Be interesting to see if we hold fire on the top order or make a change. I don't see anyone outside the team better than what we have would be a complete fluke if someone came in and scored runs. It's about the current players playing better. In a series with these scores Warner might be better off making a quickfire 45 than worrying about being a traditional opener.

Harris.

Can anyone see Smith tonning up? He’s not looking very fluent. Long way to go
Would be silly to write him off, but too early to be thinking about it.

How long do we give Warner though? If you ignore the clear outlier, which was the series in Bangladesh, Warner has reached his half century only 4 times of his last 29 innings overseas. His top score is 68. That's going all the way back to 2015.

theres not many making it easy to move him out of the side though

Has there ever been an attractive spin bowler?

Mate it's not like we have Michael Hussey and Phil Jaques plundering hundreds in FC missing out on a gig we don't have anyone better than him. We don't even have anyone close to him. As much as people hate Warner we don't have other options.

Harris is the only other decent opener in the country and he was ok not great at test level.

People can speculate about how he might fail in England all they want, but Burns has a Test average of 40. Deserves to be backed in overseas. Khawaja wasn't nearly as bad as expected when they finally gave him a chance overseas.

We don't have other options because we haven't given them a chance overseas.

You could open with Khawaja and bring in Labuschagne if we were that determined to avoid giving Burns or Harris a shot overseas anyway.

As opposed to picking someone who hasn't worked despite so many chances? Warner has set the bar so low it's borderline impossible for Burns to be worse overseas. Same goes for Harris, Renshaw, etc..

Siddle still to bat, remember the 1st test how he batted plus Lyon in helping Smith get that 1st innings ton.
You're right. We're going in with an innings lead. Bookmark it.
