The carrying on by the commentators during that Bobby Hill tackle was embarrassing. I thought it was a clear trip.
I've watched it 30 times and it was a clear trip every time

Great chase by Bobby but mistimed it by a microsecond, unlucky

Epic finish that should be celebrated

Sure kingy umpires should make decision because of the “spirt of the game” 🙄 can’t think of anyone who made himself look more moronic than David King tonight.

On a night where the Coalition got wiped out and Dutton lost his own seat, isn't it funny that the biggest meltdown by a Fox talking head wasn't one of the right-wing gobshite politcal commentators, but David King having a hissy fit over the umpires.

Yeah Darcy Moore looked after him…. I’m backing Ollie will bang 5 against the roos when we play them and that will guarantee him a spot for the next 2 years. As for Neale attending 28 ruck contests boy oh boy ….

Again, we won a game by 3 points and you’re advocating that the coach should ‘wake up’ and drop a player directly responsible for kicking two goals and giving away another, against the team leading the comp.

I suspect his 78 goals across two seasons by the age of 22 probably didn’t just come in one game against North.

Yeah we did but you guys came hard at the end.
Crisp unlucky not to kick the goal and hill unlucky too.
Crisp just missed, not luck, Hill proven to have legged, no bad luck there.

Cats won it fair and square

Fair enough.
Imo we were lucky to get away with it. Fantastic to get 3 goals up but disappointing to let you guys back in at the end.
Either way, cracking game.

And he spoke facts as well.
Geelong were a minnow club until they decided not to be, Geelong used to be “Sleepy Hollow”

Western Bulldogs revel in being that, it’s their identity and they wear it on their sleeve.
They want to be the “underdog” and fighting against the establishment and big clubs, you can’t whinge when you get treated as a minnow when you pride yourself on being one

No Bulldogs are whinging.

Before the umpire blew whistle I knew it was legged

When watching it I initially thought he'd been called for a push in the back (which I absolutely hate). On the replay it's a bit harsh, but I think fair enough.

The touched goal review was a bit more fortunate, but worth noting that on the broadcast another umpire (I think the boundary) had gone up to the goal umpire and said he thought it was touched, which I think influenced the soft call of touched and to me (obviously biased) I think it was probably correct. Still, have to acknowledge that the soft call could have easily been a goal and that would have made it a very different game.

I love this rivalry that we have with the Pies, it has to be one of the most underrated rivalries of the 2000s. How many finals, how many huge games at the MCG, how many absolute epics, how many premierships where one team has had to go through the other to win it? I've lost count. And yet there is absolutely none of the BS associated with our rivalries with Hawthorn and Richmond, just consistently ferocious contests between (at a guess) the two most consistently good teams of the past 20 years.

I was mainly watching the election last night until the last quarter, but thought Mullin and Bowes were very important from our lesser lights.

Besides which, Danger copped a pretty harsh below-the-knees earlier in the game, so in the long run it evens out.
Thats been an absolute lottery this year, in the ANZAC day game there were three different rulings about cvontact below the knees. Josh Daicos got done for tripping when he knelt to pick up a ball and a big Bomber accidentally ran into him with his knees. The next time it happened we got a free for too high, and the next one was let go, baffling.

Crisp took way over 30 seconds to start his approach anyway. Can't see anything in the rule book which says he's allowed more just because the siren has gone.

Well the ump can't call play on, so I guess it's either a given the kicker taking the shot gets the extra time (as is deemed reasonable by the ump) or the ump puts the two hands to signal the end of the game. Dunno.

Yeah an anomaly for sure. But there's Kingy's spirit of the game right there.

I guess I just will take the points and move on. If I were the Pies I'd be more annoyed at being in yet another game where it was way closer than it should have been. We're certainly not in Adelaide v Fitzroy '91 territory here.

David King has never forgiven GFC for proving him to be a buffoon of a commentator in 2011 when he declared Cats were no chance to win a premiership.

It wasn’t asif the majority of people were there to see Geelong.

Bulldogs would get a similar crowd against Collingwood at the G.

Flog comment from a flog player at a club full of flogs.

Geelong got nearly 90k at the G two weeks prior as the “Home” team and it didn’t feature a Pies, Blues, Dons, Tigers

You can’t claim Collingwood is the only reason there are big crowds, sure they are a big part of it but other clubs can have big crowds too.

I'm trying not to go over the top about King's (and apparently Dunstall's) umpire criticism from Saturday night. It's weird, I vividly remember the same pair losing their minds with the "Geelong have got an extra three men playing for them" routine in an early season win against Carlton last year, I guess I remember it because while King can often lose the plot, Dunstall has always seemed a lot more measured to me.

Like Saturday night, that was a case of a few line-ball (not even categorically incorrect) calls going our way. But if they had been blatantly incorrect, just say that and move on- it happens.

Instead they obsess over this stuff which they should dedicate less than 5% of their commentary to (like they're BigFooty posters in a game day thread). And then I have no doubt they'll react in horror when the next umpire gets bottled at a game and will drone on and on about how everyone has a responsibility to show respect for umpires. Wake up to yourselves, you clowns.

I was at the game so didn't hear the commentary. Did King say anything about Mihocek's non-mark in the dying minutes that resulted in a goal? Blicavs got his hands to the ball first and pushed it forward, Mihocek then marked it so should have been play-on or ball up. Clear as daylight.

And what about Mullin's 50metre penalty that was barely 30 metres. The difference between 50 and 30 was probably a shot on goal. Did King say anything about that?

Or Dangerfield's mark with Maynard scragging him well after he'd taken possession. Should have been a 50. Did King say anything about that?

As for the Bobby Hill tackle on Mannagh. As admirable as it was for Hill to bring Mannagh down, the umpire was right there and declared it a tackle below the knees which footage confirms to be the correct decision.

It's swings and round abouts. Umpiring did NOT cost the Pies the game, IMO.
