Warner still needs to make runs in this Test IMHO. Both our openers have been poor but Warner surprisingly I believe has been Very Poor. He's a campaigner so we expect more from him. But please no hundred . Cannot stand his unnecessary over the top celebration it is totally embarrassing and disrespectful to the game. Kiss the helmet shake your partners hand and get on with it.

Einstein...Spare me your poisonous Barbs. He wears the gloves dufus that's why he is called the keeper. He stands behind the wickets at both ends as the bowlers approach from the other end. Being Captain also helps. Every cricket side has a Captain who is in charge of the tactics to be utilized. Does Ok with the bat also but certainly no Gilchrist. I hope this explanation will suffice but it may be a bit complicated for some.

Australia wouldn't want to have any catches dropped at short leg now that they've dropped their specialist short leg fielder.

Imagine the uproar if Warner was fielding there and dropped one.

As long as no simple ones are dropped it won't be a big deal, those quarter chance ones Bancroft grabs won't be caught by others but you can also have entire games where those ones aren't even on offer.

Most people who post in these match threads just like to be outraged over anything. Not many around here have a realistic perspective.

You pretty much need every member of your top 7 each making a double century for everyone to be happy.

If you make less than 20 runs it’s “useless prick should be ******* dropped they are not up to Test Cricket standard”

If you make 20-40 odd and get out it’s “useless prick making a start and getting out isn’t good enough”

If you make a 50 and get out it’s “useless prick throwing away their innings when the team needed more whilst their eye was in”

Heaven forbid if you make an important 90 it’s “useless prick has thrown away a century”

And even then if you manage to make a hard fought century but get out between 100-120 it’s “if your going to make a century you need to make it a big daddy hundred”

Deadset this forum is full of keyboard warriors who would struggle to hit a 100kmh arm
ball off the square.

We just need our batsman to at least make around their career average. If they all do that we will always post a competitive score in England regardless of lack of centuries.

If our openers get steamrolled again this test we are almost better off asking a bowler who can bat a bit to open the batting.

Send Nesar out there and ask him to swing for the fences. He’s just as likely to score 20 - 40. And then we have 5 legit bowlers.

Doubtful that we have an opener score more than 60 in the entire series. And that 60 will probably contain 2-3 missed chances.

Bancroft shouldn't have been selected to start with.

If we had Harris or Burns in, then with Warner struggling, we'd be in a position to drop Warner for the other one of those two.

If either Harris or Burns had been selected and performed poorly - a likely proposition - then they'd have been shifted out before Warner as well.

No mistaking that Warner is under a ton of pressure, but having 20 test centuries to your name - albeit most in friendly Australian batting conditions - helps his selection cause when those he if battling with aren't exactly setting the world on fire.

You are going on a bit. Lots of F Bombs for emphasis. I am quite happy if they bring back Smith to Captain and I think they will. Paine is no great Leader he is a steady calm hand needed after the emotionally charged events of South Africa. I do care about his batting and keeping and I am sure he does to. As well as the rest of the population that support the Australian Cricket Team. SFO

I don’t think it’ll take much from either side to have a player go on and make a big score, and that could make the difference. If Khawaja or Harris got on with it and set us up that might put England under a lot of pressure.

We need to bowl well though. Really well. Pattinson and Hazelwood need to be on from the start.
