Will Melbourne Still be Real Seat of AFL Power in 10 Years?

You might want to check a source more informed that the 'WA chipontheshoulder weekly'.

They don't (in practical terms, cannot) calculate where the GST is raised because companies that operate in multiple states don't provide breakdown by state.

I know...thus my point about how you get subsidies in other ways too.

WA's status before the GST was introduced:
“The historical net Commonwealth support for Western Australia was effectively compensation for Commonwealth policies (particularly tariffs) that penalised primary industry-based (and) export-focused states in the earlier years of federation to the benefit of protected manufacturing sectors of the east,” the report said.

The impact of east-coast-centric protectionism on WA led to the secession referendum of 1933, and the establishment of the Commonwealth Grants Commission, which is at the centre of the renewed GST distribution debate.

Clearly to just reference the Grants Commission is flawed as is your interpretation of the GST in the current discussion. Its not about population & GST is identified by State although you dont accept it, go figure.
That you need it based on population .... wrong tram !!

So compensation for the system screwing you over is OK? ( Vic clubs with the AFL comes to mind.....you'd never have said anything negative about that would you?). but with GST...if commonwealth policies and circumstances adversely affecting WA means they should be compensated, then surely having the mining boom throws the exchange rate so far out of what that it screws over the eastern states means they should be compensated by the winner of that situation....or is it only fair when it goes in your favor?

Regardless, look back to where this started....have you found anything to suggest Vic and NSW are on the positive side of the GST equation like you implied?

WA are contributing 66% GST collected to the national pot.
Vic are contributing 8% to the national pot.

Tax is supposed to be fair, in the 30s it was found that screwing WA in favour of the east coast was not on. Naturally you will hang on to that inequity if it favours you, the GST, Grand Final location, the FIXture.

For context:
As much chance as WA getting its fair share of the GST - the haves will hang on for dear life, they feel entitled.

First GF out of Melbourne will be in Sydney, funded by visitNSW.

Yes WA gets screwed on the GST, yes, some clubs benefit from the current GF location, others dont.

Source???

Source???

See Table 2 - sure the last few are estimated but it gives the overall picture.

Just as the GF isnt going anywhere in a hurry nor is WA's share of the GST. Winners & losers as always, the haves win, the have nots lose.

See Jeff is on the hustings to retain pokies revenue, not everyone has access to this source of revenue, such is life. The AFL has the ability to make it happen, will it fund the clubs who lose out, they dont as it stands - wont happen EVER if the AFL dont value equity, prefer the money.

I just love the way you jump from federal state relations to club politics as if they were the same topic.

Do you really conflate these things in your mind that much, or is it just a tactic to give you an 'out' so you can avoid getting caught out when the facts get brought up?

End of the day

half the teams, and more half the recruits, tv ratings and members come from Victoria. thats not going to change any time soon. TV rights are eve more heavily slated toward Victoria given the higher purchasing price of the advertisng dollar over every other major AFL state. And Victorias population isnt predicted to get any smaller.

& you run these motherhood claims long after they have been shown to be BS, a figment of your imagination, e.g this earlier claim of yours:
Actually it's not 'puts in Vs puts out' because it simply isn't calculated that way. It's about what states get back compared to what they would get back if it was calculated on a per capita basis.
Do you still stand by this?

'the haves' believe they are entitled, always will, elitists all do. In this era of disruption, the have nots will continue to seek equity until they are in a position to demand.

"The impact of east-coast-centric protectionism on WA led to the secession referendum of 1933, and the establishment of the Commonwealth Grants Commission, which is at the centre of the renewed GST distribution debate."

WA had their chance to control their own destiny and blew it i 1933
Imagine all that lovely mining income since WW2 how wealthy WA would be today.
I believe being part of the Federation holds WA back
They should be their own country and make all their own decisions. But the east coast States are never going to agree.

As to the power of the AFL/Australian Football leaving Melbourne its not going to happen any time soon.

YEP, change doesn't happen quickly.

You know WA voted to secede in 1933.
Personally I'm against secession, but something has to change & you only have to look at what being said in current by elections in Q & SA that their is no appetite for change (aka guts), there is a vacuum at the top in the leadership stakes across the Federal Patliament.
