News Willie Rioli: tampered with drug testing sample; tests positive for cannabis

As predicted he panicked after having some weed.

For just the weed id give him nothing.

For the stupid tampering 12 months.

Total = 12 months.

I agree on the weed however they need to set a precedent with tampering. It leaves a get out of jail card for players to ‘only’ receive 12 months if they are taking PEDs.

It’s pretty heartbreaking as marijuana is clearly not performance enhancing and Willie seems like a genuinely good person.

Hope he gets his life back on track. Maybe a change of scenery would do the trick, get away from negative influences.

Everyone keeps saying it was just marijuana, but do you really want druggies being role models for our kids?

Depends on what you define as a druggie.

Apparently not a druggie in the AFL unless its the 3rd strike or caught on match day.

Apparently not a huge society issue either, as whilst illegal, you get a caution for:
  1. 10 grams or less of cannabis (or cannabis seeds) for personal use and or;
  2. A smoking implement with traces of cannabis
He totally qualifies for number 2.

It honestly feels like Rioli is being thrown under the bus. This was a separate test to the one he tampered with. Guys are getting 1 2 or 3 strikes and the AFL covers it up but Rioli gets outed after 1 failed test?
Because it was on game day that's why.

Say a player gets quite anxious the day before a big game such as a final. So anxious he has trouble sleeping. Decides to have a couple of cones. Has a wonderful stress free 8 hours sleep....
Performs well the next day as a result of the good nights sleep.....

Will get nothing for the hooch and the book thrown at him for dodging the test. Of all the things to throw away a career!! Tampering with a urine test to avoid a slap on the wrist. Of course its too far a reach to expect any common sense here as rules are rules and someone needs to be made an example of. Or something. Well done ADADA for ridding AFL of the scourge of performance enhancing pot.
