Moloney yes
Caddy yes
Clint young yes

Help for Watson, another good deliverer to the forwards, and a dangerous, penetrating kick off the HBF.

Means we can get rid of lonergan, baguley ....

Our game plan relies on high effiecency in kicking and winning contested footy. We would be improving on both of those aspects.

I know that Dermott Brereton has heard essendon have made a play for B.Goddard

Im going to throw up a name I had mentioned earlier (but got no bites). George Horlin - Smith. 'The Hyphen' as he seems to be more commonly known as on the Geelong board. Picking up some seriously big numbers for the VFL Geelong side (10 of his 13 games were 20+). He has strong vision and awareness, good skills for an inside midfielder and seems to be able to play across half back to start with. I wonder what Turbocat thinks about where GHS is at?

Yoda , he has the potential to be a quality mid. Cricket background , good all round sportsman. Not slow but not quick either. Good by foot and tends to go well in and amongst it. I think he has struggled with the speed of AFL when given his go but it will come. Got lost a little last Sun against Port , so many big bodies but has progressed well and Id expect him to push hard for a regular spot next year. Is he gettable? I suppose most players are with the right offer but It would have to be a very good offer. Geelong will need his services in the very near future and Geelong are probably looking at most of the players on your list above as they will loose several mids in the next couple of seasons.

If Damien Barrett is correct in what he's just said, and dermie is right about Goddard we are in right up to our necks.
Apparently the saints are offering 3 years @ 600k and not budging, and bj wants 4 years.
If we have indeed made an offer (I have a feeling we have) then we are right in the mix as long as we are willing to offer him the term he wants.

Another highly sought after midfielder is Josh Thomas (Collingwood) when up and running he is a strong inside midfielder with goal kicking capabilities. Strong attack at the ball and has tidy kicking skills. A player who has been mentioned on the collingwood board as a possible delisting through to a possible debutant come finals. Wonder why he isnt getting a game, can Knightmare or Snoop Dog enlighten us?

The only thing holding Josh Thomas back so far has been injury - ankles mostly but he seems ok now. Stoppage work and inside game as good as any on the Collingwood list. Reads the ruck taps as well as any, strong tackler, has a nice burst of speed and can break away from congestion. Uses it well by hand and foot and decision making in close excellent.
Not the most flexible by position and not a player you would rest as a forward or as a defender because it is his in tight game through the midfield that adds value to the team. He is underdone having not had a full preseason and has never had the opportunity to fully build his match fitness but if he can have a full preseason and stay healthy he can be another Luke Ball type hard inside player and could pretty quickly match his production if not exceed it through the midfield once that match fitness builds up.

I'd liken him to Nathan Foley but I consider Josh's inside game and ball use slightly better.

Exciting player and one I'd like to see retained but with our midfield depth one who at the right price could probably be traded for.

Moloney (I shouldn't be talking Essendon into this) but he was excellent for Melbourne in 2011 and while he has struggled to get a game this year if healthy and motivated is very good inside player. 29 next season so I can't imagine after the season he has had that he would be the most expensive free agent.

Goddard wants to stay, but also wants a 4 year deal.
Saints are offering 3 years @ 600k and aren't budging.
Apparently no offer tabled from freo yet either.

This is the same club that tabled a 5 year, million a year contract for Cloke.

Given the Lyon connection, I'd say the sticking point is the Saints not matching Freos offer.

Freo will offer better money than we will. but we could get him if he doesn't want to leave Melbourne.

No way would I give him 800k, but perhaps 650K and four years to get him across the line.

Goddard is in his golden years, if he hasn't already, he could set himself up for life with his next contract.

Locking away 3 million dollars over 4 years provides a sense of certainty and will probably comfort any degree of home sickness.

Freo will out bid us

Why do we want all these melbourne players who cant get a game for their respecitive sides which has the worst list in the comp?

Also havnt seen Gysberts play but when drafted was considered very much an outside player with elite kicking skills. Are people talking about the same player, is he now an inside player with shit skills?

Have we whispered sweet $$$ into Josh Kennedy's ( Swans ) ears ?

Seen you mentione his name quite a bit and im guessing its because hes uncontracted?

I think the only reason he hasnt signed is because his contract value will significantly increase with these possabilities Sydney B&F, Brownlow, norm smith ect. I cant see him moving away from Sydney as he has already left Hawthorn and the club has really turned his career around. He just knows he can get alot more money than what he currently is on and the managers would sure be in his ear about this. A few bargaining tools.

Three reasons

1) He is a better player than most offered up in this thread
2) Being uncontracted at this stage of the year is unusual
3) This is the type of player EFC should target

I don't know where this idea that clubs just trade in guns comes from. It doesn't happen.

The only way clubs trade successfully is to identify out of favour players or guys who are out of "best sides" who can fill roles needed.

Melbourne is ripe for the raiding because they are stockpiled full of elite junior talent the development of which they have ****** up. A few of these guys also seem to have been ostracized by their coach. Don't get sucked into the idea that they got the drafting wrong because Nic Nat aside no other clubs would have made different decisions.

It would be great, but imagine the price. Not a free agent so we'd have to trade.

What was that one that the BB guys started a few years back that got picked up by the WA media, and then copied into the Age?
It didn't get picked up by the WA media.
That was the point, Age is syndicated to the Westralian, one of the people on BB wrote it as a Westralian article & the Age ran it word-for-word without even checking it was on the West's website, let alone shooting off a text or e-mail.

Lulzy stuff........ :D

what do you guys think

Monfires thought to be given a 4 year deal at port and a possible deal with Melbourne

what about Moloney, do you think we should get him?

A 4 year deal for Goddard on big money is a horrible, horrible risk.

Why can nobody see that he’s barely played a good game in 2 years?

Yes his 2010 GF was brilliant... he hasn’t gone anywhere near that form since.

There is no ****ing way on earth he is worth $700k a year... and he’ll be 28 next year.

If this comes off, I predict a whole lot of fapping at the “big fish”... followed by disappointing form... then tears and heartbreak in 2 years when we have guns coming off contract.

There’s a reason St Kilda is only offering 3 years and $600k... he’s absolutely worth no more, and imo a bit less. No way I’d go past $500k for this bloke. People talk like he’s a league top 10 player. He’s not even top 30.

Christ I hope we don’t get him... not worth the price, not by a long shot.
