Why would the Swans boo their own player? What a ******* stupid thing to say hahahah

well they wouldn't, of course, because the booing isn't along racial lines.

but thanks for confirming it's just a footy thing.

I'd say your point misses the mark by a long, long way. You're talking about exactly what wider society ignores- poverty, disadvantage, loss of culture and the breakdown of society.

But yeah, I was often bullied by indigenous kids in primary school so obviously that should change the way I think about things... right?

o_O

None so blind as those who refuse to see.

Goodes's War Dance did nothing to address ' poverty, disadvantage, loss of culture and the breakdown of society'. Thanks for proving my point.

No he put that kid on the line, how did he put himself on the line exactly?
We're 438 pages in to a thread debating the abuse he has copped for the past year and half and you're asking how he put himself on the line?

well they wouldn't, of course, because the booing isn't along racial lines.

but thanks for confirming it's just a footy thing.
Tell me if Goodes played 350 odd games won 2 brownlow medals multiple AA's etc at your club would you boo him because he's outspoken about racial issues? What a load of shit

We've been going around in circles with these clowns for days now.

The moral to their story is that kids can do what they want, without consequence, because they're kids. We are stupid for thinking otherwise.

No
That's not so.
No-one absolved her of any consequences - just that the consequences were out of kilter to the indiscretion when her age is taken into account

This is only part of why Goodes was booed, something you fail to acknowledge.

he should have waxed his whole body

For starters, of course I don't plan on engaging in the argument. Unlike you, I'm not a mushroom who spends all day posting on Bigfooty.

Secondly, I don't care about aboriginal culture, and I really don't care about your knowledge of it. It's irrelevant to the problem I highlighted: people aren't racist just because they boo.

Thirdly, this is about booing at football games, not racism elsewhere. If it wasn't at a football game, it wouldn't be on this board.

Fourthly, I'm not concerning myself with the actions of others just because an obnoxious w*nker like you tells me to. I'm free to boo for non-racial reasons, and I'm comfortable knowing I'm not a racist because of that, contrary to what dopes like you might suggest.

You don't decide what constitutes racism, bigot. If you weren't a complete moron, you'd realize a lot of it comes down to interpretation.

You're a racist using any reasonable interpretation. And one that is unprepared to consider the views of other people. Only one of us is a moron here and it aint me. (I'm not going to waste any further time responding to you btw).

But then as my wife says "maybe I'm just not doing it right".

Regards

S. Pete

It might be the whole 'regards S Pete' thingy.

You're too formal! :D

BREAKING: AFL about to launch powerful new video campaign promoting responsible barracking at the footy @superfooty

Jesus Christ, so this is what it's come to. To people who now go to the footy, always stay seated, keep your arms by your sides at all times, gold clap for when your team scores a goal, golf clap when the opposition team scores a goal. Actually, we will no longer be keeping scpres of games. Everyone is a winner come the final siren, and all players will be chaired off after a hard fought contest.

Carry on

I dont think posting random but useful information is going to get through to a bunch of people who feel that booing someone is a mature thing to do.
That's as it may eventually be. And I acknowledge that logic and reason all too often takes a back seat when passions are inflamed. At such times too many let their Amygdala alone do their thinking.

But I still have the right to express my opinion and share information that can be read by those who wish to understand the principles, structure, logic or otherwise of arguments being made by either side of an argument.

If it helps highlight techniques and strategies used by some to manipulate - so much the better.

ha ha, cool your jets ace.

that's just the point. virtually nobody seems to boo him 'cause he's outspoken about race. it's more along team lines (and other things), as you keep alluding to.

You're a racist using any reasonable interpretation. And one that is unprepared to consider the views of other people. Only one of us is a moron here and it aint me. (I'm not going to waste any further time responding to you btw).
Again, baselessly accusing others of being racist, thereby confirming you have no understanding of what racism is. Too funny.

I've acknowledged that Goodes is booed for a variety of reasons. My acknowledgement is something you've failed to comprehend. But you've generally just been trolling this thread for reactions, so it's expected.

Where else do people boo?

Why is it considered a thing to do at the footy? Where did it come from?

You dont really see it at any other sport - tennis, maybe - but cant imagine a bunch of people following a golfer around a golf course booing his every action.

You dont see it in society in general - i've never seen anyone boo another person walking down the street, i've never seen it at school, university, nightclubs. The only thing i can think of is a protest - but even then people can usually manage to string a few words together to express themselves rather than just make noise.

Yet here we are with a bunch of people trying to justify themselves with all sorts of ridiculous reasons why its ok to incessantly make derogatory noise at a person for a good three hours every weekend.

If you want to boo, for whatever reason, go ahead.
But IMO, why not come up with some words to use, make yourself look more intelligent than an angry caveman.

That is an outright lie, Gibson was listed as injured (ankle) Round 8 against GWS follolwing the game from Sydney. You sir are a liar, slanderer and bigot, but you're right it is typical of the bullshit that is being sprouted about Goodes. The people saying the boo-ing is due to racism simply refuse to look at the facts.

I really resent being put in the position of having to defend those who have booed Goodes, I just wish toolbags like you would cease in your attempts to canonise Goodes at the expense of people's reputations.

Doesn't change anything Mick, your position on this is sad and embarrassing, I reckon this is probably you in real life

just wanted someone to confirm the booing is along footy lines. Chooma did it so you don't have to answer, not that it looks like you were going to try.

Except you confirmed no such thing, because your post was completely lacking in the logic required to make it so.

Mate you've got me, we can't justify making any noise in a public place. Actually there's no rational reason for being at the football in the first place. **** it I'm taking up yoga.

EPL back in a week thank christ

Fair enough but here is my view:

In the heat of the moment he wanted to make a stand, he had (probably) been talking a lot about racial issues at the time in and outside of football. The fact he realised it was a young girl doesn't matter he already turned around and completed the action of trying to find a point at the person that called him an ape. Why would he stop himself in the middle just because it was a youngish girl? 13 isn't that young and she might've looked a bit older but that's besides the point anyway.

The "Face of Racism" is a metaphor, I'm sure people have similarly pointed that out already 100 times...

It is not literally saying she is the face of racism and is evil or something like that, it is a technique used to highlight the sadness of the situation that a young child who probably doesn't know what she is doing is inflicting this type of pain on others without knowing the consequences.

Note: Please don't try compare how much racial abuse hurts compared to getting embarrassed on national media as a 13 y.o. girl who actually did something wrong (but was not condemned by Goodes).

She is a kid and he knew it before he pointed her out - he has said that, so in the heat of the moment he made a mistake, I don't think he has ever acknowledged that it may have not been the ideal thing to do either, then went on and held media conferences and interviews and kept discussing her as he perceived it to be good for his cause without any regard for her.

My issue is that he may have unintentionally caused that kid serious emotional damage - exactly what he is saying he is trying to stomp out.

I believe that many people see it as hypocritical to use a child in that way. He is media savvy, he would have know it would turn into a circus - or he at least should have but he stands by his actions - those by which he will be judged.
