You can’t have a system that relies on total and utter midfield dominance to compete.

You can, but the midfield better be made up of Ricciuto, Judd and Voss with Paul Kelly and Stevo as the rotations lol

And yesterday it was clearly evident that the team did not.

They were tentative from the get go.

They Looked intimidated and full of false bravado trying to convince themselves of a thing they all believed the opposite of before they ran out.

Players that can do practically everything above our players.

One of the problems is that we give up a stack of high quality I50s into a poor defense.
Currently.
Logue - cant really defend atm, ok intercept and user.
Pink - ok aerial defender, ok intercept, bad user
Lmac - can defend in air / not on ground, good intercept for size, bad user
Daniel - cant defend at all, cant intercept, good to great user
Colby - cant defend, great user (mostly) , no intercepts
Hardman - ok defend at both, ok intercept and good user

We dont have close to a complete even ok defender - we are terrible at ground ball defense and cant really rebound.
Its dire when we play even adequately just ok transition teams.
Clarkson at hawthorn had elite interceptors with a lot of third up plays and athletes who could push back if playing in front etc and elite users from d50. We are nowhere near that. We need a new defensive system.

FWIW we need to beat the Dogs by 15 points to get our percentage back above 80.

That to me was going to prove whether we genuinely have improved or not.
I expect it’s going to dive even further.

While we were recruiting a garden gnome that cant kick over a jam tin as our chief distributor, the dogs were bolstering an already best in the league midfield with another 2 way runner that lives getting his hands dirty...

Improvement starts with the list and bringing in the right recruits.

Are we a better team with Kennedy in the centre square with Parker and LDU with Sheezel playing QB or what we have now?

I would love a quality list manager to run his eyes over our list and make some hard calls...

We're trying to find opponents for Daniels now as he can't defend. Opposition are just putting opponents on him who will expose that.
It has been a failed move. And a costly one in terms of draft capital.

Darling should have had a rest. Maley doing a great job in the twos.
Backline was in all sorts without any mid pressure.
George should have been rested for Wilphil, has had a poor month.
Watched Cooper in the seconds and he is looking good at HB. I wonder if they are grooming him as a Daniel replacement.
Curtis more interested in fighting.
Zhurhaar doesn't have the tank to go with those lightning quick half-backs.
Boots were all wrong, slipping over cost us at least 6 goals.

Pretty damning when you consider the conventional wisdom that premierships are built on the back of a good defence I wonder where we’d be at if we’d spent the past 5 seasons recruiting the best available defenders?

We need to accept those performances are "just part of the process" and maybe we can wait for another 5 years on the bottom.

Lol but seriously we are becoming irrelevant in the comp. If fans or anyone thinks last weeks lost was bad but ok, not too much worry, that's fine, then what is the point. If the team we support can shut off and provide little to no effort at any time, then success is never entrenched, It's fleeting!
