I thought Gold Coast have ruled out trading with Essendon forever. Lets stop wasting our time contemplating such scenarios.

But if they did.....

I reckon Hurley and Hibbered are gone. What will GC give for Pick 1, Hurley and Hibbered?
That would be a 'super trade' if Ive ever seen one.

I was thinking IF Hurley AND Hibberd both go how do we get in the best position to re-invigorate our list?

A possible and semi-realistic way I see it is:
Hurley to the dogs for their R1 + R2 (say pick 13+31) and swap 2017 ESS R3 for WB R2 (WB get Hurley for a R1 pick + R2 pick and a pick downgrade)
Hibberd to Melbourne for R2 pick (say pick 25) and possibly a 2017 R4 pick.

Then we trade:
Picks 19,25,31,37 (2822 points) to GWS for picks 8 & 16 (2618 points) (GWS do this because basically they are just targetting academy picks and 204 free points is a good get)
Picks 1, 55 and WB 2017 R2 pick(approx 3770 points) to GC for picks 4 & 7 (3678 points). GC get pick 1 to use on player before Brodie pick plus extra points in 55 plus start stockpiling picks in case of next year academy picks.

This gives us picks:
4, 7, 8, 13, 16, 73

Assuming Prestia goes to either Carlton or Richmond for their first round pick, I see the draft order at the end of the year therefore being something like (not including bids for GWS players):

1) Gold Coast: Brodie
2) Gold Coast: Bowes (Matching Brisbane's bid and using pick gained from Richmond/Carlton (5th/6th pick) + one of their 2nd rounders)
3) Brisbane: SPS
4) Fremantle: Marshall
5) Essendon: McCluggage
6) Richmond/Carlton: Ainsworth
7) Essendon: McGrath
8) Essendon: Venables
9) Port Adelaide: Gallucci
10) St Kilda: Simpkin
11) North Melbourne: English
12) West Coast: Rotham
13) Essendon: Toranto
14) Adelaide: Scharenberg
15) Sydney: Scrimshaw
16) Essendon: Battle
...
73) Essendon: Walla upgrade.

Giving us something along the lines of McCluggage/Marshall, McGrath, Venables, Toranto, Battle.
While also maintaining our 1st and 2nd rounders next year.

Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer Hurley and Hibberd to stay but I think this would really help re-invigorate our list if they were to go.

Dodo?

It is, but haven't you guys ruled out trading up for pick 1?
That was reported from a "source" at the club. I think Prestia and 7 works for both clubs however some have suggested here 4 and 7 which is too much.

Personally with Bowes slipping I think we would only trade if Prestia nominated Essendon

I think Bowes will still be bid on in the first 3.

Josh Caddy. Dodo finally stumps it up years too late.

Why would we do that deal? I don't understand why would we give up pick 4 for nothing
It was just a hypothetical way for us to improve our draft position, and for you to gain a few points.

Some reporter saying that Pig to Melbourne is a done deal

Not sure who, just heard it on the radio

It was Sam McClure.

So, do we get anything for him?
Or just mid season player theft?
A trade still has to happen, but if I were the club I'd be approaching the AFL and questioning the legality of what the Dees have done. I thought it was against AFL rules & regs for opposition clubs to make formal contract offers to contracted players mid-season (regardless of whether the offer is/was only made and agreed to verbally).

I think they are allowed to talk to agents just not the player. Yeah, I know.

Not sure anyone can say done deal even if he wants to accept a deal. Bit of dealing to be done yet.

Can probably have a heads of agreement signed which is a non-binding agreement used as a pre cursor to formal contract.

Hmm I still don't think it's right but ok. I still think if opposition clubs want to approach a contracted player with an offer, they should ask that players incumbent club's permission first. Bit of honesty, etc. goes a long way rather than underhanded dealings.

Don't think that's practical. An employee (player) generally doesn't want their employer (club) to know they are considering taking up a job elsewhere until they accept that position. Likewise an employer generally doesn't tell another employer (company/club) they are interested in securing their staff.

If Hibberd leaves and we end up with pick 27 or whatever, I'd be hopeful for something like:
1 - McCluggage
19 - Simpkin
27 - Drew

Obviously there are a lot of others i'd like to take too, but i'd be pretty excited with this batch if it happened.

How many employers organise trades with other companies in the real world?

Not sure it is the best comparison.

It'd be the following for mine:
#1 - McLuggage
#19 - Battle
#26 - Whoever is best available (Kerr?)

I think though having #1, #19, #26 (via MEL for Hibberd), #37, #48 (via WCE for Howlett), #55, #73, #91, #109 is probably a few too many picks. I'd be more in favour of getting as many picks inside the top 10 (and 20) as possible. IF (and I don't think it'll happen) Hurley does decide he wants to leave, we'd have to go after Marchbank wouldn't we? Or do we press hard for a Patton/Lobb and play Hooker in defense again with Francis as the 3rd tall down there?
