Who won the 2016 draft?

Doesn't let you post the link, you seem to overrate guy that hasn't played a game.

I'm not rating him either way.

However the comparison with Vickery seems off given when Vickery was drafted he was seen as a KPF/Ruck combo, McKay was seen as a KPF with no indication of a ruck role.

Cal Twomey more likened him to Tom Lynch and Ben Griffiths, not Vickery.

GWS again seem to have crushed it because of the glut of academy players they had to choose from. It's a rinse and repeat cycle for them and the AFL created a monster. Lose players, gain high picks, finish high but still have high picks, grab elite talent (both live picks and academy), rinse and repeat. Only query is why trade to pick 2 to grab Taranto? Did they genuinely think they could land McGrath at 2? Either way that feels strange to me.
It kind of doesn't matter. The main point was to get a pick above likely bids for Setterfield so that they get an open draft selection and their top-ranked academy player. Whether it's McCluggage, Taranto or Ainsworth or Brodie or SPS is pretty much immaterial.

Yep, you're right, a developing 200cm bloke not playing a game in his first year renders our entire 2015 draft a bust.
Never said bust, responded to a Blues fan saying that you won the 2015 draft. Too early to know that especially for McKay, Curnow and Cunningham.

No, just yours. Was 2014 SOS first year in charge?
No. 2015 was SOS's first draft for Carlton...and is looking very promising don't you think?

Why so fixated on Carlton anyway? We are all talking about the 2016 draft and you concentrate on this. Why? Too many scars? 2013 elimination final still fresh?

Don't forget where you come from..( l'll give you a hint..a club with a diabolical trade/draft history).

Promising how? Weitering probably but the other 3 first rounders unproven.
Does this look promising?

Clearly you haven't got over that 2013 elimination final..

You are potting a first year KPF who sustained a serious back injury early in the season and missed the majority of the year. Anyone with half a brain would realise that he was on a modified plan and eased in to the last half a dozen games. The facts are that he was very young when drafted (born in December) so there is plenty of time for him to develop. Can you dig up the stats on jack Riewoldt in his first year for comparison?

You also failed to mention the improvement of jack silvagni, the good early signs of c curnow (before his illness) and the development of Cuningham who was out for most of the year with a hip injury. That's the meaning of 'promising'..

They are the facts. Best you stop the desktop research and get some depth in to your posts rather than cut & pasting from wiki.

Clearly you havent gotten over the fact that in the only game that counts it's 4 - 2 in Richmonds favour:rolleyes:

We did because we are a top 8 team and got the number one draft pick clear winners in that alone

Ahhh, pulling out the ancient stats in a pathetic attempt to have a win..the facts are that your last GF win against us was 43 years ago. Thats pretty desperate.

I brought up the elimination final because there must be a reason you tiggy tigs are so fixated with the mighty blues and keep bringing up our trading history in threads like this. The Elimination final is relevant because it was 3 years ago (still fresh), and obviously hurts you tiggy tigs.

Oh, and before we go back to this thread, the 2016 draft, a little reminder of who you are:

35 years since last premiership..
15 years since last win in a final

hmmm..

So we're fixated on Carlton but you started a thread on Richmonds drafting. Pot...Kettle???

Lol you obviously missed my point, what do you think constantly mentioning an EF win back in 2013 is if it's not dragging up ancient history, I thought you enjoyed mentioning ancient facts so thought I would post a truly relevant one:rolleyes:

Carlton's last win against Richmond
2013 Elimination Final.

Shall we now get back on topic and back in 2016;)

Its going to be a while before we know who won this draft, Richmond picked up players that were rated by some in the low 30's in the 50's where as some that were rated low in the draft went fairly high up.

Obviously the real winners should be those with first round picks as there were plenty of good players available but there were also a stack of good players further down the draft, probably a draft we will be talking about for a while to come.

GWS won the draft. Clearly. 100%. I know this because Old Gil told me as I was leaving the Hordern last night.

But when I mentioned GWS wasn't in the top three winners of the draft, he burst into tears and started yelling into his phone for someone to organise some priority picks by Monday.

I should have just agreed with him.

Just curious, why do you think you are a top 8 team? You've only finished in the top 8 once in the last 5 years, even in the the year most of your players were on performing enhancing drugs you didn't make the eight!

This isn't a dig, just wondering what makes you think that?

Are you really counting the time they were removed from the finals as an indicator of former or quality?

GWS and GC look to have cashed in with multiple top ten picks (on the available evidence).

Of the rest, who knows..it's all speculative. Will revisit in a couple of years.

Good luck to all the youngsters..it's a tough gig.
