hence why he should go.

And honestly is that much going to change in terms of training guys differently etc.? We've heard it all before.

When exactly was this? Not in the last 2 years, and he broke his leg the year before that. He is an overrated, lazy showpony. Like Thompson, this isn't his first season. He's had 5 years and you're expecting a big turnaround in attitude now? Under the same soft coach too.

more likely ....

stokes / varcoe into the forward line
chapman / ablett jr in the middle more (as clearance and ball winners)
j.Corey, bartels, prismall as the others in the onball rotation
rooke, ling as tagging option in the middle

that gives us 5 ball winners rotating through the middle and 2 taggers (probably rotating through the middle as well). That would probably have Kelly as a borderline player and in the vfl

He's been loyal to his assistants, like any other of the 15 coaches would be. Why the hell should he go because of that?

Because you tell me what Andy Lovell and Ken Hinkley have achieved for this club?

Lovell would be the worst midfield coach in the league. Name one midfielder who has actually progressed under him?

What they have done is beside the point. I am saying that Bomber is showing loyalty to assistant coaches and you want to sack him because of that.

Same old morons, same old garbage.
Thompson will probrably stay. You know the Geelong culture - If it's broke, then....that's unfortunate, lets ride it out and see what excuses we can muster up.

I am saying it is one of the main reasons he should be sacked.

If the assistant coaches beside him aren't good, then it's not good for the club to have them stay on. Like I said before, since Cresswell left, our midfield has gone backwards.

Do you want Thompson and the current staff to stay on without any changes at all made after our team has gone backwards over the past 2 seasons with basically the same playing list?

Can we get over Cresswell - he's been let go by Brisbane, their midfield hasn't improved under him.

I'm all for changes - but the right changes. We'd have to get a first up coach again and apart from Longmire there isn't much out there. pyke has knocked back the Saints so I doubt he would come to Geelong

Tell me how the likes of Rischitelli, Moody, Sherman and Stiller have done over the past 2 seasons since he's been there.

It's not Cressa's fault Nigel Lappin has hardly played over the past 2 seasons, and Voss is a shell of his former self. That allows opposing taggers to focus on shutting down Simon Black and Luke Power basically.

Hopefully St. Kilda goes for someone with experience so we could get Longmire. But there are still options out there, and who knows about Pyke still (he's out of contract IIRC).

The Brisbane board think they have gone backwards with him. Brisbane didn't renew his contract because of questions over his commitment.

But you just said they haven't improved under him. I find that hard to believe when you look at their young midfielders, they've got some of the better ones in the league right now.

They were paying Leppitsch 750K on a 2 year deal IIRC, and this way, making him a coach now, they'll get something back on their investment.

If you ask Brisbane supporters about him, they'll tell you he was doing a pretty good job. He was their forwards coach this season, and you saw the season Bradshaw had, and how Rhian Hooper burst onto the scene. Plus they had the major injury problems.

Well what about Leigh Matthews and Darren Cresswell in Brisbane? Wouldn't say there's a lot of loyalty there.

It's called blind loyalty, the assistants we have ATM are not getting the job done, and the stats and results over the past 2 seasons prove that.

So I ask you again, do you want Bomber and the current coaching staff to continue on next season, and good luck finding other people who support that view.

Unless I'm mistaken, DBAHO is not saying Thompson should go merely for showing loyalty, just that he apparently wants to retain the same [ underachieving ] assistants, so together with Thompson's own [ very ] limited tactical skills, it's just "another" reason why he should be shown the door.

I don't need people to 'support' my view, as alot of people on here have, how can I say it, confusing views about football (and they know who I'm referring to).

I've openly said that I don't have any problems with Thompson going on another year, but I do accept there will be changes to the footy department and most possibly the coaching area.

I'm just not criticising Thompson for having faith in assistants. Whether they have enough ability to do the job is another story.

Bomber will not get the best out of the team next year.
We have not been proactive enough.
One thing for sure is that the review qill show a lot of disscontent
No other team has the dissharmony that Geelong has and the reasons must be be layed on the table

The club will compromise by shaking up the coaching support staff
Whoever is selected the assistant coach will be the coach the year after next.

Just wondering...
assuming Bomber is still coach next year, and the selected assistant coach will then take over in 2008 depending of course on the result of the club... so my question is, what ladder position would we need to obtain next year for you (meaning all who read this post) to be happy with keeping Bomber beyond season 2007?
Finals? Grand Final? Premiership? Simple improvement?
