Re: Where will Grigg play?

i think he'll go to a half back flank and deledio will come onto a wing, yes deledio killed it off half back last year but thats because we desperately needed him behind the ball, now that we are safe in that position deledio can move onto a wing, becoming the outside mid we need, and becoming more influential as a player

For me it's not about who is better Grigg/Collins. It's more the principal of trading out a good player that we have worked with for two years, was a good team man and rated by supporters.

I wanted to get Grigg, but Collins should have been one of our 'untouchables unless its a ridiculous offer' and this certainly wasn't a ridiculous offer given there are a number of other ways that we could have had Grigg.

Not so sure about this although eventually Deledio will play wing at some point.

He is a bit of an enigma Grigg. The closest player I can think of to him physcially would be Collingwoods Pendlebury. Am I wrong here?? Obviously not the same player but if he improves various categories he could play a similar role.
I am not sure if Grigg is agile enough for the backline role you are implying.

Re: Where will Grigg play?

Grigg will play in the guts! he's not a HBFer, he's an inside Midfielder and his inclusion will allow Cotchin and Foley to run forward of the ball more and use they're breaking line capabilities! Grigg along with Martin/Tuck/Jackson will be our inside players as Grigg is brilliant by hand which is something lack, that damaging release handball to someone on the outside that is damaging by foot!

Its actually a pretty good trade for us if you take out the soft spot everyone has for Collo!

Re: Where will Grigg play?

The other thing that not many people have taken into account is that Grigg has a Massive engine, can run all day and will take the role of Tuck when he goes and with Houli coming into the side aswell it strengthens both our inside (Grigg) and Outside (Houli) effectivness.

We will have a bloody good midfield when they're all on the park!

Martin/Cotchin/Deledio/Foley/Grigg/Houli/Morton/Edwards/Jackson/Tuck......all run through the midfield and are ultra capable in there!
Also not to forget whoever we pick at 6 will most likely be ready made aswell!

Re: questions re Grigg/collins trade

:D:D:D
A lot of those dead against this trade are the exact people who once the season finished were posting threads such as 'trade Polo', 'trade Nahas' and in the years before 'trade Tivendale', 'trade Hyde' and 'trade Hughes'.

Welcome to the reality of AFL football ... if you want something meaningful, you cough up something meaningful.

Again, would have preferred Collins stay, but clearly Grigg fulfills a greater need ... strong midfielder!!!

Those thinking Collins, with that two stroke motor and light frame, is a midfielder!!!

He played forward for a reason ...!!

Re: questions re Grigg/collins trade

OMG!

Are these the posters that were shouting and ranting and raving about the number of skinny flankers we have been recruiting over the years?

We finally pick up someone with a big body who can run and get the pill and people go ape droppings over the fact we gave away a skinny flanker who happens to be a nice guy too.

In the end, Hardwick and co. had this decision to make:

Is Andy Collins > or < Grigg + Houli +/- possible PSD pick up.

You don't have to be Einstein to work out what conclusion they came to and neither should we find it hard to work out the answer to the equation.

GROW UP AND GET OVER IT!

Welcome to tigerland Shaun Grigg!

Collins might not have been a big body - but he put his head and body over the ball better than anyone, and had a heart like a tiger.

Nothing wrong with being a skinny flanker - pocket player - as long as you tackle well and put your body on the line and chase - collins did all these things + he was an accurate shot at goal

Me thinks that Tom Hislop will be staying on our list next season - as otherwise only Jake King can fill the position that Collins used to play...

I just don't understand why we had to agree to this trade - we were without a doubt in the best position to win this deal clearly

If Collins is to be rated as untouchable we may as well not bother turning up to trade week.
He was perfect trade bait, had shown a bit but was ultimately a fringe player that would struggle for opportunities in the future most pokey.
Deledio, Martin, Riewoldt and Cotchin are untouchables, to list Collins amongst them is just stupid and thinking based on emotion rather then reality.

RFC did the right thing with Collins, they told him Carlton was interested in him.

He accepted the deal at Carlton, he was not pushed.

What would the players think of Richmonds management if they did not disclose other clubs where interested in them.

Collins an untouchable? Give me a break.

I did not know Collins was part of the caste system.

Untouchable you must be kidding.

Re: questions re Grigg/collins trade

I can see why everyone thinks we were in prime position to take Grigg for nothing but im getting the feeling the club has plans we're unaware of, we've planned to trade for Grigg/Houli and possibly Sherman leaving our PSD pick open.

We dont even know who we're exactly getting rid of yet either, so far we've lost Cuz, Simmonds, Polak (rookie), Roberts (rookie), Tambling and Collins.

So as it stands its:
4 senior, 2 Rookie list = gone
1 senior list = in
We suspect that Gourdis will be promoted to the senior list and Miller onto the Mature age Rookie spot.

We still need to see the final Ins/Outs before we start getting histerical!

Not sure what all the complaining is about, maybe the Tigers have realised how valuable a PSD pick can be and are clearing a way to pick up someone else with their PSD pick (eg Jacobs).

If they can also do a trade for Houli then they can set themselves up to pick up a Jacobs/Sherman in the PSD if deals to their prefered clubs cannot be settled. Both players would be worth A LOT more than either Houli of Griggs.

Sure you could have held onto your "power" redarding Grigg/Houli, but being able to pick up a Sherman/Jacobs would be A LOT more beneficial to the Tigers in the end ................

Well said. Its funny watching people want to get something of quality when trade week rolls around but then when it comes to giving up something of quality to get it they are unhappy about it.

Collins was liked by many here, but I had serious doubts whether he would have been in our next finals side, let alone premiership side.

Won't get Sherman as he has just been traded to the Dogs.

Jacobs is a chance, but I reckon we'll probably just sit back and let Houli slide into the PSD. Will get at least 6 new players in the ND and will just focus on developing the kids.

Most people aren't suggesting he's "untouchable"... **** me you'd think we'd traded him for Ablett or a contracted player at least......and have to laugh at all you clowns "admiring" Troy/Rusty's reaction....the whole "Andy Collins superman" shit was a comedy routine...he just chose him at random for the gag when he was still in the 3rd's, because he was a fairly obscure player back then taken at 73 in the draft, that was whole crux of the joke when he started it....it's not as if he was actually watching many Coburg games up there in QLD...

Anyway carry on all marching in lock-step to the company line, sheeple....:thumbsu:

We didn't have to give anything of quality, that's the point. We had them over a barrel - yes, it's a sideways trade in terms of talent, but when it comes to considering the positions of the two clubs, WE had the stronger position, and we threw it away.

We may still come out well on top but I personally believe we could have wrangled a better deal out of the whole situation.

Good to see there's at least one more able to get their head around the concept ...:thumbsu:

We could just get Houli in the National draft with a late pick i doubt any clubs will pick him up.

Andy was never on the table. Carlton approached him and wanted him, and gave him a shiny new contract and he wanted to go. We saw it as a win trade for us. Deal done.

Wish people will stop their moaning about this. Andy Collins was a player with limitations and not in our best side. You would think we would have bloody traded Cotchin for crying out loud.

Why do we have to screw over teams? Why can't we have the mantra of getting deals that benefit us without worrying about screwing the opposition? The coaching staff obviously see Andy Collins as expendable and not part of our long term plan of a Premiership, but they see Grigg as an important cog. The fact Carlton see this as a win as much as we do, who cares. We got what we wanted and kept the things that matter most to us, our draft picks and important players that the coaching staff think will deliver us our 11th Premiership.

The reaction of some Richmond supporters over this has been embarrassing.

The only reasons that Carlton peole are actually happy about this trade are:

1 a lot of us have made dills of ourselves with our reaction over this

2 they thought they weren't going to get anything out of this trade

Screwing carlton over now is just plain stupid if you look at the impending arrival of free agency, if we look like a club who works hard yet fair to make trades for players and behave in a magnanimous, ethical fashion then we are much more likely to become an attractive option for other players (like the swarm of young stars being shipped off to the gold coast for example)

Not bending Carlton over now could pay off big later
