The game is won and lost in the midfield, yet we continue to ignore this draft after draft.
Haven't we drafted Jones, McHenry, Pedlar, Cook (who in his draft year was more a forward) and even Rachele? There's plenty there that PLAYED mid, the question is whether they'll succeed their in the seniors.

He actually does, laced out a pass to Himmelberg from 50m out, off one step in the last quarter. Who then basically allowed the ball rebound off his head.
Yeah, he can kick, but he can't get the ball.

He doesn't ever get seperation from his defender so he never gets enough of the pill. He's ineffective.

Fogarty and Himmelberg were equally disastrous

Fog was chasing because he was playing from behind , trailing in then needing to chase his opponent out

Himmelberg might have had 2 possession in ruck . Most were forward . If he had Fog’s skill and talent he may have actually helped us because he got the ball enough

But in the end both were net negative

AFL Player ratings were too optimistic on Himmelbergs game and about right on Fogs

Lol he wasn’t even chasing his direct opponent, this was after the ball came to ground, it had nothing to do with trailing his direct opponent. Berg had 3 more disposals, so if he’d had it enough, Fog couldn’t have been far off

The first month of the season is when young sides are at their freshest. If we're already looking slow/in need of a rocket then you'd be concerned about what's to come.

This is the worry for mine.... The cop out will be that "Burgess pushed them to hard to early" etc... But its the overall lack of intensity that really worries me.

One thing that's getting quite overlooked is DEVELOPMENT.

Player Development.

We really have a large batch of youngish players that just seem to be going nowhere.
This is what player development looks like.

A bunch of kids running out each week are gonna get spanked. What else were you expecting?

Put MORE kids in, we're only going to look worse.

Until we can get 40+ games into those players we genuinely think are the future of the club, we're gonna look horrendous.

You haven’t watched closely enough

Multiple times ground balls came in to areas 10-25M out and his opponent is leading him in and then rebound out

Woosh

It isn’t isolated either

This Club is so far from Finals footy its not funny.

2025 at the earliest and thats being conservative.
I just can't see a light at the end of the tunnel. It's plainly obvious that the recruiters are terrible and the coaches aren't up to it but there are no signs that any of this will change. At least back in 2019 with the Pyke/Burton regime, the club was aware it had issues. Right now the club is in complete denial. They still worship Ogilvie and Nicks just got an extension. We will have years of pain to endure, just to get to a second rebuild.

Sad call. Accurate call. Its where we are at.

Hopefully in our second rebuild, we get it right.

Sydney played kids/young players like Wicks, Warner, Goulden, Campbell, Hayward, Florent, Blakey, McDonald and didn't look like garbage?

It’s going to be hard but you need to know where you’re at so you can focus on developing players
Perhaps it will be more important to manage the expectations of the fans! I’d be saying that although we’d never deliberately drop a game, we make no apologies that we have to try and fast track the development of these kids. That means exposure to the highest level and coming against slexperienced teams. But saying we will review the match and learn from it is cheap!

As someone said also need senior players to play well to help them

Can’t just expose them all with no help or end up with plenty getting spat out of system
