I only watch news once every day or two and I haven't seen anything on the UK. It may be there, but it's not prominent. No one in daily life discusses the UK. Could just be part of the BF echo chamber. It's not really a "thing" here TBH.

As I said in a previous post I often mention the UK because they are much further down the track than Australia in terms of the progression of the pandemic -

vaccination rates and natural immunity
vaccine passports
apps that ping close contacts
ability to travel overseas

Also, our health authorities often mirror the UK's and they have pretty good data.

Fair point. Just hope the authorities at least are monitoring other places. Seems like Canada, South Korea and even certain US regions could be worth looking at. Just because Australia have a Union Jack on their flag doesn’t mean the countries are comparable.

So if you've had covid and recovered, and millions have, are you then immune? Or can you still pass it on?

Also, their NHS and our health system have a lot of similarities (especially compared to US and Europe).

Whether by vaccine or natural developed immunity you have the antibodies to prevent you getting sick. You are much less likely to pass on the virus if are not showing symptoms such as coughing and sneezing.

Covid-19 is a reportable disease but autopsies are not required if a person dies. We usually don't know if someone died of Covid or something else.

The only rational way to make sense of the data on deaths is 'number of years lost'. For example the recent deaths in NSW : a woman in her 90s, a man in his late-80s, a man in his 70s, a woman in her 90s. They may have died from conditions unrelated to Covid - but either way their average age was around the normal average age of death.

Two more deaths in NSW that have been attributed to Covid.

Saeeda Akobi Jjou Stu died of a heart attack after her two sons were fined $22,000, threatened with jail, and publicly shamed by government, police and the media for causing the recent outbreaks.

An 89-year-old man has died.

This has to be compared to the number of years lost as a result of lockdowns, such as cancer and heart disease checks missed for people in their 40s, or suicides.
Calculate it the right way, sozzy.

Here is an easy to use table:

If you're a woman and die at 85 from Covid, you're down 7.6 years.

If you calculate it the wrong way (as you have) and count life expectancy from birth, you would mistakenly think that 85 year old has lost no years of life. Or even GAINED 4.1 years if it's a male.

Get it?

Then think of the life years lost WITHOUT lockdowns and other measures inhibiting the spread. This includes people who die of Covid, and people who lose years because they cannot or will not access health services clogged up with Covid patients.

Could you not equally argue that the 85yo who dies from Covid, as opposed to the majority of 85yo’s who survive it, might be the 85yo who isn’t going to get those 7 years?

I don’t know the answer here, just playing dark hypotheticals.

So the age of the deaths with Covid in NSW were consistent with the averages in your table? A woman in her 90s, a man in his late-80s, a man in his 70s, a woman in her 90s.

You seem to implying that every 85 year old woman will live another 7.6 years. It's patently false. In Australia in 2019 11,055 women aged between 80 and 84 died. That's 30 every day. 40 women aged between 85 and 90 die every day.

Covid deaths in Australia will increase unless three things happen. You stay isolated, a vaccine is completely effective or Covid burns our like previous viruses.

Or better treatments become available. Take a guess when the Indonesian government blocked the use of Ivermectin. And when they allowed it's use again.

Let’s not go down the path of arguing about that snake oil.

You seem to be implying that the life expectancy at 80 is the same as the life expectancy at birth.

You're leaving out the woman in her 50's.

Also, what would you do (presuming you were the PM) at present with borders, lockdown and quarrantine?
