Chad Warner
When the Sydney Swans swept up Chad Warner with pick 39 at the 2019 AFL Draft, they secured a youngster with an insatiable appetite for the contest. Warner attacks the ball and opponents with aggression and is relishing calling midfield bulls Josh Kennedy and Luke Parker his teammates at the Swans. Warner impressed for Western Australia in the 2019 AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 18.2 touches (50 per cent contested), 3.2 clearances and 6.8 tackles per game. He also tallied an average of 27.1 disposals, 6.4 clearances and 7.4 tackles per match at Colts level for East Fremantle in 2019. He earned his AFL debut against Richmond in Round 6 of the 2020 season, recording eight disposals and two tackles.

I’m on the fence about we saw from him yesterday - at his best he’s a free wheeling run and gun midfielder who can rip games apart and he’s been pretty consistent in his application over the past two years imo. Like coming into yesterday he’d already kicked 6 goals for the year so he’s been in attacking form. We want him being audacious and testing the opposition. But the times he bombs long with almost no direction and the ball ends up either rushed behind, trickling out of bounds or intercepted is getting too much. Need him to take better care of the ball, which he does often so maybe it’s just an off day. But these off days happen and he does seem to get a bit down on himself and, to me, it seems to induce almost trying too hard where he makes even more errors. To a degree we’re gonna have to take the good with the bad because he plays in a risk taking manner.

What I did like was that another to start the final quarter, that’s the kind of stuff when you’re having a down game that you can focus on and bring yourself back. I guess it was an almost day overall.

I'm happy for him to keep taking in every player every chance he gets. Yea he's going and does get caught from time to time but he breaks a hell of alot more tackles than he gets caught in.

It's natural uber aggressive game. We need to encourage that from players. It's what brings out the best in them.

Liz made a horrible turnover but I don't want him to lose his creativity and dare. Sometimes you just have to live with it

Hopefully with Adams and maybe Parker coming back in to help in the guts he can stand off a bit and get the space he needs. I don't mind him taking on players but he needs to develop a Dusty Martin fend to do it consistently.

Agreed, as long as the ledger is in our favour at the end of the game you can accept a few chances being burned as long as the chances he generates turn into goals more often than turn overs. It's all part of playing an aggressive attacking style.

Totally agree with this. I'd rather he get caught here and there, but still have the confidence to take the game on and do his natural thing.

Same with Liz. I noticed after Richmond scored from his mistake, all the defenders went up to Liz to make him feel good. Let the players do what's natural.

warner, gulden, blakey, mcinerney, heeney, florent (i know some would argue), campbell (give him time), even papley, to a point ... all these playmakers must be allowed to take any chance to create, it is the dna of this team, it's how we will overrun teams

I thought he helped out defensively against the tiges... had a few important touches helping out in defence.

Overall his 2024 has been improved defensively imo
