Draft Review 2016 - Revisiting the 2016 AFL Draft

Still pinching ourselves that we traded out of this draft, had 2 of the final 3 selections, and Harry Morrison and Mitch Lewis have had career best seasons and look long-term players capable of playing 150+ games.

A lot of you wouldn't be able to pick Morrison out of a police line up, but he's been great this year. Consistent, hard working and a real team-first player.

Probably easier to rank this draft in tiers, could throw a blanket over a few:

Stewart
McCluggage
Taranto
Bolton

Tier 2:

English
R. Marshall
Darcy
Ryan
Ridley

Tier 3:
Daicos
Lewis
Brodie
Draper
Henry
Larkey

Tier 4:
McGrath
Cox
Parfitt
Florent
Logue
Berry
Powell-Pepper
McInerney
Lipinski

This is the first year that Daicos, Lewis, Brodie and Draper (and it's iffy for him) have been better than McGrath, and Larkey hasn't been better at all. McGrath has to be tier 2 for me.

Cox massively underrated, best defender in the best defensive team

Absolutely. His numbers and defensive stats this year should really have him right in the AA conversation but ofc he's getting no love externally. Comfortably our best defender at the moment, and only Hayden Young even comes close.

Come he has half the votes of Oliver, Miller and Petracca. They don’t have games where they don’t impact. Talent wise he is amazing but he can light it up for a half and hardly touch it.

They not saying he's better but asking if he's in same level.

Also dubbed the most exciting player in the game (?) Which is a fair question

I'd have Daicos in the 2nd tier. Turning into a bloody good player.

Liam Baker was available in this draft too. Didn't get picked until the following year's rookie draft.

Bizarre post. Lots of good players get picked up well after their draft year. They are only discussed in the year they were drafted - not the ones they weren’t drafted in.

It would be like discussing Tom Stewart in the 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012 re-do thread.

Any reason to bring a random Richmond player into an irrelevant discussion I guess.
