Breaking news: Port Adelaide will be again leading leading the way and breaking new ground with the number of co-captains.

Reports that the membership are uneasy with Tom Jonas and Ollie Wines will be addressed through the appointment of a third co-captain, Tom Rockliff.

Reports from Alberton confirm that three heads are better than one. The issue yet to be reconciled is how Port Adelaide will divide the number one by three.

Each to wear 0.333 on their guernseys.

Or maybe every club hasn't cottoned on to it yet and they're all sticking by 150 year old traditions for no real reason other than just because.

In modern AFL football where strategy and professionalism lurch forward sometimes unexpectedly, being a late adopter means being left behind.

Pointing to the success stories is a counter to the frankly dumb argument that keeps getting wheeled out here where people are demanding an overwhelming argument that it's a better option before they'll entertain the idea.

It's a relatively uncommon idea for which there is insufficient data to show any sort of trend, and even if there was, we're a unique group with a unique leadership skills and needs.

Overwhelming? I’d settle for just whelming. It’s not dumb to ask what the benefits are over and above the C/VC arrangement, and if you can’t offer any then yes the change is questionable and it’ll be added to the mountain of questionable decisions this club has made over the last few years.

There's no reason why we can't have the captain wear number 1 in 2019. The other captain might wear 42 or 16 though.

In 2004, our captain wore 16. Sure, our club captain wore number 1, but Tredrea was every bit a fully fledged captain of this football club for 98 of the 100 quarters of football we played in that season.

We got on just fine.

Tredders was acting captain while Matty was absent. Primus was Club captain and held #1 even if not on the field. Like saying if you have a spell on the bench, someone else putts on the #1 until the skipper returns off the bench!

But unanimous.

I understood the unanimous bit to be about the idea of co-captains.

They would have voted on preferred captain first, votes come out tied, they then propose co-captains, errybody say yeah.

Lol and then they all broke out into choreographed dance to celebrate the two factions coming together and settling their differences for the common good.

Marge = KT
Homer = Kern

The exact reason you have a single leader, if there is ever a 'democratic tie', there is someone to break the impasse.

If this (very unlikely) scenario was the case, the argument for a single captain becomes logically stronger.

That Rockliff video on the website is just 30 seconds of him saying that he’s apparently not fussed either way, with no reasons as to why he’s so indifferent, just some dull platitude about the club doing what’s best for the club.

Just another strike of the tenderiser. I’d post the it’s happening gif but technically it would be inaccurate. It’s already happened.

That means the decision should go into Extra Time so as we have a result. After all, we seem to be increasingly modelling this league on American sports.

Wines shoulder was actually injured in the brawl between him and Jonas for sole rights to the number 1 guernsey.

Coaching staff intervened at this point but there was still no clear winner.

Co-captains is the solution opted for until Wines recovers and a second battle can take place.

The thing that really annoys me is that we have people at the top of the pile who keep on spouting war cries like 'We Are Port Adelaide' when it suits them. They then consider throwing the Port Adelaide traditions such as, one Captain wearing the no1 guernsey out the window. What is the point of being Port Adelaide if Port Adelaide is the same as every other club in the competition?

As numerous posters have put, things might not be so bad if someone in authority would come out and say what the Club's intentions are and why co Captains is linked to on field success. Koch and Thomas have not handled this well, and the delay in naming a Captain(s) is simply allowing journos to run with divisive innuendo.

From where I sit the things that make us different from the rest are slowly evaporating and all that is left is empty talk from a bunch of imports.
