Will be interesting to see what Goody does with McGovern, surely WCE won't let Melksham go to him again, which arguably won us the game last time

If our entries get mopped up by Barass/McGovern all day then we're not going to win. We really need Weid's form to continue, even if he can just keep continuing to bring the ball to ground and tackle and pressure at ground level then that'll be enough.

We've got so much more inside depth than them and surely Harmes goes to Yeo, although he did kill Shuey last time and potentially we'll play Oliver h2h against Yeo? Some interesting matchups coming up

Why would west coast get a choice? If we put melk on McGovern all they can do is expend effort trying to keep Melksham away from him. Would be a waste of time.

Hannan spent time on McGovern too, they sent him forward in the second half

I thought Hannan was playing a role on Hurn from memory? Although I know we love to rotate and change things throughout the game, it'll be interesting to see how our forward half operates and is the most important part of the ground I think, as our inside mids should be too strong for them.

Big learning lesson for Goody on the weekend.

Gawn was tagged and completely nullified. Vardy and Lycett held him back and stopped him jumping. Really smart.

They played the same game as Collingwood did against us queens bday. They attacked us with minimal numbers and kept their with width. Works for us if we are clean but when we fumbled often they would get a handball 10m away and their blokes were already gone while ours were stuck in no mans land.

Jetta was dragged into midfield by Ryan and Rioli and he played the worst game he's played since Roos joined the club.

Without Gawns help our defence was separated by Kennedy and Darling who destroyed Omac and Frost.
Look at the way those 2 kept out of each others space.

literaly no one was going to hold darling and Kennedy though in the first half. they only kicked two goals between them (to darling) after halfway through the second quarter. Maybe they were checked out, but also it was an impossible task for two young defenders to keep them quiet when the midfield was being annihilated early

Mate our defence was below par all season until Gawn moved behind the ball. We struggled to stop scores from minimal inside 50s and it took our ruck going behind the ball. They weren't the reason we lost, far from it but it's still a weakness IMO.

Fair enough Collingwoods back 6 isn't exactly Scarlett Harley and Taylor but it's something we need to fix.

The midfield was horrible. We had 8 blokes who didn't make a tackle for the game. Probably best to write it off as an anomaly rather than pot too many individuals.

My brother made a good point after the game (not making excuses), in this day and age with some much analysis of the game its funny how you look at some of the home/away results vs finals and they were flipped. We beat Hawks/Cats in the finals - lost during home/away. Vice versa us v west coast. .....Richmond and Collingwood. Maybe i'm reading into a bit to much, but it lends itself to your post earlier how WCE did there home work against us this time around.

I think the defense improved as we went on and tried to fill Lever's role, but ultimately our defense really depends on midfield pressure. The defenders didn't look out of their dept against the cats in the EF keeping them to 3 goals in 3 quarters. .....no doubt it's area we need to keep improving as indicated by the club meeting with May.

Simon ******* Goodwin
3rd in the Coach of the year, behind Bucks; simmo

Well deserved, and honestly it doesn't surprise me. Edit: that he finished this high
Considering this award was voted by his peers, even the other coaches themselves saw the improvement he made over the course of the year to get us in a deep finals run.

Coming up to February and talk of a Goodwin contract extension announcement seems to have gone completely cold.

Would have thought this would have been done late last year, not sure what the hold up is. Anyone have any news?

Does he really need one yet? Where would he go?
Last couple of guys to defect from their clubs were what Lyon and Malthouse? Ken Judge maybe?

May as well give the season a chance to breathe first

He'll be extended early, but it's not a pressing matter. Coaches wouldn't be the same as players, in that they'd have clubs talking to them early on when their contract is up so you need to resign them as early as possible.

At this point, there are 18 senior coaching positions, and 18 coaches filling them, unless one of them had shown a desire to retire at seasons end, all clubs will be intending on keeping their coach in place for the foreseeable future, otherwise they'd have given them the flick at the end of last season.

Not too worried about a contract, like everyone has said he won't get poached or anything. Even if we missed finals this year I wouldn't sack him unless we finished bottom 6 and/or there was a massive falling out between Goody and the players.
